Tank talk

Tim MacMahon reports this info from the Tank Johnson conference call.

He assured a concerned local reporter that he no longer owns any guns. He said he's learned that he has to be careful who he associates himself with, and he has a bluebook of things to steer clear of based on his experiences.

"Most important to me right now is that you have to understand that you're representing a great franchise, a great group of people who have faith in you," he said. "To have that type of environment where you know that people are pushing for you to succeed, you don't want to let those people down. I've been through that. It’s not a feeling I would wish on anybody."

ESPN has more:

"I know I'm not a risk," Johnson said. "I'm a highly intelligent person and I take pride in a lot of things I do in life. Like any other person, I'm going to make mistakes and I've made mistakes. I'm coming to Dallas to be a productive defensive lineman and really solidify what [team owner] Jerry Jones thinks of me."

"I think it's a great opportunity," Johnson said in a conference call from his home in Arizona. "As far as a last chance and all that stuff, I'm so focused on making this a great experience and being a Dallas Cowboy, I'm not really too wrapped up in what chance this is."

Johnson said the Cowboys "let me come in with open arms."

"They didn't talk about my background much," he said. "They talked about moving forward as a Cowboy."

"The 3-4 scheme is obviously one that's different than the one I ran in Chicago, but it's conducive to a player with my ability to get up the field and rush the passer," Johnson said. "I've played nose before and had success with it."

The Bears won on Sunday, but their fans aren’t satisfied. This article chronicles the fans meltdown on talk radio after the game.

In a way, you can't blame them. They gnawed their fingernails to the nub last season as Good Rex and Bad Rex made regular appearances, often during the same game. That's what they call quarterback Rex Grossman in this town: Good Rex ... Bad Rex. Good Rex throws touchdowns. Bad Rex throws screen passes off his back foot that float in the air longer than party balloons. Then they get intercepted and before you know it, Sam from Arlington Heights is saying the Bears QB is dumber than rocks.

They are only criticizing Rex

because he's German. It's completely unfair.

Sunday night will be memorable

from the standpoint that you're going to see one qb (Romo) who will take yet another step towards greatness in this league and another (Grossman) who will take another step into playing himself right out of the league.

The Cowboys got a bunch of INTs last week and I can't wait to see how many they'll get this Sunday.

I always like your predictions

but you're wearing my knuckles out on the desk here...

I think the Cowboys have a good shot at winning, but Chicago has a great defense, and you never know when an offense is going to come alive on you.

the only guy I'm worried about

Sunday night will be Mr. Hester, who if the Cowboys are smart will not be a factor if they kick away from him at all costs.

McBriar should be instructed to angle every punt out of bounds and Folk should pooch kick every kickoff at the 30. Their offense really stinks so who cares if they start at the 30 or 35 every time.

Bears are a solid team, but they're not as good as they were last season and their qb really sucks. I can't see them scoring enough points to beat us if Hester isn't a factor.

Berrian is a decent WR

He has the dropsies, but he's fast and seems to get open a lot. If we pressure (Spears and Canty, please show up) I agree we should shut down their O, and force Rex into some poor choices.

kicking

how difficult is it to 'pooch' kickoffs?  theoretically it could be like a long onside kick if you really get a lot of air under it but it seems to be a lot harder than just popping it straight up.

wonder how things would go with squibs...

and regarding kick coverage, who's our special teams ace?  no more fowler - Killer Davis?  hurd?

Yes but

just like "good rex, bad rex" we have been "good boys, bad boys" over the last couple of years and to win this game on sunday would go a long way to showing a mentally tough and consistent team.  To string three W's together to start off the season is a huge statement.

definitely

This is a must-win as far as I'm concerned.

But than again, all games are must win IMO.

Last Night, Adam Schefter on NFL Network...

...called us this year's New Orleans Saints at this point of the season.

Potent offense that'll have to outscore their opponents, much like NO did in the '06-'07 campaign.

I hope he's right with the "O" portion, but wrong with the "D."  I really want us to be like San Diego last year... especially their defense.

We've got to consistently put more pressure on each opposing QB and continue to force more turnovers... and the win against Miami in Week 2 was an improvement.

Hopefully we'll keep winning while buying extra time for GE and T-New to heal up.
