NFLs 50 Best

The often (rightly) criticized Pete Prisco has written a "hasn't mini-camp started yet" article listing his opinion of the NFLs current top 50 players.  The only Cowboys on the list is, you guessed it, TO at number 15.

15. Terrell Owens, WR, Cowboys: Despite his off-field issues, he's still among the top offensive threats in the game. I'd take him on my offense any day of the week.

I don't think Mr. Prisco has seen all of these players play much, but neither have I - then again I don't get paid to write about this stuff.  From a Cowboys perspective I would slide Anthony Henry in around 40.

When did safeties become better players than cornerbacks?  Four safeties in the top 50 players, none of which are Roy Williams, and one corner, hmm.  Sure, I can see Troy Polamalu, but Shawn Taylor, Ed Reed (who had a horrible year last year *fantasy team testimonial), and Adrian Wilson.

Prisco is an idiot
Roy Williams and Jason Witten definitely are among the top 50 players in the league, no question. After this year, I see Newman and Ware in that category as well.

Um
No, they're not. They are both fine, fine players. But top 50? Please.

This is not a knock on them. There are 32 teams with 53 active players each. That's 1,696 active players. Roy Williams is not even a top 5 safety, nor is Witten a top 5 TE. You may think they are, and that's fine. You're a Cowobys fan! But neither of those guys are top 50 in my book, nor Prisco's.

Oh, and I agree
Prisco's list is flawed, as all top 50 lists are. Shawn Talor has no business being ranked above Bob Sanders or Roy Williams.

yes they are
despite what you might think, Witten is the third best TE in the league hands down, only behind Gonzalez and Gates and Williams is by far and away the best SS in the league. Check out the video Grizz posted, its so obvious.

Again Terry
It's totally cool that you think they are that good. I think it's fair to state most do not agree with you. Witten is not behind Gonzalez and Gates. Even if he was, that still does not necessarly qualify him for top 50. Same with Williams. A highlight video does not show his entire game. Williams is not a better safety than Ed Reed, Polamolu, or even Indy's Bob Sanders.

whatever Big Blue
I know he's the best, much better than Polamolu, Reed and especially Sanders, thats all that matters. He'll be in the HOF someday unlike those overrated safeties you mentioned.

I'm thinking...
Roy Williams and T.O...that's it for me....the more wins we get this year, the more 'boys will end up on that list...

i'm guessing one cowboy who won't be on that list tho..(hint...names starts with mike and ends with vanderjagt)...

LOL
My annoyance with Vandy aside, I don't think he's a top 50 player. I emphasis player because the position the player plays in second the impact he has on the game. An argument can be made for Vinatieri, and I would make that argument even if he still kicked for NE. He might be the best kicker ever, but he's also a very good player in terms of conditioning, kicking off, and making big FGs.

Some players that are some top 50 players I can think of (in no particular order, honestly): Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Shaun Alexander, Troy Polamalu, Dwight Freeney, T.O., Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Chad Johnson, Carson Palmer, Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez, Champ Bailey, Orlando Pace, Walter Jones, Tiki Barber, Santana Moss, Hines Ward, Richard Seymour, Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber, Adam Vinatieri, Donovan McNabb, Steve Smith, Brett Favre, Willie Anderson, Brian Dawkins.

McNabb and Dawkins...
are overrated in my book.

Prisco is a moron
He has the worst articles, filled with inaccuracies and baffling personal opinions. I don't know why they keep him, other than to stir up readers.

CBS Sportsline
also has the four top-ranked kickers as Jeff Wilkens, Jay Feely, Rian Lindell and Todd Peterson. Enough said.
