Cowboys pick up Zach Crockett
I guess at least some of the running game's problems must have been at the FB position...
This just in... the Cowboys pick up a veteran blocking back who also catches well out of the backfield. You do have to worry about anyone cut by Tampa Bay, which is making a play-off run...

I like this signing. Thanks Dunk!
Crockett is a good blocking FB, a good short-yardage back and a good goal line back...
This reassures my....
I would really like for the Boys to dig deep, and dig early in next years draft for a FB- cannonball blocker that can run, catch, pass protect, and blow open huge holes in the line and at the second level. Owen Schmitt and Peyton Hillis are my targets. We haven't had a FB since Moose was in the backfield. Maybe we'd be able to get out of the backfield once and for all.

Deon Anderson was really coming on before
he got hurt.

I'm not sold on 'em..
I like his tenacity as a lead back, pass protect needs to improve, and he is no threat coming out of the backfield or carrying the ball.I'd like to keep him as a back up...I don't see him as the long term answer at FB. Schmitt is a monster, basically a small guard with RB skills. 32 receptions this year, My choice for 3rd and 1 situations. He's a battering ram....has broken multiple face masks over the years.

He's just a rookie
picked up in the sixth round! Give someone a chance! He was doing a good job when he got his chance to play. He will improve. He caught the ball well out of the backfield and he was improving in his blocking.
Why go back in the draft to pick someone up and waste a draft pick? That makes no sense whatsoever. You give up on somebody only after 4 games?!?!
No threat coming out of the backfield?
Actually, Deon was catching quite a few out of the backfield and seemed to be a good option.
ummm...he has caught 6 balls.
There is no way of saying how well he would have progressed over the course of this season. Having 0 carries and 6 catches out of the FB position through 14 games is far from desirable. As quoted by Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith, Darryl "Moose" Johnston was the silent MVP of the great teams of the 90's....We need a Moose type FB...period... I have seen enough of JuJO and MBIII getting stuffed at the line because of inadequate lead blocking. I have seen enough of Romo running for his life cuz somebody isn't chippin' the pash rushers, We need a Larry Centers type play maker, which I think Hillis is. We need a Lorenzo Neal type blocker, which I think Schmitt is...Deon Anderson will never be a Hillis or a Schmitt.

Anyone that looks for contact
as much as Anderson likes to do, I think he'll be just fine as a fullback. I dont think we're looking for a Daryl Johnston type fullback for our offense anymore, more of an all around type fullback, great blocker, taking swing passes and to be the check down, plus Anderson is really good on special teams, so I dont think he's going anywhere next year.
I'm not saying get rid of him...
I'm saying upgrade the position....which grabbing either of the FB's I mentioned would be a dramatic upgrade. He can back up, and continue on special teams...The reason we didn't run against Philly is cuz we don't have a FB... Crockett is a good pick up, I like him, back in his prime, He is a Lorenzo Neal type, and I see us keeping him for the playoff run.

the reason we didn't run against philly
is we didn't try.hell we only had 14 carries as a team.had nothing to do with the FB
I like Cricket...
But any guy who breaks people's facemasks off intrigues me. Sounds like he could be a good 3rd TE on goal-line sets too. If we carry Hoyte and Cricket, why not Schmitt and Cricket? Cricket has a place on this team as a special teams player regardless.
I think Hoyte's stay in dallas will be coming
to an end, anytime you need neck surgery iat the end of a seaosn isn't a good thing to hear for a fullback, that's why I dont think he'll be back next year.
