Dark Horse Series: DE Demontre Moore

In this series I will spotlight a few under the radar or long shot players on the roster. Be it to make the team, start or contribute.

Last Chance

"I look at it as my last chance," Moore said. "Nothing's promised in the game we play. You can be there today and see you later tomorrow. You've got to take every snap, every rep, every practice like this is your last opportunity to prove yourself."

Big difference from the younger, bad attitude, showboat , sack dancing headache Demontre Moore. His career looked promising after his really good sophomore year with the Giants in 2014 where he posted 32 tackles and 5.5 sacks. The following year however he started to become a nutcase in the Giants locker room and ended up getting pushed off the roster. Having played with 2 teams that year he posted 27 tackles and 4 sacks.

Lost but found

2016 he found himself looking for a team until Pete Carrol came calling. Pete Carroll praised him, telling reporters that "I've really liked him. He just jumped right off the film, his effort, his toughness." Ended up finishing the year with Seattle and hitting free agency.

That’s where Dallas quietly came in to sign him to a modest 1 year deal. Seen above Moore didn’t take this chance lightly as he realize he had to make some changes because he doesn’t have many chances left.

Moore doesn’t lack size or talent however. He is a 6’5 250+ lb pass rusher. His 10 career sacks SADLY leads all of our DEs on the roster and that’s mostly as a rotation player. Coming out Moore didn’t post the fastest numbers specifically in the 40. However he was solid in the 3 cone and 20 yard shuttle which are best at measuring D Lineman. His pro day numbers if put into the combine players this year would rank top 5 (4.34) in the 20 yard shuttle and top 5 (6.95) in the 3 cone.

ROD

This is probably Moore’s best situation to land in to revive his career due to 1 man. Rod Marinelli. The guy just gets the best out of "who the heck is that" players. His track record in Dallas for JAG type players is very impressive

George Selvie: 7 sacks career high

Benson Mayowa: 6 sacks career high

Jermey Mincey: 6 sacks

Cowboy favorite Jason Hatcher while not a JAG also had a career year under him with 11 sacks

And right now he is in the midst of developing a monster in David Irving.

You want to take a step up as a D lineman come get coached by Rod Marinelli. Now that doesn’t mean he is going to do anything. But the potential is there if his head is on straight. Moore walks into the RDE position that is going to be battle tested. Aside from Taco, there really are no guarantees in playing time right now. Dallas seems to make one of these type signing every year (see above Selvie, Mincey, Mayowa). Most of the time we have little to no expectations and they surprise. Moore could add his name to that list if he wants to. He just has to want to.
