Could Cowher be a Cowboy?
Posted: Sunday June 24, 2007 08:16AM ET
Any number of NFL teams could take a run at Bill Cowher. It wouldn't surprise anyone if Cowboys owner Jerry Jones fired Wade Phillips after just one season to make a pitch for him. Patience is running thin with Giants coach Tom Coughlin. The same is true with the Buccaneers' Jon Gruden. But the Panthers, Redskins and Browns probably make the most sense.
But of all these teams, the Boys REALLY make the most sense...

Cowher
I grew up near Pittsburgh, and I HATE the Steelers...but I have always loved the Chin.
I could only dream of him in Dallas. What a great coach...

Cowher is an overrated coach
His 2005 team was really lucky to win the SB a few years ago. I grew up in western PA and really never thought much of the guy.
I think Pittsburgh's scouting department and Dick LeBeau made the Steelers, not Cowher. I see him coaching the Panthers if he makes a comeback since he's residing in that area now.

Cowher
I know one thing, he's a passionate coach who looks out for his players. I'm not saying we should dump Wade, I'm just saying whoever gets the Chin will be a very happy team.
Cowher did a great job dealing with the Rooney's mismanagement of free agency. They never kept their own free agents. Cowher recycled players through his system and made it work.

Pitt & Cowher
Actually, I've always admired the way the Steelers approach free agency and the draft. Many, many guys left that team just after the prime of their careers. While some went on to have some success (Woodson, Chad Brown), they never duplicated their outstanding success that they had in Pitt because they were just starting the downside of their careers. Pitt doesn't overpay for their own free agents or overpay for other team's castoffs. Istead, they very successfully build through the draft.
As for Cowher, I think it is way too soon to even begin thinking about that. While I think Cowher is an excellent coach, I'm very excited to see Wade Phillips. My gut tells me that he will be very successful and win a Super Bowl in Dallas - no facts to back that up, other that my opinion that he inherits a very talented roster and is the right type of coach for the Cowboys at this particular juncture.

oh, man are we bored or what?
The plan is laid out, Phillips will tutor Garrett. At least that seems to be the thought in Dallas now. Cowler left The Steelers and football, I haven't seen anything that says he says he's coming back in the near future, although I realistically don't role it out; but I have heard lots of media unconfirmed and sources close to reports.
No, Lets stick to the plan until it is proven unsuccessful. How can you build a team that wins consistently if you have a coaching merry go round!

Cowher
said himself that he was only taking a short time off. He'll be back next year, someone will throw him a ton of money.
Although I'd love Parcells here, to fire Wade after just a year would be the old Jerry returning. I don't see it happening.

oh, sorry didn't know he said that.
I didn't want Parcells to start with ( didn't trust him, but BEING A GRUMPY OLD SCHOOL GUY MYSELF I LIKED HIM ) but he did give us a core to build on. As far as Wade goes I accept him more readily based on his his defeneive philosophy goes with oure player and he has had success. He also has limited ties to other teams ( I always saw Parcells as a Giant ), yet he has ties to Texas ( no, I'm not a Texan and have never lived there, but I havealways been a Dallas fan ).
Lets give Wade a year ok before we start begging for something else.#1 becareful what you wish for #2 If we go after Cowler that means we didn't have a very good season.
I'm ready to have a coach for the next 10-15 years, that means we might have a guy who accually is creative and know how to beat the opposition

lets get one thing straight
Garrett is the future HC of the Cowboys, not some overrated prima dona coach with a big chin.

For those players
who have expressed relief over being in a more casual atmosphere without looking over their shoulder, Coach Cowher would be their worst nightmare. Coach Parcells was much more controlled and personable with the players than my observation (admittedly limited) of Coach Cowher.
And part of running a first class organization is integrity. Coach Phillips is the Cowboys' coach and would have to really screw up to get relieved in one year. I don't believe that will happen. He needs to get opportunity to determine his success on the field for at least 3 years (hey - we went that long with Coach dud).

I think knees is right
Jones' has a strategic plan that has Red Ball as HC in two to three years. Wade will be Medicare eligible and Red Ball will be as ready as he'll ever be.
But the best laid plans... I see Jones at least thinking about Cowher if he comes back on the market. My own guess is that he is gone from NFL coaching for three more years. I think his daughter Linsay graduates high school in 2010. I could see him doing a college gig in between, or TV analyst work (which I think he is signed up for) because it is less demanding.

Cowher No way I want him
if he is the head coach sorry I will quit being a fan of the Boyz - I hated Bpp but knew he would bring us a good D - and a lousy OL - I don't think Cowher is all that great I think D LeBeau made the the team I am with Terry on this one - I rather have Wisenhunt and Grim here - SO MHUFF you like the old school coaches lets stick with one that will not colect SS - Bpp did a great job its what did you do for me lately - Bpp got us to one Playoff game - Bpp the game has passed him by
I heard that Wash was talking to him - oh I got a coach for us Joe Gibbs how about that MHUFF ?
