MB3 next on the list?
Is it Marion the Barbarian's time now?
Stephen Jones was talking to a few reporters outside the locker room about the Cowboys' recent history of taking care of guys who have proven themselves as premier players. He was listing off examples when Marion "The Barbarian" Barber walked past."Speaking of which," Jones said with a big smile.
The Cowboys certainly plan to keep Barber at Valley Ranch for a long time, but Jones said there isn't an urgency to get that deal done. Barber is a restricted free agent, and the Cowboys would rather not negotiate with players down the stretch of the season."If I were going to speculate," Jones said, "I would guess that there probably wouldn't be any more deals done until after the season."
The Cowboys have been an organization of great backs almost as much as it has been an organization of great QB's. Its time to lock up the Cowboys next great back.

This will get done
I have no doubt that Marion's deal will get done. The main reason is that he's restricted, and no team is going to give up a 1st + whatever round pick to sign Barber to terms that we're unwilling to match. Won't happen. The other reason is that Dallas can continue to take a wait and see approach with him since JuJo probably won't be back, minimize losses in case he should get hurt (knock on wood), and avoid completely alienating JuJo in the process. It just keeps our options open for longer when there isn't much need to jump now.

dont understimate
the impact of a poison pill.
a team can add a bonus of $10mm if he plays over 4 games in texas....

Good point
I think it's going to be the draft pick compensation that keeps teams away - the last players I remember being exchanged for 1st round picks were Galloway (to Dallas) and Keyshawn (to Tampa) trades. It's probably happened more frequently than that, but it's pretty rare. This is one area where I have 100% confidence in management to get it done. But we should look out for the poison pill and get it done before that.

Poison Pill...
Still only applies if a team is willing to sacrifice picks for Barber...I have no doubt the Cowboys will tender him at the 1/3 round level, and if someone wants to give a 1st and 3rd for Barber, I see no problems with that.

Before you get to the poison pill
you have got (as another team) to convince the player that he wants to leave his present team. It is not all about money. If MB3 believes he will make more money and get more fame by signing elsewhere he may do that. If he is convinced that the Cowboys want him to be the featured back or that he is better off in a platoon system to extend his years they he will not be a candidate for the poison pill. Additionally the player would have to be somewhat angry with his current team for low-balling him before he burned his bridges by signing a poison pill offer. Finally there are only a couple of teams that have used this device and my sense is that most do not want to touch it because of the reverse effect. The Steelers and the Patriots have signed restricted free agents since this was first used and both refused to use it.

yeah but
I can't imagine the Boys without Barber. He is the spark plug, the heart and the hammer. I know a first round pick is awesome, but our team needs to win now, and Barber is a huge part of that.
Plus, I just bought a Barber jersey!!!

First....
You two stop fighting it gets us nowhere. And this article is about when marion will be re-signed. I say soon enough, I mean julius is gone, not enough production. And unless he starts having a crazy good season, he's gone. Do you think they would let a stud like MBIII go, pleaseeeee. I'm sure they will replace JJ, and hey don't forget about Tyson Thompson. But right now it's mid-season, and plenty of ass's to kick and names to take, starting with those punk ass eagles. How bout them COWBOYS!!!
