Open thread - Cowboys go 4-0 edition
OK, is Tony Romo a freaking magician or what? On that play where the ball was going over his head I kept thinking, "Just fall on it Tony. Don’t let them recover and don’t get hurt." Turns out Romo was thinking the same thing.
"Don't give up a touchdown," [Romo] said, "and don't get killed."
Good thing he didn’t listen to either of us. The guy is walking miracle waiting to happen.

Issac Bruce’s guarantee didn’t sit well with some of the Cowboys.
"I think the (Rams' defensive backs) hate that he made that statement," Crayton said of Bruce's comments. "Because they were the ones that had to pay for that. He didn't play against our offense. Their defense played against our offense. So they had to pay for what he said. I think you should always be careful for what you say when you go to another man's yard."
But leave it to T.O. to provide the best quote on that issue.
"Roger Goodell, you might want to get him drug tested," T.O. said, "because I don't know what he was thinking about."

Anthony Henry has a high ankle sprain, which is not good. Those things are tricky, but at least he wasn’t in a boot.
CB Anthony Henry has a high ankle sprain. No official timetable yet, but those are the nasty kind that tend to take a while to go away.
On the bright side, it wasn't so severe that Henry had to put a walking boot on his foot. He watched the second half in street clothes and regular, old shoes. He didn't appear to be limping as he walked off the field.

Feel free to use this as an open thread for comments on the Cowboys as they are 4-0 on the season. Also, use this as an open thread for the Sunday night game between the Giants and the Eagles.

I was completely annoyed...
Here in CT we got the Cowboys on the Hartford FOX affiliate - for three quarters, that is.
Whatshisface (Menafee?) comes on when the score's 35-7 and announces that they'll be cutting away to a more 'competitive' game - Packers and Vikings. Meh.
I felt a little better when I saw that the game ended and there wasn't any more scoring, but I would have liked a 4th quarter to sit and relish in our 4-0 record. Yeesh, thanks a lot FOX.
Wasn't following along with you guys online today, but I was smiling while scrolling through and reading the comments around when Romo had the ball snapped over his head. Freakin' a-mazing is all I can say about the guy. I can't believe he's ours.
Great game, and hopefully we don't look past Buffalo next week!

no kidding
And no cancer, either. I'm this close to actually buying his jersey.

Watching the High Snap
Sail over Romo's head, for some reason, I started laughing. With the ball bouncing further and further backwards, I thought, "Knowing Romo, no way he's gonna just fall on it, he'll try to pick it up and turn it into a miracle." Most times, I think he should have just fallen on it, but the man has a confidence that is out of this world.
That high snap
To add my thoughts upon seeing the wayward snap continuing to dance on to the goal line, once Tony controlled it I had the fear that he would throw it. Would we have linemen downfield after that time had elapsed and how could he possibly pick out a receiver? Tony is amazing...and he didn't need me to be anxious, jump out of my chair, and shout advice at the tv set afterall.
One of the disadvantages of watching by tv as opposed to being there is we don't see much of the line play or the lineman until they call his name on a penalty. However, it seems M. Spears is playing very well these last few games. I don't want to jinx him, but we've seen him and the annoucers have his called his name several times-- without the refs making those ugly hand signals about him.

Henry was playing well.
Get well soon!
I knew he would make something happen
when it went over his head, he always does. Just go back to the preseason game a year ago against the Vikings, he did the same exact thing, only that time he threw for a big first down.
The kid is the ultimate playmaker, just like his idol Favre, and even brett said Romo is his clone.
Jason Garrett
There is a serious discussion about Garrett being a hot prospect for a new head coaching job. I think that when Jerry brought him in he must have told him show me something that says you can coach this team and you will be the head coach in the near future. Remember when payton was offered the head coaching job after Dallas went 10-6 in the Tuna's 1st year as hc. Payton turned it down because it was for the freaking raiders. I hope that Garrett realizes that if he sticks with dallas Jerry will make him a very rich coach in the 09 season. Garrett will then be h c for the most prestigious teams in the league. I know it is too early to seriously discuss this but it is the first time I have heard the local and national media talk about it as a real possibility.
Head Coach
If I was Garrett and was offered a HC position, I would take it in a minute. He could have his cake and eat it too. He could get more money instantly and also write into his contract that if the HC position for the Cowboys comes up, he could get out of his current HC position.
This is not what I would want, however it is what I would do if I was him.
Holmgren had one
It allowed him to leave Green Bay early.
I also remember that Belichek has opt out clauses in his contract, do not remember what they were.
Maybe we can read something deeper into
TO's attitude this year. It takes some special chemistry to play for a championship. Maybe this lockeroom has that something special.
And I will go on the record and say that Wade is not just the keeper to someone else's team. He brings a balance that carries over to the players. They are having fun out there - something that had been missing under Parcells. That being said - without Parcells, we are not 4-0 this year.
Everyone is getting a lot of credit - except Wade. I have a feeling that is just the way he likes it. It is a little different from the massive ego that was Parcells.
Great job Wade, Garrett and Stuart.
Romo has figured out
what to do with a bobbled snap!
Giants / Phil
I am not sure who to pull for. I think the Cowboys match up better with the Giants (beat them 3 straight times).
With that in mind, I think I am pulling for the Giants as I want Philly out of the running by the time we meet them later on this year.
Giants continue to be impressive on offense. McNabb has reverted back to his first 2 game form.
they are better now than they were in week 1

