Bradie James: One ticked-off Cowboy

When I saw the headline for Nick Eatman’s latest effort over at DC.com, "Still Stewing," I thought it was an article about defensive coordinator Brian Stewart. Nope, it’s all about Bradie James and Jon Kitna. Instead of writing anything, I’ll just turn it over to Bradie.

"It has been circled on my calendar the whole year and here we are and I'm looking forward to it," James said. "It bothers me and it bothers a lot of guys on the defensive side of the ball. I just didn't understand where it was coming from. I thought it was classless.

"Yeah, they beat us. So what? It was over with. He was at home and we were still playing."

[snip]

"It's not in the back of my brain, it's on my brain," James said of Kitna. "It's on a lot of our minds. The best thing about it is we get to play these guys this year.

"Just to hear a quarterback talking about another player - it breaks the code. We don't talk about each other. It's like a blindside. I was like, 'Where did that come from and I don't even know the guy.' But he will get to know me here in a few more days. We're looking forward to that."

[snip]

"You can ask me about Jon Kitna every day from here on out the rest of my life," James said. "And I will get fired up."

Love it. I hope the secondary doesn’t forget about Mike Furrey. I’d say this would be a good week for Roy to unleash one of those knockout shots.

BTW, since I cribbed so heavily from Eatman’s article, make sure you click over and read the whole thing. I want to be neighborly and all that.

T.O. is having a birthday party and it’s also a party for charity. The transformation is complete. But check out some of the guest list.

Owens' invited guests include Jessica Alba, Beyonce, Ashton Kutcher and Terrell, Texas, native Jamie Foxx.

Jessica Alba! Beyonce! Someone alert Tony Romo quick, hotties in the house!

james

i wondered if he had it circled on the calendar...because I was going to circle it for him.  Good to hear, he is basically as mad as i wnat him to be for this game, maybe even madder.  I love the line that Kitna isn't on the back of his mind.

I'm so glad that getting mad in football actually helps you play well.  This wouldn't work so well if it was golf.

by ab03 on Dec 4, 2007 12:25 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

but

just watch out for those penalties after the play...don't forget the pledge!

for james, this will be a good measuring stick game.  He was so terrible in the Detroit game last year it will only be fitting that he dominates the game this year.  Hopefully Stewart has some plays for him.

Bradie James is a little thin skinned

to be playing football, if a quarterback, especially one that has accomplished very little in the NFL makes statements that were made as a result of answering questions about the game and your play in it, play that we all seen where Bradie and Roy couldn't cover anyone, neither could anyone on our defense that day for that matter, gets him all hot and bothered to the point where he has this game on his brain, sounds like a guy who gets distracted very easily, might not be a player you want on your football team when you play on Sundays. Maybe Bradie, you should spend your time learning the gameplan and your assignments instead of worrying about what a below average quarterback says to the media, even accurate statements about your play in a game last year. If you need bulletin board dribble like this to get you to play better, bradie, you're in the wrong business. Maybe we can get you an appointment with Dr Phil, maybe one of those Dr Phil house things he does, you and Kitna to talk things out.

by Deke on Dec 4, 2007 12:25 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

yeah

"might not be a player you want on your football team..."

i was thinking the same thing.  Why can't he take a page out of Ray Lewis's book and be a calm, mild mannered ILB who quietly goes about his work.

Actually, I was thinking that Bradie James is a badass who represents everything I love about badass LB's and the game of football.

It's obviously been very distracting for him

this year. not.

I don't see what the problem is

I mean the Patriots do this every week, they'll take any little thing and use it as motivation to get them through that week of practice and into the next game.  I'm sure Bradie wants to play well every week but he'll have a little extra motivation this week because of what was said last year.  It's easy for an 11-1 to team to grow complacent with the success we're having, so I don't see how him using what Kitna said to push himself this week is a bad thing

by 703Cowboys on Dec 4, 2007 6:38 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Deke, you're so full of poop

There are so many players, even great players, who use what things others players say as motivation and there is absolutely nothing wrong with this.

