Cowboys assistants reach the deadline

Todd Bowles, Paul Pasualoni and Kacy Rodgers are expected to give their decisions today on whether to remain with the Cowboys or move on to Miami.

Sparano, hired last week as the Dolphins' head coach, has asked Pasqualoni to be his defensive coordinator. The Dolphins offered Bowles the position of assistant head coach/secondary and offered Rodgers the same position he held with the Cowboys.

Todd Archer takes a look at this year’s defense and does some comparison to last year’s defense. He also compares the 2007 defense to itself at different points in the season. While our defense did improve some this year over last year, it wasn’t quite the dramatic turnaround we were all hoping for before the season started.

The Senior Bowl practices start this week. If you’re not the Giants or the Patriots, your team is probably very interested in the proceedings. Here’s the Senior Bowl official site. Also, check out this diary for the schedule.

Sparano's revenge?

Do you think Sparano's at least a little spurred on in this hostile takeover of the Cowboy staff for being demoted last offseason??  I remember thinking he kind of got shafted last year when Garrett was hired, though I didn't mind and agreed with the hire...

Any way he can fire Wade next year AND hire him as our DC at the same time?  Might be our best option... haha

Oh sure...

because our defense played SO well the last month and in the playoffs... :P

Nope, no argument there!

but I did enjoy seeing the defense attack more.  It was great to see Ware unleashed to his potential along with the rest of the front seven.  They definitely had their problems, but I'd love to see how the defense would look with more of his personnel type playing as opposed to Parcell's, being that their versions of 3-4 were very different.  My understanding is Phillips needs stronger DB's to really have his system work...  Maybe the draft and FA market will improve things next year?

Wade couldn't install the entire defense...

Remember, for Wade to do his TRUE defense, it requires that the corners play man to man, and most if not all year they were not good enough to do that.  Add that into RW's coverage inadequacies, and I doubt he could have been very confident in his secondary.

I hear ya Pete,

but I personally think Wade is a good coordinator...he just can't lead a team the way a good HC is required to.

Coordinators are the coddlers, the "go-between" if you will between players and the HC.  Wade always has been and always will be the players' friend first and foremost.  Good relationships w/ players is obviously a good trait for a coordinator to have.

He's got good defensive schemes, too, that's been proven (except by the Boys this past December/January ;(  ).  All this adds up to a nice coordinator.

It's his inability to lead, however, that keeps him from being a good HC.  The fact he asks others to lead is a prime illustration of this inability.    IMO, leaders can't be friends with those they lead, it just can't work.  They can be friendly, but not friends in the real sense of the word.  Again, this is JMO.

I'd love to have Wade as our defensive coordinator, just not as our head coach.

looking forward to watching McKelvin

go up against division 1-A WRs and return some punts. If he turns out be a star this week, I see him as a mid 1st rd lock and a possible pick for us at 22.

How...

do you leave a team on the verge of a Super Bowl to go to one that just finished 1-15?

I realize that the potential reward is high, but man....that's going to be a lonnnnnnng road back to respectability for the Dolphins, even if you do have Parcells at the helm.

Dallas at least had a few pieces to the puzzle when Bill came on board..

Sparano wanted to become a "Made Man in Miami."

And with the Kingpin Tuna now head of the South Beach Operation, they can begin establishing the business down there.

Expect for them to whack a few unwanted pieces in training camp this summer.

Which pieces of the puzzle were here?

Parcells pretty much claened house.  Ellis, Adams and Williams are the only guys I can think of who were here before Parcells came on board.

BTW, Dave

misspelling in the headline.

Should be 'assistants', not 'assitants'.  :)

By the way...

Since most assistants are only signed to one (1) year deals, how about John Pagano for linebackers coach, and Wayne Nunnelly for D.Line coach.  They worked with Wade in SD., know the system, and have worked with some top defensive players.  This is assuming of course that we lose the three coaches.

I like the idea of raiding SD's staff

if we lose these guys.  The bolts defense played outstanding in the playoffs and the boys D could use some adjusting.