or
the guy that got 6 sacks in today's game didn't play most of the game against the cowboys

its one thing to be a fan
but when you let it get in the way of good football conversation it gets a little annoying

Giants defense
How can you give the Giants defense credit when the Eagles are playing with half a team. No Westbrook, no LJ Smith, no starting left tackle. Should I go on. The Eagles starting LT today is Winston Justice. He is a human turnstile. Just awful, putrid, atrocious effort against Uminyiora today. Who is the Eagles offensive coordinator and why isn't he sliding over some help in that direction? And how many BS penalties are these refs calling against the Eagles tonight? That was not a personal facemask penalty in the 1st half; he didn't bring him down by pulling on it. It's like the Bears-Cowboys game all over again. 14 penalties so far. What worries me is the Giants next 4 opponents: Jets, 49ers, Falcons, Dolphins. That's why I was rooting for
McNabb & Co. tonight!

I can't ever root for the Iggles
Every fiber in my being wants to see them fail miserably and suffer hardships.
Don't fear the Gints, we've already got a game up on them, and did you see Lil Manning's performance, 2 steps backwards.
by APerfectStar on Sep 30, 2007 10:45 PM CDT up reply actions
I know EXACTLY how you feel Tom.
Absolutely, without a doubt, there is no team I despise more vehemently than the Iggles. It's not even close.
Here's hoping they suck even more as the season goes on and then scrub out hard on the draft!
Who would've thought that of all the QBs, Donovan McFlabb would be the one to tie the NFL record for getting sacked the most times in one game? I'm lovin it.
I texted my friend who is (sadly) and Iggles fan, and I told him now he knows what it was like having Bledsoe as a QB!

Speaking of Drafts
Dallas was excoriated after the 2006 draft for passing on Winston Justice and Max Jean Giles. We decided to take Pat McQuistan in the seventh round. Giles can't get on the field, and Justice looked like a statue. McQuistan has less experience playing tackle than does Justice, but he's looked pretty decent, and should only get better.
Yet one more example that instant draft grades are almost totally meaningless.
The Eagles fans I know always gloated over how immobile Bledsoe was, and how many sacks they were going to get against him. Now Donovan gets slammed a dozen times. Nothing more gratifying than watching loudmouths gag on their own words.
You are so right
I am not sure the Cowboys ought to ever draft a USC O-lineman. If you want to see irony click here. It is the NFL's official player page for Justice. Then play the video to the right. It is hilarious!
Yeah
I thought the Eagles played a lot worse than the Giants played well, if that makes sense. Giants left a lot of points on the field tonight.
I can't cheer for the Eagles either. Watching them lose is to much fun!!
by Philosopher on Sep 30, 2007 10:53 PM CDT up reply actions
I can't hate the Eagles
When I was growing up, they were one of the sad sack NFL teams. I just can't work up any bile over them.
Now the 49ers, them I hate. My hate for them goes back to the John Brodie days.
I've Yet to Find a Single Eagles Fan
Who objected to their fans' cheering of Michael Irvin's career-ending injury. When people behave like that over what is essentially entertainment, they've lost their humanity and moral bearings.
I think the football gods have punished them over the years for their boorish, militant and childish behavior with some of the most humiliating losses in NFL playoff history, so I think in the end it all evens out. Never underestimate the power of football karma.
And, Irvin got in the Hall of Fame on top of it all.
12 Sacks?!
Yikes.
McNabb's doing a spot-on David Carr impression.
