Mosley on Romo's Contract
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks...
In his latest Hashmarks blog Mosley says he has heard rumors that Romo is going to get signed before training camp. Take a look and see what you think Terry.
Personally, I am all for signing Romo now. I am in favor of the Drew Brees type contract with a roster bonus before the draft next year. This shows Romo we are in for the long haul with him but also protects the franchise from ending up back in salary cap hell if the devil creeps into Valley Ranch and breaks Romo's decision maker or his throwing arm.

I agree with Mosley
The Cowboys, and rightfully and wisely so, have cast their lot with Romo as their man, so that means paying him franchise type money now.
This argument that we should wait has no merit because their are absolutely no indicators that would lead a sain and reasonable person to think Romo will fail. This garbage that he played poorly down the stretch is nonsense. Romo has shown he's the real deal in more than enough games and will only get better.
The Cowboys would be smart to cut a deal now because after this season his market value will increase substantially and I mean through the roof.

For the love of romo
I do not see the advantage of signing him early. To hopefully get a great QB on the cheap? What are the chances Tom Condon has him sign a bargain contract? What are the chances if he does sign a bargain contract that he wants a new one when he presumably outplays his contract?
If he does not play above average, a regular type of contract would be a mistake and we could be in cap purgatory.
What if he plays lights out and he was not signed early? We pay market price for a great QB. How many teams has that hurt? I can't think of too many. How many teams have been hurt by making a long term committment to a QB with limited experience? More than a few.
I think if any early contract is going to get done it will be heavily ladden with performance incentives which takes some of the risk out.

your analysis is flawed
in thinking that we will have to pay market value for him after the season. The reality is we will probably have to pay ABOVE market value to sign him because some desparate team will offer him a huge contract that will be ridiculous.
Like I said, really good young qb's are very rarely ever put out on the open market, so I'm thinking Romo would be substantially overvalued if allowed to hit the open market after the season because of that fact.

For the next month or so
I think I'll paraphrase your "by line"... In Jerry Jones We Trust. Jones has been masterful at this aspect of General Managership. I think he'll do what's both right and fair by Romo.

I heard
On ESPN'S First Take this morning that it's highly probably now that Jerry will wait until mid season or after to give Romo a new contract. They will take the wait and see approach, which I agree 100 percent unlike some who think they have seen enough already. It appears there are some reservations on Jerry's part and Romo doesn't want a mid-tier deal.
There shouldn't be any rush as I have stated many times here. If Romo wants to be paid like a top 5 QB than he has to show this on a consistent basis.
Jerry is not in a rush for good reasons so we shouldn't either.
