Cowboys news and notes
This one is for long-time BTB regular Deke, who loves him some Jerry Jones as the GM. I kid, of course. ESPN broke down the front-offices of all 32 teams, and this is their caption of the Dallas front office.
Owner, president and GM Jerry Jones is more involved in personnel matters than any other owner in the NFL. He attends all-star games and the combine, he watches film and he is directly involved in every player acquisition. In the past, he respected then coach Bill Parcells' opinion on the type of player Parcells wanted, and they seemed to have a good working relationship. It will be interesting to see whether new coach Wade Phillips has the same kind of influence on Jones.
Even the urinals at the new stadium were personally tested out by JJ. I kid, of course – I think.

Todd Archer does a nice job in his sendoff of Drew Bledsoe.

Some local talent is coming to the Ranch.
The TCU players are offensive tackle Herb Taylor, safety Marvin White, quarterback Jeff Ballard, safety Eric Buchanan, wide receiver Michael DePriest and wide receiver Quentily Harmon. Also expected to visit is Iowa tight end Scott Chandler of Southlake Carroll.

Love me some me!!
An accurate saying for Jerry Jones, as an owner and a businessman, there's no one better in the NFL, but as a GM, he's a complete failure, and I heard it time and time by many other bloggers on here that Jerry has Learned his lesson, if he has, which I highly doubt because of his ego, he should let the scouting department run the draft, let the coaching staff consult with them what they need for getting the best results, if the defensive requires a specific type of player, let the scouting staff do their job in breaking down what the players ability is and how he stacks up, hopefully CHARACTER will be also high on the list of intangibles. If Jerry wants to give a pep talk before the draft or lead the prayer before the draft, or call a player to tell him he was selected by the cowboys, thats fine, but what I dont want him over riding what the scouting department suggests with who the cowboys should select in the draft.

that won't happen Deke
Jones will most definitely rely on his scouting department more so than any other time since he's owned the team.
The Cowboys will select players according to the value board the scouts assemble, its as simple as that.

And I disagree
that he's a complete falure. He is just not as successful in his GM role as he has been in other aspects of running the team. The Cowboys are not close to being the worst managed team in fotball.

This sounds encouraging

I personally think that JJ has learned from the past and will lean on his scouting dept. This could be the draft that sky rockets Ireland into consideration for a GM spot. Although, I hope the Cowboys can somehow retain him.