Who said bulletin board material is necessary for him to play better? he didn't say that. He just said he was pissed at Kitna and he's going to pay as well he should.

Try not being so damn self righteous and judgmental for a change, its getting really old.

Deeek = Kitna

might not be a player you want on your football team

Let me get this straight, Deeek, now you not only want to run Roy out of town, but you're calling into question James as well?

Maybe Bradie, you should spend your time learning the gameplan and your assignments

Not sure, Deeek, but it looks to me like you think James doesn't know the gameplan and his assignments.    I can only guess you're doing your best Kitna impersonation here... You don't mind if I just call you Kitna from now on?

If you need bulletin board dribble like this to get you to play better, bradie, you're in the wrong business

The wrong business?  Unless you've had your head up ... uh, a dark place, Kitna, you'd know that the proverbial bulletin board has been a part of football FOREVER.  And "get you to play better"???  Yea, your head needs more sunlight, Kitna.

Maybe we can get you an appointment with Dr Phil

Speaking from experience?

Deke you are obviously a real man

because real men like you don't get offended when someone bashes their performance in something they take a lot of pride in and put a lot of effort into.  I am just in awe of your stoicism Deke, I just wish more of our players could be like you.

Secondly,

Do you honestly expect Bradie James to take a public flogging for his performance by a peer without getting upset?  The sort of thing John Kitna did is humiliating.

Burt-D

by Burt D on Dec 4, 2007 9:37 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Bradie should of just acknowledged

the statement of Kitna and just should of said, you know, he was right, I didn't play a great game, thats on me, but I'm young, I'm still learning and I'll take his comments as a motivation to play better, get into better shape, work on my technique, study the gameplans and know my responsibilties and the next time we play Detroit, I'll prove to Kitna and everyone that the previous game was just an aberration.

Thats a statement that would of gotten James not only respect from other players on the lions but certainly the respect from younger players on his own team. Falling into a trap and resorting to the same antics of John Kitna, just lowers you into that same barrel he came out of, what exactly has John Kitna ever done in this league for James to get so bent out of shape over, nothing, he's a below average quarterback where James is playing the best season of his career, a season that could get him a invite to the probowl after this year, something Kitna wont be gettinganytime soon. Just like water off a ducks back, just ignore it Bradie, you're better than that.

Just have to put it into perspective BTB bloggers, would you rather the win in Detroit and help eliminate the Lions from getting to the playoffs on their own field or getting some kind of personal revenge/attack, that might draw a flag, a penalty that could cost us a game and a heavy fine afterwards by the league, I'd take the win eliminating the lions from the playoffs as sweet revenge.

Too many kids today on the streets in cities in this country are killing other kids because of some kind of perceived dissing, or lack of respect because of some meaningless words, so excuse me if I find trash talking as dribble and part of the game. I dont think Athletes should be looked at as role models, but I do think they should be an example for kids.

Wow just wow

Are you honestly comparing a little banter between opposing football teams to gang violence?  Wow.  Deke you are waaay overreacting.  Its not a bad thing what Bradie is doing.  You just need to calm down.

And I think Bradie James is professional enough to get him hyped up for a game and not to draw stupid penalties, as he is our sole defensive captain.  There is a reason the players voted him captain.

Bradie should of just acknowledged the statement of Kitna and just should of said, you know, he was right, I didn't play a great game, thats on me, but I'm young, I'm still learning and I'll take his comments as a motivation to play better, get into better shape, work on my technique, study the gameplans and know my responsibilties and the next time we play Detroit, I'll prove to Kitna and everyone that the previous game was just an aberration.

If Bradie said that I am sure a lot of players would think he is a little bitch.  I doubt they would respect him for that.

now its Banter!!

