Terence Newman's status: hit rewind
Terence Newman’s status for the game.
In fact, in Thursday's press conference here at Valley Ranch, only three days before the Cowboys meet the Chicago Bears Sunday night at Solider Field, Phillips said, "He's doing better. I think he's close to being ready to play."
And while the team's starting left cornerback was listed on the injury report under the "limited practice" category, Phillips would not commit to suiting up Newman, still saying he will be "a game-time decision."
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Oliver Hoyte is a little nicked up.
The Cowboys are playing it safe with fullback Oliver Hoyte, who, according to Phillips, was banged up in the Miami game and have been holding him back a little in practice. Picking up the fullback slack has been rookie Deon Anderson. Hoyte, though, is not listed on the practice report. Phillips said he should be ready by Sunday.

Devin Hester challenges the Cowboys manhood to get them to kick him the ball.
"It's frustrating when guys kick it out of bounds and don't give me a chance," Hester said. "This is the NFL. It's the highest level of football. Kick it to me and play football. Don't be scared. When we face a great returner, we take it as an opportunity to see how good we are."
Nice try.

Please Please Please, McBriar...
Don't kick it anywhere near that man. Hester is the only reason the Bears score points. Well, Hester and that stupid offensive tackle.

true measuring stick are not the Bears
Like I said before, the Bears are a good, solid team, but I would be surprised if the Cowboys don't beat them this Sunday. The Bears simply have no offense at all.
The real measuring stick for this team will come in another 3 weeks when they host the jaggernaut known as the NE Patriots. That will be the game that will determine if this team is the real deal or not. If the Cowboys beat them or even play a close competitive game, then you can start making SB plans.
To me, beating the Bears will be nice, and it will probably even prove we're the best in the NFC, but if we want to win a 6th championship, we have to beat the best, and thats the Pats.
Patriots
I was telling my wife yesterday that I think Dallas will win every game on their schedule, that they can beat each team, not that they will beat all of them, but that I think they can...except the Patriots. Sad to say that is the game on our schedule right now that I think we will lose, I hope we win, I will still be disappointed if we lose, but unfortunately I think we will lose.
Wow, that really hurt to even write!
They are just
too good this year. If that Chargers game was any sort of "test", they passed it and then some.
There is something about this season though, the Cowboys dont play scared. If they play with confidence I think they can give the Patriots a lot of problems.
quote of the day
"[Romo's] got great pocket presence and is as greasy as a Tony Roma rib."
Harvey Fialkov, Sun-Sentinel, Fort Lauderdale
Hester
I would like nothing more than to kick the ball to Hester and then take his head off, but I'm not stupid. You don't throw a match at a bucket of gasoline and hope it doesn't explode. Don't put the ball anywhere near him. The dude is one big return away from having more return yards than Grossman has passing yards.
Madden on Romo
From the DMN Blog.
NBC's John Madden told reporters on a conference call today that he thinks Tony Romo looks like an elite quarterback. But Madden wants to see what Romo does against the Bears before breaking out the anointing oil.
"Tony Romo, right now, is on top of the heap as a quarterback," Madden said. "I mean, he's doing everything darn near perfectly, but when you play this Bears defense, believe me, this defense is for real and they don't give you anything. I think this game is a measuring stick for Tony Romo."
Thanks John, but please, whatever you do, don't put him the cover of your game.
Sunday's heroes
Fasano (one more time).
I think they will blanket T.O and Whitten, leaving room for Fasano to "sneak-attack" them and his strength is supposed to be finding open spaces.
JJ & MB3 (primarily receiving)
Nick Folk (nuff said!)
It's pick your poison
Do you want to blanket TO or Witten? Do you play the run or pass? (Cowboys are in the top 6 in NFL in rushing yardage) You still have Crayton and Hurd and Fasano as options, especially in the cover 2.
I think TO will have a big game as long as they protect Romo. After watching Gates make his living over the middle, I think the Bears D will blanket Witten and take their chances with TO. I just hope Romo and TO are on the same page from the 1st Q, this game.
And I had to laugh when I heard Hester's challenge. He won't get a returnable punt with McB's directional kicking skills. Sorry Devin.
