Could Barber or JuJo be traded for LJ?

Reading this made me throw up in my mouth a little.

Let's make a deal for Larry Johnson

RB Larry Johnson is threatening to hold out if the Chiefs don't give him a new deal that reflects his status as one of the NFL's elite backs. As a result, NFL scribes with nothing better to do before training camps begin are speculating on the possibility of Johnson being traded.

Well, I don't have anything better to do, so let's get the Cowboys involved in the conversation. I reckon I ought to mention that the Cowboys turned down a chance to get Johnson cheap in 2004, right after Dick Vermeil publicly accused him of wearing diapers. Johnson certainly won't come cheap after rushing for 3,539 yards and 37 TDs the last two seasons.

Prolific e-mailer J.T. suggests offering the Chiefs next season's No. 1 pick and Julius Jones. Sounds great from a Cowboys' perspective, but the Chiefs would want more than the twentysomethingth overall pick and an average back who will be an unrestricted free agent.

I called someone who knows much more about the NFL trade market than I do and asked what the price might be for the Cowboys. His answer: Marion Barber and the Browns' first-rounder.

That's a bit rich for my blood. The knock on Barber is that he hasn't been a feature back since high school. Sounds like Priest Holmes when he signed with Kansas City, and he managed to rack up 6,566 total yards and 61 touchdowns in his first three seasons with the Chiefs. The Browns' pick will probably be in the top five. Johnson is a horse without too much tread on his tires, but I couldn't give up that much for a guy who you've got to give a huge contract.

Here's the deal I suggest Jerry offer the Chiefs: Barber and the Cowboys' first- and third-rounders next year. You folks down with that?

I would never ever trade Barber.  He can be better than LJ IMO.  (and he is not a jerk either)

no way!!

I wouldn't trade for LJ when there is a very good possibility of getting DMac in next years draft, who is much, much better than LJ.

All of this trade talk regarding our backs is getting ridiculous. We have a great combo in JJ and MB3 for this season, we shouldn't mess with it. Next season is a different story since both will be UFA, but this year we should go with both and not look back.

No thanks

LJ could be incredible for us for 2 or 3 years. I think he could easily make us the clear cut favorite in the NFC this year, and next year.

But do you trade a great 2 years for the possibility of a great back for 8-10 years?

I say no. Keep what we have, resign Barber (unless JuJo has a monster year which I doubt) and if we're lucky enough to have the first or second pick, take McFadden. If we can't get that high, resign JuJo and Barber, keep the 2 headed monster, and draft a DT and WR in the first round.

Barber isnt a UFA next year

Depending on his playing time we can void the last two years of his contract, in which case he'll be a RFA not a UFA.

Someone check my facts on this

I could be wrong

my understanding is that he can void

out the remaining years on his contract depending on how much playing time he receives. Whether he is a UFA or RFA, he'll still be offered a big contract next season if your predictions of him come true. The only difference between UFA and RFA is that we'll get the opportunity to match or be compensated by a draft pick if we lose him.

416 Carries!

Let the Chiefs deal with that. There is statisical evidence showing a significant probability that LJ's production will sharply decline in the coming years due to his humungous workload. There's no reason to give up a high 1st round pick AND a young, starting quality back for someone that's being run into the ground. LJ should hold out this year for a big payday because, odds are, he's not going to be the same back he has been in the future.

At least I don't live in Philadelphia.

I tend to agree

LJ is still a great back, but with two first round picks next year, I can't see taking him over what the draft pick represents. Veteran backs have a very short playing life and rookie backs are typically ready to play right away if they have the talent. I say draft if we still think RB is a need next year.

That's true

LJ is a great back, but #1 he's got a lot of wear and tear on him, #2 he will cost a ton of $$$.

If the Chiefs really do let him get away, then they are bigger fools than I thought. I doubt he goes anywhere.

man, oh man! I hate fantacy football!

But, I'll play.
Given any of the for mentioned scenerios I would say... No! A back is only as good as his line and I think Johnson knows it, and thats why he is trying to get a new deal before the season starts. I bet if he stays were he is at his numbers will be way down this year!

I think he would definitly put up better numbers with us. I would love to have him, but the price you give or what would realisticlly come from KC is way to high for a guy who is threatening to hold his team hostage!

Trad for L.J

I would rather give up Jones and Ellis and maybe the 3rd pick in next yrs draft. That's in my perfict world.

Optimistic

You sure are optimistic that we're getting him.

Like I've said before. If he's as good as you say he is?? It will take the first or second pick to get him...
