Free agents not named Davis

How about some news on free agents not named Leonard Davis? Like Kenyon Coleman and his courtship with the Jets.

A good place to start would be signing free agent defensive end Kenyon Coleman, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys. The Jets are expected to make Coleman an offer, and if they sign him they'll add a lineman who played in the 3-4 in Dallas, has talent as a run stopper, and last year recorded four sacks.

Or Marc Colombo and the Broncos:

New York Jets offensive tackle Wade Smith will visit the Broncos on Tuesday. The Broncos also are interested in Dallas offensive tackle Marc Colombo.

And Martin Gramatica:

Also today, the Cowboys are expected to re-sign kicker Martin Gramatica, according to his agent, Jack Reale. Gramatica took over for Mike Vanderjagt in November and made 6-of-8 field goal attempts to close the season.

QB Brad Johnson is supposed to visit Dallas today.

Don't worry about Colombo
Jones will get this deal done eventually. I think Jones told him to test the market and he'll match any offer. The right side of our line should be pretty awesome with Davis and Colombo next season.

Signing Gramatica is a good move. He was pretty solid for us after we cut Vandershank.

I'd love for us to sign Brad Johnson, he'd make a great backup.

I think we can address FS in the draft as it looks like Reggie Nelson just might slide down to 22. He's the ultimate CF we need to team with our big hittin' SS.

I love your optimism
and I hope you're right. Davis and Colombo would really give us a solid right side.

Rather draft Chris Houston with our 22nd
lets give Watkins another year before we throw him under the bus, he did make drastic improvement in the second half of the season.

Brad Johnson
I like him merely as a BACKUP quarterback... but nothing more.

At least, if Romo ever goes down with a serious injury -- God willing he never does -- we'll have someone with experience behind him.

But as far as Johnson as a starter, I don't care for him.

He had his chance with Minnesota last year, and he totally stunk up the joint for the entire season.

After leading TB to their only Super Bowl, he really hasn't lit up the world with his play.  I can't tell you how boring offensively the Vikings games were in 2006.  Dink here, dunk there, fall asleep here, nod off there.

One good thing about Johnson, though, is that he has had experience holding FGs and XPs.  He did it when he backed up Randall Cunningham during the Denny Green/Randy Moss/Cris Carter era.

well of course he'll be a backup
Romo is the man and anyone the Cowboys sign will be strictly a backup, period.

Coleman wold not be
a huge loss. Hatcher is already a better player and Junior Glymph has great potential. We were probably looking for a DE in the draft anyway.

I don't think we need another DE
we have 5 on the roster already besides Coleman: Canty, Hatcher, Spears, Bowen, and Ratliff

Yes we do
we need a hybrid, DE/OLB, when we play the nickel, who is going to be the defensive end, Ellis is getting up there,Canty and Spear aren't defensive ends in the 4-3 package or the nickel package, Hatcher, Ellis and Ware are the only real players that can play end and Carpenter is heading into his second year, another pass rusher is a definite need on this team.

question
Wait a sec. Coleman was released right?

by Cowboys81 on Mar 5, 2007 10:25 AM CST reply actions

From my understanding...
Kenyon Coleman is an unrestricted free agent.

Yes. Coleman's a UFA.
But if the Jets want him, they can probably pay him average starter's money. I don't see that Dallas has tried to resign him.
