Thinking about the 53-man roster

I was thinking about the roster tonight, so I decided to put some names and numbers down on paper and see how it turns out. Here is the roster I would put together. Guys in bold are who I consider locks; guys in italics are the bubble players who make it.

QB
Drew Bledsoe, Tony Romo

RB
Julius Jones, Marion Barber, Tyson Thompson

WR
Terrell Owens, Terry Glenn, Patrick Crayton,
Sam Hurd, Jamaica Rector, Skyler Green (* see below)

OL
Flozell Adams, Kyle Kosier, Andre Gurode, Marco Rivera, Marc Colombo, Al Johnson, Cory Procter, Rob Petitti,
Pat McQuistan

TE
Jason Witten, Anthony Fasano, Ryan Hannam,
Lousaka Polite, Tony Curtis

DE
Chris Canty, Marcus Spears, Jay Ratliff, Jason Hatcher

NT
Jason Ferguson, Thomas Johnson

OLB
DeMarcus Ware, Greg Ellis, Kevin Burnett, Al Singleton,
Rocky Boiman

ILB
Bradie James, Akin Ayodele, Bobby Carpenter,
Ryan Fowler

CB
Terence Newman, Anthony Henry, Aaron Glenn, Jacques Reeves,
Nate Jones

S
Roy Williams, Keith Davis, Pat Watkins,
Abram Elam

K
Mike Vanderjagt, Shaun Suisham

P
Mat McBriar

LS
L.P. Ladouceur

My practice squad would look like this (if we can get them all through and without thinking of any free agents available for the squad who are still out there).

PS
Stanley, Hoyte, Batiste, L. Williams, Baker, Glymph, Austin, Bowen

* The one area I'm still not settled on is cutting Fabini to keep Green. In truth, I'm probably 50-50 on this right now. I think Green's in serious trouble, and if he doesn't produce this week, he could be history and they might keep Fabini instead. Another possibility is to cut Green and Fabini, and keep Oliver Hoyte.

OK, fire away. Let's hear your latest roster based on last night's game.

I'd keep Fabini over McQuistan

And stop progress?
I think McQ is too high on Parcell's hope list. I agree, however, that Fabini might be kept instead of  someone else.

Had been a little iffy on McQ!
I had been keeping a close eye on McQ the last few weeks.  BP loves this guys raw ability.  Man he is an incredible steal in the draft for us.  He has made so much progress in little time.  This guy has tons of athletic ability and great feet for someone his size.  He is already playing equal to Fabini.  BP will ALWAYS chose a young player over a vet, when the young player is nearly at the same level.  McQ is DEFINITELY made this team.  There is no doubt about that one in my opinion.  He is playing better every week.

McQuistan
is making this team. There is no way to sneak him on the practice squad after everyone has seen him play against first teamers in the preseason games.

Remember last year, Bill never wanted to talk about Tyson Thompson in hs press conferences, thats was a player he wanted to sneak on the practice squad, but the media kept asking about him and the way he stood out in the last preseason game, Bill had no choice to keep him on the 53 man roster.

Maybe we could cut TO and put Jennifer in there?
She seems to catch passes no one else even hears/sees.

Bubble Players!
In my opinion, I think the following bubble players have made the team already:

Pat McQuistian - a stud in the making.
Sam Hurd - an incredible undrafted talent at WR.
Jamiaca Rector - lighting quick good hands WR.
Lousaka Polite - versatile intelligent RB/TE.
Tony Curtis - good depth TE and ST player.
Ryan Fowler - Only backup to James and ST stud.
Abram Elam - versatile ball-hawking Safety.

Still on the Bubble to me:

Skyler Green
Rocky Boiman
Nate Jones

I think all three have a good chance of making the team, but there is a couple of wheels in motion that could change that.

STAY TUNED!

On the same page
The only difference I'd make is Green, I dont think he'll make the team. I cant see Bill only going into the season with only two proven wideouts in Glenn and T.O, Crayton still coming off another injury so that leaves us with rookies,Rector and Hurd! I believe Bill might Keep Copper as the fourth wideout as he has experience in the league and can be the gunner on play special teams. The rest,I'm on the same page.

Suisham
Its sick that we have to keep someone to kick off...
There are only 40 something gameday active players and we are going to take up a backup player..

Is there anyway we could make a backup, any backup the 3rd string QB as a loophole to get an extra active player??

Glymph can't go on the ps
I don't think Glymph can go on the practice squad. He has been on the active roster for the Falcons and played in a few games

Coach said today
the new rule is three years remains eligible. I did some research on this and have posted it to the diary section. Per NFL.com Glymph was credited with 3 games in 2004 and 3 games in 2005. Assuming these are the only games he was on the 45-man roster he now has one more year (or 2 games) of eligibility left for practice squad. Of course on the practice squad he remains a free agent eligible for signing from any NFL team.
