The Rat isn't talking

So Jay Ratliff comes from the Terry Glenn School of Media Relations. Which means you get a whole lot of nothing out him. Rob Phillips has an article about Ratliff and his impending start the nose tackle position, and I don’t think he actually has a Ratliff quote in it. The Rat isn’t talking. So DeMarcus Ware gave the contrast between Jason Ferguson and Jay Ratliff off the field.

"One is a jokester," outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware said of the 32-year-old Ferguson, "and Jay wants to grab and choke you."

Note to self, don’t write bad things about Ratliff.

Ratliff can get in the backfield with his quickness, but can he hold up against the run?

"His specialty is getting to the passer," inside linebacker Bradie James said. "He's definitely a better pass rusher on the defensive side of the ball that we have as far as defensive linemen. He's going to get to the passer, and one thing he has to work on is definitely the run. If you can't stop the run, there's no need to get to the passer because it's a long day. We have all the confidence in the world that Jay can step in and make some plays."

All eyes will be on Rat this Sunday. He isn’t going to tell us anything so we just have to watch.

This Mac Engel article about Ratliff actually has a recent quote from him in it.

"I don’t want to talk," he said Monday. "I just want to stay focused."

There’s your sound bite.

Meanwhile both the Engel article and this article from Todd Archer makes note of the fact that the Cowboys were/are considering Tank Johnson in Dallas.

As the Cowboys look to bolster their nose tackle position with Jason Ferguson out for the season with a torn right biceps, former Chicago Bears tackle Tank Johnson's name has come up, according to sources.

On Tuesday, Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones would not comment on the team's potential interest in Johnson, who is serving an eight-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, but acknowledged that any player's off-field behavior is discussed.

I guess what I'd like to know from Archer was this before they decided to go with Remi Ayodele and now they are not thinking about it? Or was Ayodele the plan for now, but they still are considering Johnson for down the road. Since the article mentions the signing of Remi Ayodele, Archer makes it sound like the Cowboys are still considering Johnson. Inquiring minds want to know.

Whether it’s Remi Ayodele or Tank Johnson or Reche Caldwell, the Cowboys have a list of players they would consider bringing to the Cowboys. Archer explains it all in this article.

Jason Garrett is getting much love here and here, and he deserves it. He called a great game Sunday night.

This is the best sports story of the day.

O Line

I don't think enough praise has been given to the Offensive Line yet.  Last year there were a mixture of inconsistency and mediocraty.  This last game they were fantastic. (Not without mistakes, but they moved the ball on the run and protected Romo on the pass).  JJ may end up on the HOF as a GM after getting LD and moving him to Guard. No one else saw that coming.  But that seems to be what this line needed.

Definitely the best sports story

I really hope that he maintains the use of his limbs. On ESPN, they had a blurb about the force Everitt took from the hit, approx. 2/3 of a ton of force down his spinal cord. Wow.

Been a Cowboy fan from 4 yrs old.

The Rat

sounds like he has a little Charles Haley in him.
I hate to see Fergie go, but the Rat has earned more playing time, especially when he puts up better numbers at NT than both our ends - no easy feat.