I thought you said he was being disrespectful, now its banter, make up your mind, he didn't say it right after the game, he made some comments about what they thought they could do against the cowboy defense, in a radio interview sometime much later than when the game was played, big deal I said, I'm not the one overreacting on this, Bradie James and the media seems to be the one thats doing that.

I'm not comparing it to Gang violence, but its parallel to whats going on in the real world with regards to getting some kind of pay back for what someone else says, cant you comprehend that. I'll say it again, WHO CARES WHAT JOHN KITNA SAYS ABOUT ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!

And from Kitna is saying lately about his own teams defense, I think the comment about what I thought Bradie James should of said would prove he's not a little bitch, the more Kitna talks, the more he's the one that sounds like the little bitch.

by Deke on Dec 4, 2007 11:57 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

What James is doing is banter

isn't that what we are talking about?

What Kitna was doing was bashing another player.

I agree Burt

Deke is way off on this and just preaching and being judgmental like he usually does.

trash talking among players is very common and there is nothing wrong with telling a player you're coming after him for retribution of being disresected last season.

I commend James for calling Kitna out on his statements.

by Terry on Dec 4, 2007 12:36 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The problem is this

Who the hell is Kitna to call ANYONE out for playing poorly?  His team last year was horrible.  His team this year is not good.  In fact, his teams are almost always bad.  He was on the 2nd worst team last year, got a win against a playoff team, and proceeded to bash its players.  THAT is unprofessional in any business, and that is the kind of thing that, in sports, you pay for.  I think it's great that Bradie is thinking about this, because every bit of extra motivation helps.

But yeah, they might want to pass around the penalty pledge again this week and get all of the defensive players that Kitna called out to sign double.

Nah, he just had a big hit against the Packers...He won't make another play for at least another 3-4 weeks.

Hear Kitna's comments for yourself...

If reading Kitna's comments gets you fired up hearing them should add a little more kerosene. Times of the offending comments:

2:00 - He talks about our ineffective interior LB's
4:05 - He calls out Bradie James
6:30 - He talks about T-New

In the interview he also talked about how Ware was our most effective defensive player but he always rushed from the same spot. Ware had 3 sacks that game but, as Kitna put it (8:40), a couple of those were when he was scrambling and had almost got back to the line of scrimmage so it wasn't like Ware beat anybody. Don't think Ware will be coming from the same spot on Sunday nor will Ware be his only concern.

At one point he even referred to Chicago as being "ripe for the pickin'" and playing with no confidence...the same Bears that played Indy in the SuperBowl.

Nothing would be finer than putting a Texas beatdown on the Lions at Ford Field, rubbing Kitna's nose in his loose comments AND spoiling his 10 win prediction.

thanks for the link

I listened to the whole conversation and I found absolutlely nothing in what he said that wasn't true with regards to how our defense played at the end of the season last year.

Really?

Do you honestly think Newman is not someone you should be scared to throw at?
Deke you are ridiculous.

And I cold go up to a parapalegic and make fun of him because he can't walk.  Its true, but that does not give me a right to make fun of him because its true.  There is something called showing respect for your peers.  You almost never hear players bash others after they beat them, and for good reason.  That is just disrespectful.

Burt-D

by Burt D on Dec 4, 2007 11:04 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

but Deke, you're missing the point

It doesn't matter if its true or not, its being highly disrespectful. NFL players are a fraternity and you don't call out another player like that without suffering the consequences.

James should have said what he did, it needed to be said, and Kitna needed to be called out that he's going to get his ass kicked on Sunday.

In Romo we Trust

by Terry on Dec 4, 2007 12:39 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

And really

Ridiculing someone for their poor performance is unprofessional in any situation.  What James is saying now is much different from what Kitna was saying then, and this is something that happens in every sport (and in human psychology generally).

by grapejoos on Dec 4, 2007 2:04 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Kitna

is only slightly less dumb than Grossman, and dumb and outspoken is never a good combination.

Kitna can think what he wants, but the vast majority of NFL QBs keep their mouths shut about players whose job it is to knock the hell of them.
