Glenn has surgery, Ellis and Newman practice again
Good stuff from Nick Eatman. Terry Glenn had surgery today and hopes to return to the field this season.
There is a chance Terry Glenn could play for the Cowboys this season after all.
The wide receiver underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Thursday morning, a procedure that could allow him to return to field this year, team spokesman Rich Dalrymple announced during the team's practice at Valley Ranch.
And Newman and Ellis are practicing again today.
A day after returning to the practice field for the time in weeks, both Terence Newman and Greg Ellis were practicing again on Thursday with the team.
While the two players are still considered limited, there chances of playing either this week in Miami, or at least for the Sept. 23 game in Chicago seem to be increasing.
Newman again worked mostly with the scout team in the short window open to the media. The cornerback missed his first career game last week because of a partial tear in his plantar fascia in his right foot.
Ellis ran through individual drills with the linebackers, but is lining up with the first-team unit.
Hat tip to BTB-regular Philosopher for the link.

Wow
Ellis ran through individual drills with the linebackers, but is lining up with the first-team unit.
That's a lot of progress. He mentioned yesterday that the trainers had been experimenting with different tape jobs, so maybe that helped...

Go Greg!
In a cajun accent, "You can do it!"
Just to see him get out there in a game for a few plays would be a great sign.

Terry Glenn
sees this year as his last shot at a SB ring, and he wants to take the ride even if he has a limp for the rest of his life.
No guts, no glory.

I'm a little
surprised he went for the risky procedure, but just talking to some people in the medical field about this procedure he will be out for some time, many weeks in fact. JMO, go with Hurd the rest of the way. He will only improve as the weeks go by. If Terry can come back great, but I wouldn't rush getting him back because I think this offense would be just fine without him.
As far as Ellis, I wouldn't make too much of him getting reps with the first team. There is a HUGE difference between practice and being game shape ready and Ellis is no where nears to that.
Spencer is the horse from here on out fellows like it or not.

But when I read the article again
they said that the other procedure could leave him unable to ever play again. So I think either way he was facing a possible long-term disability. And if it's bad enough, he can replace a knee down the road.
I just hope it works out for him.

He saw the offense vs the Gints
And you know he thought, "I gotta get some of that!"
I figured he would. Don't worry about his knees, worry about his head. He's had serious concussions. Much greater risk, IMO. You can always opt for knee replacement after retirement. There's nothing that can be done about brain trauma.

May be worth it to Terry
His call.

Plus
If he can come back this season and be effective he could inspire the players to look beyond themselves and push this team to greatness. This is what championship stories are made of.

Crayton thinks we can average 35 pts game
The Cowboys are so confident in their abilities on offense that receiver Patrick Crayton thinks they can threaten the NFL record for points in a season of 556 set by the 1998 Vikings.
"If we have to outscore teams to win, we will do it," Crayton said. "I knew we could be pretty explosive. I told Bull (backup quarterback Brad Johnson) before the season I wanted to score 557 points. His Vikings set the record with 556. I told him I wanted to score 557. His eyes opened when I said it. But I am serious. I still am. We are off to a good start."

Easy Patrick
Get some serious production under your belt before you go spouting off like that...

I don't like the idea of our players...
...spouting off at the mouth about lofty goals after just one game.
That's one thing I did like about the Parcells regime. He rarely allowed the players and assistant coaches to talk to the media. And after reading Crayton's quotes, I can see why.
Talking like that just sets you up for a fall. And we know that injuries are the great equalizer in this game.
Now I could see if there were like four or five games left in the season, and we had amassed a boatload of points already... but come on, we've just played one freakin' game.
Don't get me wrong. I love our high-octane offense, and I want us to break that record.
But as a realist, I echo Deke's sentiments about "...tapping the brakes." Every opponent will not be the Giants this season.
In fact, week 2 brings a better defense in Miami. So Crayton and the rest of the Boyz need to stay grounded and focused and stop saying things like that to the media.
Even more important than the scoring record -- to me -- is the Super Bowl record for most total SB wins... SIX!!!
The 1998 Vikings, who hold the scoring record choked at home in the NFC Championship Game to Atlanta... who of course went on to lose to the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl that year.
I WANT OUR COWBOYS TO GET THAT SIXTH SUPER BOWL RING MORE THAN ANYTHING!!!

Not saying I like it
when players come out with comments like this, but this is something that Crayton said before the season started. So what I do like this that they came out in the first game and put up 45. To say I want to break the record in pre-season and to go out and be on your way after the first game tells me that the Boys had confidence in how good this offense is a long time ago, and gives me great hope that it was no fluke.
