Dallas Cowboys feast on New York Jets, 34-3

The expected happened at Texas Stadium on Thanksgiving Day, the Dallas Cowboys crushed the New York Jets 34-3. The Cowboys defense so dominated the game that it was never in doubt who would win, leading to a methodical beat-down of the Jets that was good for the Cowboys but not very exciting TV. The Cowboys were so thoroughly in control of the game by halftime that there was no thought of a Jets comeback. It was enough to make me battle a turkey coma throughout the game.

Tony Romo was efficient in the win and the Cowboys finally turned in an effective running game. Julius Jones had 64 yards and Marion Barber closed it out finishing with 103 yards and a TD.

But it was the defense who owned the game. Greg Ellis had a few sacks, the secondary was very good in coverage, and Terence Newman made a big-time play by picking off the ball and returning it for a TD. The Jets couldn’t rush the ball and they couldn’t throw it; the Dallas defense was that dominant on the day.

The special teams also bottled up the Jets return game on kicks and punts leaving the Jets befuddled in all three phases of the game.

The Cowboys are 10-1 for the first time and are ready for the showdown next week with the 10-1 Green Bay Packers. This could be the game of the year in the NFC regular season and should go a long way towards determining home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. I can't wait.

Recap here, boxscore here.

This is an open thread for Cowboys victory chat and for the Colts/Falcons game tonight, if you can watch it.

Grizz, this is definitely the NFC game of the year, no question about it.

The winner has the inside track to go to the SB.

I'm happy for T-New

2 INT's in two games and a TD.

How about...

Canty, Ware, T-New and Ellis all pigging out on pie after the game? Those dudes did look hungry.

I don't know

I wondered that, too. Maybe he thought he gets too much pub, let the defense get some love. Or maybe he hates Simms, too.

As games go

what a complete yawner, there was no doubt about the result of the Jets/cowboy game from the opening kickoff.

No doubt about the Packer/Lions game after the first quarter, Lions controlled the first quarter and came away with 6 points after starting an impressive opening drive that ended in a penalty and fumbled Favre handoff, there was no doubt the Packers were going to win after Detroit wasted too many chances in the first quarter.

And now we get to watch a game that will probably be the best game of the day in the Colts/Falcons, who would of thought that at the start of the season. The only downer for those who are able to watch it, Bryant Gumbel is the play by play guy. WHY is this guy still doing play by play for the NFL network, he is thee worst in the business.

by Deke on Nov 22, 2007 7:27 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, it's a shame...

... that Cris Collinsworth is paired with THE WRONG GUMBEL.

Greg Gumbel is so much better than brother Bryant.

And Collinsworth deserves to work with a better play-by-play guy.  I enjoy Cris' insights, although looking at his quirky appearance always cracks me up -- LOL!!!

I can't stand Bryant Gumbel.

Good win

That was a solid win. Two things I liked 1. very few mistakes and 2. We ran the ball to close out the game and broke off a couple nice runs early. Next weeks game will be tough and a real good test for us to see were we are. Also nice job defense even though the jets offensive hasnt done much all year.

Someone Fire Phil Simms

He's the Bill Walton of the NFL now that Theisman's been canned. After scoring their only points and going into halftime down 21-3 he says, "The Jets have to have their heads up high." Yeah, if you're a JV team maybe. Idiot.

P.S. Go Cowboys.

Cowboys/Packers

Driver/Jennings/Jones/Robinson/Lee. Probably a lot of times it'll probably be them going 5 wide, and Favre slinging it. As long as the secondary doesn't give up the big play the Cowboys should win, easier said than done.

Nice

I put Roddy White in on my fantasy team just this morning. He just busted a big TD. Falcons up 10-0.

Deja Vu

This victory was very early '90's Cowboy-like.  It was minor business that needed to be handled and we did it. Nothing fancy, nothing stupid.  Romo had a so-so outing but our talent-level was so much higher that it didn't matter.

I'm apprehensive about the GB game.  I wouldn't be shocked if we have trouble with them.  However, I see us as SB bound regardless of the outcome.

My SB prediction:

DAL 37
NE  31

I think 102 qb rating is better than so so

Romo and the offense did what they needed to do to get the job done. When your defense dominates, you don't need to be that explosive.

Romo wasn't bad...

But he was off on too many throws.  He had the chance to be spectacular.  Maybe I'm just getting spoiled.  But you are right about his rating and completion % being better than so so.

The whole passing game looked off
I wondered during the game if it was the amount of time Garrett and Romo had to prepare for the game. They just never seemed to have a great answer for what the Jets threw at them in the passing game.

Loved the TO touchdown though. Perfect throw.

I've got many concerns leading up to the GB game

As sprite mentioned, Driver/Jennings/Jones/Robinson/Lee in that five wide set will cause our pass coverage major problems.

In game planning for this, I hope and pray that Wade comes up with something to effectively defend that.  Reverting back to the horrible pass defense in the first Giants meeting and the Redskins game last week will get us killed against Brett Favre and the Pack's arsenal of aerial weapons.

And on offense, this may be the best pair of corners we'll face in Al Harris and Charles Woodson, although C-Dub sprained his toe in today's win against the Lions and did not return.

I just want us to win and do it without sustaining any serious injuries.

This game evens things out

From the statistical thumping at the hands of the Pats.

Even though Romo looked a little off on some of his throws, The Boys still put up over 30 pts. Truly a team effort.

It's what I have come to expect this season, and next Thursday will most likely decide the NFC seeding order come playoff time.

Honestly, even though there can be upsets in any given game, I only see the GB game and the last game of the year vs the Scums, as the tough games left on the schedule. Detroit is showing it's true colors, and the Iggles are done for this year.

Roy

I wasn't able to pay as close of attention in this game as usual, but when I did see Roy, he was doing good things.  Stuffing runs, etc.  The Jest were certainly hapless on offense, but I liked the way our secondary played this game.

Did Reeves return after getting his bell rung in the endzone?
