Dallas Cowboys article roundup

The loss of Jason Ferguson is discussed here and here.

An article on Wade Phillips that just doesn’t seem to make a real point.

The defense says their mistakes are correctable.

Tim Cowlishaw has his own take on the defense.

Things won’t be changing for JJ and MB3.

And T.O. says he was giving Gibril Wilson the "I’m #1 finger."

"I was showing him the No. 1 sign," said Owens, flashing his index finger to a reporter. "I told him to slo-o-ow down. I did the same thing when I had a long touchdown when I was in Philadelphia."

Player News
Dolphins DB Yeremiah Bell will miss the rest of the season with a torn left Achilles' tendon, a blow to an already thin secondary. Bell was hurt in the third quarter of Sunday's season-opening loss at Washington. "He had done everything to have a great year," coach Cam Cameron said Monday. "This is the tough part of the business."
(Updated 09/10/2007).

Sorry for Bell, but happy for us ;)

I found these bits interesting

"We knocked some of their guys out of the game," Phillips said. "I thought we were real physical, but we were over-aggressive at times by missing tackles instead of breaking down.

I did some checking and I'm pretty sure Roy Williams invented that move.

And is it just me or does this sound a lot like Parcells after the New Orleans game last year?

"We just made mistakes. A guy was supposed to drop in a curl and he rushed, and they hit the curl for 14 or 16 yards on third down one time. Things like that. We have to go back because we as coaches think they know everything we know and they've progressed as far as we think they have and maybe we haven't. So we may have to simplify certain things."

I say break out the Wunderlich Test for these guys...

Maybe the media can ask Roy Williams

oh, thats right, he's too busy bookin out the back door and hiding from doing interviews, and he's suppose to be the face of the franchise. Runnning and hiding, just like his game on the field!!!!!

I give Tony Romo alot of credit for standing there answering his questions about the seattle loss, and the botched fieldgoal. I certainly dont blame him for the loss, because our defense would of let Seattle march down the field anyway for a winning score.

wow! I better save this post, I think its a first.

The Rob Phillips article at DC.com

Am I just too willing to drink the koolaid or is that honestly reason to be hopeful that we can improve on Defense?

WP says maybe they (coaches) assumed too much in thinking the D had the whole complex defensive scheme down, and that we suffered from a lot of missed assignments, etc. Those are things you can fix by simply practicing on them in a focussed manner, and by simplifying what you do until your guys have absorbed everything.

Well

I do think they will improve. I mean, the worst teams in football don't give up 35 points a game. And there are some fixable things in there - missed assignments, bad tackling.

Plus
The defense will look a lot better after playing a few cruddy offenses the next few weeks. Trent Green/Chris Chambers and Rex Grossman/Mushin Muhammad are not quite as scarey as Eli/Plax.
At least I don't live in Philadelphia.

no doubt

NY played well above their heads offensively and we had some green youngins playing, so its to be expected. Thats why I predicted that we'd win in a shootout.

Obviously, our defense should look much better against lesser talented offensive teams in the next few weeks.

I don't think Chicago could move the ball on a junior varisty HS team.

I think Eli had a great game

but I don't like how Plax abused us.  Every big reciever in the league is going to be salivating when they play us unless we get this fixed.  The excuses are getting old and we need to get this D fixed now!!
