Cowboys QB coach Wade Wilson suspended for five games

It’s official. Wade Wilson is suspended for the first five games. Here’s Wilson’s comment from the DMN:

"This situation is the result of an uninformed decision that I made, and I accept responsibility for my mistake," Wilson said in a statement. "My actions were the result of trying to improve the quality of my life based upon my 20-plus years of living with diabetes.

"I did, however, make an error. I had a very limited exposure to a substance. It did not have a positive effect on the quality of my life, and I soon discarded it. It was used only by me and not made available to anyone else."

Jerry Jones seems to be taking it well, a little better than I though he would. Maybe Wade Wilson was using it for his own purposes, or at least they can’t prove that he wasn’t. Regardless, Jerry says there will be no change Wilson’s employment or role in Dallas.

"We understand and support the commissioner’s decision," Jones said in the statement. "Wade Wilson accepts responsibility for his mistake in judgment and recognizes the importance of the NFL's performance enhancing substance policies. After learning of his error, he cooperated fully with all of the parties involved in this matter.

"In reviewing the facts, we know that Wade had absolutely no intention of breaking any league rules. He has a long track record of quality service to the NFL and community service to the cities where has played and coached. We recognize and support the importance placed on these matters by the National Football League. We also support Wade Wilson during this time and look forward to his contributions to the future of the Dallas Cowboys."

Hat tip to barrypopik for catching the Wade Wilson story in the very beginning and posting it late last night on BTB.

Hat tip to Cowboys81 for posting the suspension in the comments.

How

does a player get only 4 games and a coach get's 5 games? I think there is more to the story than we know unless it would've been less. One theory, and I'm begging to believe it is Wade was supplying Grossman with the product.

JMO, but I would'nt keep him. He adds nothing to the team anymore, but an increased work load for Garrett.

why does this story sound fishy to me!!

I dont know, but Something just doesn't smell right to me about this whole situation, Wade Wilson has been around this league for twenty plus years, he has had access to the best doctors and information in the world on his condition, and having had Diebetes for twenty plus years, his knowledge on the subject should be very vast, so you're now telling everyone that you purchased these drugs for the purpose of bettering your own quality of life, drugs you had to purchase from another state, sorry if have a laugh at that position.

Wade Wilson isn't an active player in the league, so why would he be suspended for five games, where Rodney harrison has been suspended for only four games, Harrison's impact on a game is much greater than a Quarterback coach standing on the sideines. What coach in this league is subject to drug testing, I suspect, Zero. I truely believe Wilson was purchasing these items for players primarily, not himself. If he wanted a steriod, I'm sure his Family doctor or specialist in the field of Diabetes would of prescribed them for him if that was deemed to be helpfull with his condition.HG is designed for one purpose only, and thats NOT TO BE ABLE TO BE DETECTED in your system and enhance proformance.

Sorry, but I dont buy this half baked excuse which Wade Wilson is peddling, something smells fishy to me, almost as laughable as Driving home in the middle of the night to get ready for church service the next morning, we all remember that lame excuse, ofcource that investigation is still open, two shootings, no arrests,  right!!!

Its time for Wade Wilson to be fired for conduct detrimental to the team and the league and for the Jerry to send a message and not to fall back into his old ways of just dismissing things as being par for the cource, we've seen where that kind of leadership got us in the nineties. This is just the tip of the iceberg IMO on this issue, I suspect more suspensions will be announced in the next few weeks from ather players being namesd in this ongoing investigation.

I Agree It's Fishy

Especially that he mentions his diabetes in his statement.  I'm no doctor, but the wikipedia article on the subject mentions one of the side affects of HGH is diabetes.  His statement doesn't make any sense.

Saints cut Petitti

A lot of fans were apopoletic last year when Parcells cut him. Parcells was right. He usually was when it came to talent......

Like Rogers and Peterson?

Scouting Director

Larry Lacewell was the scouting director for that draft (his last one). If anyone deserves blame for the lack of tallent pre-Parcells, it is Larry Lacewell.

I think Rogers and Peterson was the reason Parcells ran Lacewell out of town, and hand picked Ireland to be the new scouting director.  That one move may have the biggest impact of any Bill made on the long term health of the Cowboys.

Actually I've Read

Parcells lobbied for picking Rogers and Peterman.  I know for a fact he mentioned in a press conference that he prefers offensive linemen from major college programs, hence his infatutation with the two guys above, along with Al Johnson.

I do agree with you on one thing, though, that promoting Jeff Ireland and firing Lacewell improved the flow of talent into the organization.  It will be interesting to observe how successful this and subsequent drafts will turn out.

Wade Wilson

He was caught thru his online ordering of the banned substances. I'd suspect that the NFL officials have a good idea, based the amount he ordered, whether it was for him or a number of people. If they couldn't prove it wasn't just for his own personal use, then 5 games seems appropriate. Set an example for others and all that.

Jerry Jones likes Wade W., but if the evidence against him was unable to be explained away, you probably would hear about his resignation, rather than an apology.

Certain Bears players might be breathing easier right now.

Michigan lost almost all of their best defensive

players to the NFL this year.

Wade Wilson

No reason not to take Wilson at his word that he got the stuff for his own use, decided it didn't help him, discontinued the use and didn't share it with anyone else.

No reason not to believe him.

Jerry surely must have given Wade the laser look and demanded to know the truth. He seems to be satisfied with what he heard. With Wade's history with the team and the league, why wouldn't you take the guy at his word?

Keep doing what you been doing, keep getting what you been getting.
