Mosley: Source says Terry Glenn is done for the season
Matt Mosley follows up on the mysterious disappearing story of Terry Glenn’s season-ending knee injury.
In the interest of clarity, Hashmarks has learned that the original version may have been more accurate. Late Thursday night, a member of the organization told me Glenn was indeed finished for the season, but that the Cowboys decided (a little too late) to hold off on making the announcement.
Mosley seems to be confirming the idea that Terry Glenn is out for the year. In addition, if it’s micro-fracture knee surgery that he needs, then not only could he be done for this year, but his career could be over. Glenn is a 33-year old receiver that depends a lot on his speed for his success. He also has great hands and runs nice routes, but coming back from that kind of surgery might be too much to overcome.
Hat tip to kingbillito who posted the Mosley link in the comments.

that would be a shame
especially since we just re-signed him to an extension.
Good thing we kept Austin, he and Hurd will have to be the guys.

Yeah I have all the confidence in the world
in Austin and Hurd. I especially Austin after the Minnesota game. He can make a big play after the catch and can stretch the field with his speed.
Hurd reminds me of a bigger Jerry Rice. He doesn't have that great timed speed, but he plays faster and is a great route runner with great hands.
And probably later in the year we'll get some glympses of Stanback. I think we are about to get a look at the future of our starting receiving corps. I think they are ready.

Sorry
to see Glenn go down so hard. Best wishes to him, but looks like the team has to move on.
Crayton, Hurd, Austin and Stanback give us good depth and, IMO, a bright future.

This Hurts
But we should haven't been betting on Glenn in the long haul. He has a long history of injuries, and that he was healthy for us in three of the four years he was with us has to be considered some good luck.
But his loss will be greater than I think many of us realize. No other receiver on our roster can stretch defenses like him, not Owens, Crayton, nobody. The threat he created allowed the other areas of the offense to flourish. Now the heat really falls on the speedier receivers like Austin and Stanback to develop.

If Glenn is really done
will we give him an injury settlement? Are we able to recoup any of the signing bonus we just gave him?

Witten
I already thought Jason was due for a big year, but now I'm positive he's going to be a HUGE part of this offense... Fasano too.

Right
and I think perhaps fewer shots down field. More underneath stuff, more patience.

agree
Dunkman,
I agree. I think that we will use whitten and Fasano more. I,m hoping Fasano will fly under the coverage radar and wind up catching 3-5 passes against the Giants. How many times have we had unexpected players "burn" us?

Right
plus an effective counter to blitzing is a three-step drop, which by the way is what I expect to see a lot of out of NY, at least in the early part of the game. That's what Houston did quite effectively in the preseason game.
It's not ideal to have Glenn out but at least there are other weapons available.

I think we have to assume that this is true
I believe Mosley here, it sounds like he really is done and they don't want it announced yet. Hopefully there is a legitimate ground here for alternative treatment, but we have to proceed as if he won't be here. What a freak injury.
I think we will be okay without him, and it may actually help that he hasn't been able to practice for a few weeks. It's obviously another big blow, but if the other guys can get healthy, we can deal.

TG
I hope TG being out for the year isn't true. For our sake and for his.
However, even though Hurd and Austin won't be as good as Glenn, maybe they can benefit from the element of urprise until either Gleen comes back or they turn into the weapons we hope they are.
We still have some good receivers to catch the football. (and run after catch)
I think we win Sunday night after all is said and done.

Stretching the field
I really don't think this will be an issue.
In precious few games this year will TO not be the fastest guy on the field. I don't believe the Giants, for instance, can run with him. And aside from him, Austin can fly and so can Stanback. WP apparently even thinks Crayton can get open deep (as he has done in the past, btw, as in the game winner in Washington a few back.)

stretching the field is a non issue
Like you said, T.O.'s presense will always be enough to keep any defense from playing 8 in the box. If we lose him, then we're in trouble, but until then, its all good.
