Williams says he might horse collar tackle again
In an article by Clarence E. Hill, Jr, Roy Williams was quoted as saying he doesn't vow to never horse collar a player again .
Williams is remorseful because he made "a costly mistake" that took him away from the game he loves.
He understands how serious the NFL views the horse-collar tackle and readily aware that another transgression could result in a longer suspension.
But he stopped short of vowing that it would not happen again.
"It’s going to be on my mind," Williams said. "I’m going to think about it. But I can’t change the way I play. We will see what happens if I get put in that situation again.
"I am going to get talked about either way," Williams continued facetiously. "If I miss the tackle, it will be another thing people say I can’t do."
Just as I suspected, this mode of tackling people is so ingrained in the way Williams plays football, I definitely see him tackling that way again. I just hope it doesn't cost us a penalty at a crucial time in the playoffs.

Facemask
That's like being expected to vow to never grab someone's facemask. It will happen again. Hopefully it will not be as blatant and dirty as the most recent violation, but you can't expect him to just switch that instinct off.

Roy
Interesting comment by him "But I can't change the way I play".
I don't like the sound of that.
I agree, Terry. This may cost us big one day.
Don't these guys know that a game can turn on a single penalty.

i would look to benching him after comments like that...

Roy
You are right, you can't do many things.

He's gotta go
I think it's time for Roy to go. A facemask usually happens when someone's trying to wrap-up. A horsecollar is definitely easier to avoid.
What are the chances we can get the Chargers to trade us Michael Turner for Roy Williams in the offseason?

Despite the differing opinions on BTB
I'd be surprised if we keep Roy as a starter next year. Wade is a defensive guy and he knows better than any of us what a liability Roy can be in coverage. If he is back next year, look for a hybrid type position that does not put a premium on coverage but no way is he back as starting safety next year. Regardless of what any of us think, his issues will be dealt with.

I certainly think
this - amnong other things - will make them look at a SS in the draft this year...

won't happen
Hamlin would be moved to SS and Watkins at FS. We don't need to draft a SS. That said, Roy is not going anywhere. We are stuck with him for another 2 or 3 years because of his contract.

Well, I don't mean in the 1st round
but I do think the next SS might be looked for. Ham is good at SS, but better at FS. Watkins hasn't shown anything more than Special Teams and dime.

I know I've been defending Roy in the past
but we can't afford to have our starting SS constantly being suspended in the future because of this either.

STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES
When you get suspended for repeatedly violating the rule, the soundbite is "I will never do it again, being suspended and forced to miss a pivotal game made a powerful impression."
Not some soundbite that can be twisted to say, "I don't care, so what."
I'm not saying that's what he said, but when you get grounded you don't tell your parents, "ya, i'll probably do that again."
The Newman situation showed that the lauge office pays attention to these quotes.

It has nothing to do with it being engrained
he is just a crappy player, so he has to horse collar people to make a tackle.
"I’m going to think about it. But I can’t change the way I play. We will see what happens if I get put in that situation again."
You put yourself in that situation by making the decision to use a harmful tackling method buddy. Its like he feels no remorse for his wrong doing. I really hope we cut him, the guy is such an azz.

If Roy is reading this
instead of grabbing the collar, grab the guy at the waist. Just like you did to NE's TE, Ben Graham - yes he was injured on the play.
