Cowboys set to interview Dom Capers
Wow, now this is some good news. The Cowboys are set to interview Dom Capers for an unspecified coaching position on the defense.
According to a source, Dom Capers is headed to Dallas to interview for a spot on Phillips' staff, possibly as early as today.
[snip]
His possible position in Dallas has not been determined. He could round out the Cowboys' staff as the linebackers coach or be hired as a defensive overseer.
Dom Capers knows more about the 3-4 defense than almost anybody in the league. This would put two recognized gurus of the 3-4 defense on our staff, Wade Phillips and Dom Capers. If this happens, and with the addition of Hudson Houck, the Cowboys coaching staff may actually be better this year. Thanks Tuna for raiding our staff and firing Miami's.
Hat tip to Deke for posting the news in this diary.

Thinking ahead
I guess if the Cowboys hire Capers, the cynical side may say if Wade doesn't make it past another year and is let go while Garret is elevated to HC, you have a ready-made defensive coordinator on the staff who's well-versed in the 3-4. After all, Brian Stewart is Wade's guy, so no telling if he would survive that kind of purge. In addition, Garrett wanted Capers to go with him to Baltimore if he would have taken that job.
I don't know about any of this, just idle speculation on my part.
I think that's pretty close to the truth, Grizz
every move this offseason
has been designed to show Wade just how expendable he is
I hope
we're good next year and don't have to worry about Wade being fired.

Very nice
That's a lot of defensive experience if he signs.
He can throw in some zone blitzing stuff just to add a new wrinkle.
I agree this coaching staff is better than the one we had 2 years ago.
not only are these great hires, but
as DMN Blog reports , all of these new assistant coaches have expreience working with Garrett which makes the transition of Garrett becoming the new HC next season very smooth.
Sherman becomes OC, Capers becomes DC and Campo becomes assistnat HC. No matter how the Cowboys fare next season, if Garrett isn't the HC in 2009, I'll be shocked.
Oh dare I hope!!
Please, please, let this interview go well and let Capers sign on the dotted line!
I am starting to feel really good about this team again. But I am not getting any hopes up until we sign a few of our free agents and until after the draft.
Dom is good
and he should be DCor right now, Stewart should be fired or demoted.
