Dallas Cowboys blow home game to the Philadelphia Eagles, 10-6
I had basically forgotten how it feels to lose a game. The Cowboys defense was fantastic all day long and deserve nothing but praise for their efforts. The Dallas offense on the other hand was abysmal, and Tony Romo played one of the worst games of his short career. Romo just couldn’t get anything going on the day. Tough break for the young gun, he’ll need to bounce back next week. These final games are going to mean something now that we’re in a tie with the Packers at 12-2. At least we own the tiebreaker.
Then there are the injuries. Andre Gurode, Chris Canty and Pat Watkins were hurt enough to where they couldn’t return to play. Romo nicked his thumb and Jason Witten had a strained neck. But the first three guys looked to have significant injuries; we’ll have to see how they are on Wednesday.
The Philadelphia Eagles deserved to win the game. They made plays when they needed to and as well as our defense played, their defense played better. They won this game fair and square.
Try not to go off the ledge over the loss even though it was very frustrating. We’re still in a good position to get things done this season. Yes, we’re bummed, but we still have a lot to look forward to, as long as Romo and the offense shake off this stinker. Also, let’s hope that Gurode, Canty and Watkins are going to be OK.
Update [2007-12-16 20:39:8 by Dave Halprin (Grizz)]: The initial feedback on the injuries, courtesy of Jerry Jones via BTB-regular kindablue in the comments.
Says the trainer indicated Romo hand suffered a contusion, and will be "fine".
He said Gurode's injury is "promising" and not as serious as originally thought, although the MRI is scheduled for tomorrow.
Watkins has "an old-fashioned" ankle sprain, and thinks it will heal with some time off.
Canty is "a concern", but hadn't heard anything specific.
Fasano showed no symptoms at halftime, but said he (Fasano) didn't "feel right". He's been tested for a concussion, and passed.
Take this with a grain of salt. Jerry's the eternal optimist, but that trail of bodies being helped off the field may not be as bad as we originally thought.
Thanks kindablue, maybe it's not as bad as we feared. We'll wait and see.

Let's Hope
This isn't the meltdown and just a letdown. The last 2 games are not Gimmes by any stretch.

Gotta win out
Can't depend on Green Bay to lose a game, they probably won't.
If we had to lose one, I'm OK with this one. I've always said (and believed) the Eagles are a great team, regardless of their record. We got beat.
But having said that, losing sucks. Man.

I am more concerned with the injuries
than the loss. Maybe it is better we have to play our best the last two games so we don't get rusty after a long layoff.

Too Comfortable
Well we will see what where made of. This team is way to comfortable going into the last quarter of the season. This loss maybe good, as long as the injuries aren't season ending. We need to get more focus and serious about our play. I hate hearing the coaching staff not concered about the poor play in the first half on top of the poor play last week. Its nice to see the defense bounce back. Oh yea and leave the girlfriend at home. We don't need a celebrity QB. Stay focus Tony we need you to bring us to Arizona.

Blogging Boys vs Bleeding Green
Just an observation, but comparing SB Nation blogs, the game thread at Bleeding Green Nation had 50 comments, and here we had well over 600 comments on two threads. Maybe it says something about Cowboy's fans or maybe the season that this blog is so active, but it definitely says something about the job Grizz does, and the community he's given the chance to grow here. Thanks.

Not only did Romo lose this game...
... but he F***ED me over completely in all three of my fantasy playoff games.
Oh well ... live by the sword, die by the sword. And real football (where we're 12-2) is more important than fake football.
I wouldn't be too upset about the loss today, though. We're cruising with a first-round bye locked up, and we never sweep Philly anyway. It had to happen. At least we have a wakeup call before the playoffs.

Sadly,
I went to war with Owens and Romo in one league. Ironically, it looks like I may win that one.
But with Romo as my starter in the other two ... not looking too good. One I lost for sure, the other, I need very few points from Minny's D + Berrian.

