Drew Bledsoe's time almost up in BigD

Adam Schefter on Bledsoe's future.

The Cowboys are expected to release veteran quarterback Drew Bledsoe, which will free him to sign with another team and save Dallas $5.5 million against the salary cap. Bledsoe is due a $1 million roster bonus March 2, and the Cowboys do not intend to pay that or the $4.5 million in base salary he is scheduled to make in 2007.

Tom Orsborn talks a little Cowboys, and how a lot of mock drafts have Dallas choosing a CB in the first round. I just don't see this happening, because the only way it happens is if the Cowboys moved Anthony Henry to FS. I'm not a big believer that they will do that. If anything, I think they would choose a FS before a CB in round one and keep Henry where he is. But I actually think they are going with either offensive line or defensive front seven. The article mentions one of the guys I've been keeping tabs on, Ben Grubbs.

Auburn's Ben Grubbs (6 foot 3, 305 pounds) should be available when the Cowboys are on the clock in the first round. The Cowboys could always keep Henry at corner and acquire a partner for Williams either via free agency or in a draft rich with safeties.

There are a couple of good interior line prospects, so by the time the Cowboys are ready to draft they may be able to trade down and still come away with a guy they like on the offensive line. But this is all guesswork, because who they sign in free agency will determine who they pick in the draft.

Wade Phillips' has been working on his stand-up routine.

My quote of the day came from new Dallas head coach Wade Phillips, who took the podium in the media room at the Combine and announced his measurables as 5-foot-11½, with a 40 time of 6.6 -- "at best.''

I think Bum's boy is going to be fairly entertaining while working in the carnival setting that is the Cowboys.

What about your weight, Wade? I noticed you skipped that measurable.

As much as I love the skill positions
for flash, I know deep down inside that chapionships are built on the offensive and defensive lines, and we need a little work on both.

Grubbs
Grubbs is a stud.  He's the guy I'm hoping the Cowboys draft.

And speaking of second-string QBs
What are your thoughts on Joey Harrington as Romo's backup? I understand he is being released by Miami.

I wouldn't freak out if it was Harrington
At least he's got a lot of playing time under his belt and he seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't be a problem in the locker room. I still prefer Damon Huard, but he's going to be a hot property in the backup world.

Patrick Ramsey
Anyone know his status with the Jets. They just named Pennington the starter for next year...I'm wondering if Ramsey is a FA. I think Washington gave up on him too soon.

Nevermind
I just read that the Jets gave him another year before the start of last season. He's only available by trade--which the Jets may be willing to do since they have Pennington and a guy they drafted high last year. I think they only gave Washington a sixth rounder to get him.

I think
Harrington and Ramsey are roughly equivalent players. Good physical skills, questionable decision-making.

but
harrington has a lot more experience and garrett knows him
