Fowler signs with Philly

Holy crap! Did you see the money the Eagles gave Ryan Fowler? I think it's safe to say the Cowboys won't be matching that offer.

The Eagles have signed Cowboys linebacker Ryan Fowler to a restricted free agent offer sheet, Fowler's agent, Alan Herman, told the Daily News today.

Herman said Fowler stands to make $4 million in the first season of the 4-year deal, which he said would ultimately pay about $10.5 million.

SB Nation is kicking off a live call-in show/podcast with SB Nation bloggers. I'm sure I'll be on the show sometime soon. It starts at 8 PM tonight. Click here for more information.

This is what
Jones was talking about before the FA period began when he said "We will not be paying back-up players starters' money. It was a mistake last year we won't be repeating" or words to that effect...

"Holy Snikes Batman"
I didn't realize he was 10.5 million dollars good, never really seemed to impress me except on special teams.

For a starter, not bad
It's really not that high considering he will be a starter. It works out to be 2.6 mil a year over 4 years. I would like to see the way it's structured because I will bet they made it very cap friendly over the length of the contract.

Will he be a starter?
He'll have to fight Dhani Jones, Matt McCoy, Jeremiah Trotter, Chris Gocong and Omar Gaither for one of those 4-3 spots. I don't know if he is good enough for that.

Size
It seems he'll bring some much needed size to the Eagles LB corps. We have some speed at LB, but lack alot of flat out bulk. If Gocong is healthy next year, and with Fowler splitting time with Trotter... It looks like we'll finally see some size there.

As far as competition. He doesn't have alot. Of the guys you mentioned, only Trotter is an inside LB like Fowler. He won't be in competition with all but one of the guys you mentioned, assuming the Eagles don't draft a guy like Patrick Willis or something like that.

Trotter on the way out
I think Fowler will be the starting MLB for the Eagles with in the next year or two. Trotter's best years are behind him. It's only a matter of time before he is released.

Wouldn;t surprise me
I think alot will depend on what the Eagles do in the draft. If they draft a big middle LB, I really think Trotter could be gone by training camp.

If they don't, I think you'll see he and Fowler splitting time.

Fowler a Titan
Fowler has changed his mind and is now a Titan.

Oh well, now they get to pay him $4 mil next year!

BTW, here is my crazy theory as to why he changed his mind...

Jerry Jones does not want the Eagles to get this guy. Fowler desperately does not want the Cowboys to match an offer for him since he wants a chance to start. Jones calls his agent and says "if you sign with the Eagles I'll match the deal." Since he was promised a shot to start by both teams, Fowler and his agent decide to sign with the Titans rather than risk calling Jones' bluff.

We'll probably never know, but it's interesting to speculate...

Hmmm
Fowler's not THAT good. I do wonder though. Philly is a good team and the defensive coaching is top-notched...

i dont think that is the way jj works
i wish it were, but i dont think he is that good.

i am half afraid king jerry will see two teams bidding for fowler and think he must have overlooked something and then rush to match the offer sheet...

I thought that too
If there's teams bidding over the guy and paying him some fairly significant money... he may think there's something there that he didn't see at first. Parcells saw something.

In the end though, I think JJ is smart enough not to give Ryan Fowler $5 mil next year...

i hope so
I hope so.
it's hard to imagine parcells signing davis though...
on the other hand if he stayed another year he certainly would've coaxed some old giant out of retirement....