I HATE the Eagles, with a PASSION...
and I'm from PA originally...
That's the only reason I care about this loss...
But you know, coming off the Lions win, and GB before that, I guess I'm not surprised.
But as with everyone else, the loss isn't much; what's more important, are the injuries!
Henry, Newman and Crayton have been nursing injuries all year, as you know; and Ellis is the only one who seems to have come back.
But the Injury concerns:
Romo was so bad today, was it his thumb? Or Jessica get inside his head, like Carrie Underwood did last year??
Gurode? Wow, that didn't look good!
Canty: taken out by his own man, I had that crap!
Watkins: probably a high ankle sprain, and looked bad too!
Injuries, Injuries, Injuries....forget the loss...
Still HATE the Eagles!
See how smug Reid was, like he just won the SB or something!
What a bunch of punks!
Bottomline, Dallas LOST today, the Eagles did NOT "win"!

Give credit to the eagles
they played a good mistake free game, we did not. Our defense played great today. Romo was horrible on offense and for a game where we were down only four, we got away from the run altogether to early. I dont want to hear about Romo's thumb injury, thats an excuse. He didn't have a probem hitting Crayton in stride forty yards down the field. He started out horrible and stayed that way all game. This isn't the way you want to go down the stretch heading to the playoffs. Last week was another subpar performance, we were lucky to win that game, this week, it caught up with us. With a short week and alot of injuries, things better get turned around in a hurry.

Can't put it all on Romo
Yes, some... but not all.
Some running plays would've kept the defense honest.
Cory Procter sucked and couldn't even hold half of Andre Gurode's jock.
I'm still perplexed as to why we entirely abandoned the run in the whole 4th qtr down by just 4 pts with a QB clearly bothered by a thumb injury and a backup C who stunk to high heck...

indicated he was injured during the game. If that's the case, he doesn't get a free pass for all those wild passes in the first quarter.

The Boys injury bug hit hard
We still almost won the game. I'm worried about Romo's thumb and Gurode's knee. Those are major problems down the road.
The other injuries, the team could over come.
But we do need to win out to claim home field throughout. Although just having that 1st round buy locked up feels good.

Hey Jason
This is the game where you tell your offensive line this game is yours to win and then run the ball. With tony's thumb and the defense playing well, play some field position and get your line run blocking. Then run some play action off it on key second and third downs to pick up first downs. This game was to close to throw it around the way we did with tony not 100%. This is his first really bad game. Hopefully we wont see anymore like this the rest of the way.

Two numbers: 36 and 13. Too big a disparity...
I know that we normally pass more than we run.
However, you would've thought that we were down by more than one possession the way we basically abandoned the run for the entire 4th qtr (Red Ball maybe called one running play in the final 10+ minutes of the game).
I was with some buddies of mine at a sports bar, and I kept asking them "why does our offense act like we're down by 17 pts with practically an eternity to go? Call some running plays!"
At the time, we were down by only 4 points. JUST FOUR FREAKIN' POINTS.
To me, it was like we panicked when we really didn't need to.
The last three games, we've played rather inconsistent.
Win over GB: Great first half (both O and D played well), poor 2nd half (D played worse for last 2 qtrs, O came through when needed to).
Win over Det: Poor first half (Defense), better 2nd half (except Defense).
Loss vs Philly: D played better throughout except for like 2 drives, but O was atrocious (esp. OC-Garrett and QB-Romo).
I know it's just our 2nd loss, and like Grizz... I don't know how it feels this year 'cuz it's been awhile since the "L" to New England... but I'd like to see some CONSISTENCY on both sides of the freakin' ball!!!
And I'll be praying that Gurode and Canty did not suffer season-ending injuries...

I know you are high maintance. You probably had tony running all over town this week since it was a home game. You know picking your parents up from the airport, calling cousin jim, signing autographs for half the family. This is fine during the off season but we are on a super bowl march and this can not be all about you. lol. No more waking tony up 2 and 3 times a night you will have to wait until after the game Sunday and I will even give you Monday and Tuesday after that no more. If this continues tony will drop you like a bad habit and there are thousands of cowboy fans that will help move your things out. where is the problem?
Did Jessica Simpson's attendance distract Romo?
Did offensive players just can't handle the cold?
Why do I feel this offense was not concentrated in the game at all?
I give Eagle's credit, I always think Andy Reid is a great coach.
This game is not about their offense.
Romo had 3 picks, what more do we need to say? I think his head is too high now. Maybe he has too many distractions now. he didn't got paid 63m for playing playboy.
Bounce back? maybe, consider next coming up is panthers.
I know the game is tightening up, nobody is piling up big numbers anymore, but 3 picks?
I know he always learn something from the mistakes, but Im sure he can learn more when his mistakes really cost the team a win. Buffalo's game was touch, but we won.
Im glad we lost this one, at least, Romo now can understand cowboys isn't that much better than eagles, and hopefully he can understand no matter how great he think he is, too much distraction will cost him, team, big time.

Dr. Jerry Jones
Says the trainer indicated Romo hand suffered a contusion, and will be "fine".
He said Gerode's injury is "promising" and not as serious as originally thought, although the MRI is scheduled for tomorrow.

Injuries...
Don't know if he's correct, but Jerry Jones said that ALL the injuries:
Romo: thumb..
Fasano: concussion...
Canty: knee...
Gurode: knee...
Watkins: LOW ankle sprain...
NONE are serious or season ending, nor should spill over into the Playoffs...
Or at least that's his story for now...we'll see...

Romo's interceptions...
This has bothered me all year...
Grizz, you have all the games on tape...
I bet if you go back and look at ALL of Romo's interceptions this year...
You'll find that 75% of them at least, come from Romo trying to FORCE the ball to Owens!
I bet he does that, because he's trying to make sure he gets Owen's "involved" in the game...
IF he had TG during this season, and wasn't forcing all these throws to Owens, I bet he doesn't have half as many..

Watkins has a "regular" ankle sprain, not serious and dreaded high ankle sprain.
Gurode sprained a knee, preliminary diagnosis is it's "not that serious".
Same thing with Canty; he didn't think "it was that bad". It's been injured before, and it's difficult for the Athletic Trainers (TM) to evaluate it, since it's looser and more elastic than knees of other players.
Fasano had a "mild concussion".
There's a chance all five guys could play next week.
After what we saw, that sounds like a minor miracle.

If we get a decent lead on Carolina
put Proctor in. We need to see if we can count on him.

Nice
Great, injuries don't look as bad. If canty is the only casualty where ok. The defensive line is probably the deepest part of our team. It would be nice to give gurode a week off the young kid looked good in his place and bring both him and canty back for washington and then two weeks off. Hopefully we dodged a bullet.

Redskins up 6-0 over giants.
I think Brandon Jacobs is really overrated and basically sucks. Go skins

Ouch!
I couldn't post until now. I was curled up, in the fetal position, remote clutched in my hand. I've gotten some help (actually valium) and I'm really much better now.
Romo has a terrible game. He was simply off in accuracy and then he started second-guessing himself and not trying throws he would have thought nothing of a week ago. Of all the injuries, the one that worries me most is Tony's confidence. The rest we can live with.
He has always bounced back from these, and I expect the same this time.
I have to go now. The nice man in the white coat says it's bed time...

don't worry dunk, he'll bounce back strong
he always does, he's too much of a competitor and too good not to.

It's a step in Romo's maturity. If he can handle
an off-day and return to form next Saturday, he will
be the same,old irrepresible Tony.

Agree with you Silver
He doesn't get the credit he's due. Proctor is a severe drop off in talent.

Here's a suggestion
If Canty is out an extended period of time. Move Ratliff to DE and Tank as the starting NT. I'm not sure Bowen at DE will be a short term solution. They could at least experiment with the idea if Canty is going to miss some games.

I'm not
He didn't play well when Canty was out. I think Ratliff would be a much better option.
