Cowboys blurbs

The Cowboys were denied permission to talk to Falcons secondary coach Emmitt Thomas. That’s a shame because he is highly respected in NFL circles. The Falcons made the right move to keep him, but I wouldn’t have minded seeing him end up in Dallas.

Here’s some news on potential replacements.

Phillips said he is considering one or two college coaches for the positions.

Another potential secondary coach candidate Phillips indicated might be a possibility is Baltimore Ravens assistant Dennis Thurman, a former Cowboys defensive back from 1978-85. Thurman said he would love the opportunity to return to Dallas, but has not been contacted by the Cowboys and was in Mobile.

I guess the Cowboys are waiting to see what happens in Baltimore with their new coach before contacting Thurman. He's still under contract with the Ravens, but the new coach might want to bring in his own guys so Thurman’s future is unclear. And I have no idea about the college coaches that Phillips is considering.

As for a linebackers coach, the name John Pagano keeps coming up but no one has confirmed any interest or contact with him. Pagano is the linebackers coach in San Diego who worked with Phillips when he was over there.

The Star-T also has some free agent tidbits.

Cowboys running back Julius Jones is seeking a new start and will test free agency as he searches to become a featured back in another city.

Jones’ agent Ken Kremer, while attending the Senior Bowl workouts, said his client will field some "very strong offers’’ from teams once free agency begins Feb. 29.

In some ways, I’m kind of sad about this because after JJ’s rookie year I had such high hopes for the kid. But he never progressed from that point and it could be argued that he regressed. Good luck wherever you land, JJ.

Also, Flozell says he wants to stay with Dallas and end his career. But as always, his agent says that sounds good, but is keeping the door open to other teams.

"I wouldn’t rule anything out,’’ Adams’ agent Roosevelt Barnes said at the Senior Bowl. "But he definitely wants to stay.’’

We signed another player.

The Cowboys signed defensive tackle Junior Siavii to their reserve/future list. Siavii played with Kansas City from 2004-2005 after being a second-round pick by Kansas City in the 2004 NFL Draft (36th overall).

I hope he does well wherever he ends up. Sucks that it's not working out here anymore.

There are two Adrian Petersons, but there is only one Marion Barber.

WE NEED DMAC - COULD HAPPEN

We DO NOT need DMAC...IMO

We have Marion.  He is proven.  DMac has not yet proven himself on the professional level yet.

Does anyone else realise

That he hold TWO of the top 4 rushing games in team history? This isn't some scrub we are talking about...

Both were in his Rookie Year

Since then....nada.

Happens all the time.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small.

Teams can sign players

who weren't on an NFL roster at the end of the year and they don't count towards the roster until it expands to 80 players in the offseason.

Thanks

So are they like exclusive rights free agents?

Sort of

But mainly they are players without a job and are looking to sign with any NFL team that will have them. Many of them are cut again sometime over the offseason.

Siavii

Kinda seems like an unnecessary character risk. I remember a couple of stories of him getting into quite a bit of trouble in KC. Didn't he spit on cops once? I seem to remember a taser being used on him, but I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

That said, he's 6-5 and 330 with a little athleticism. For a flyer on a camp body, we could do worse.

I agree Grizz, it will be sad seeing JJ go

I still think the kid has enormous talent, he just needs to be in the right system, like the Broncos, to excel. I predict he'll be a very good feature back for some team, I just hope he doesn't hurt us someday in the future when he's playing against us.

Regarding Flozell, its great to hear he wants to come back. Sounds like unless some other team makes him a ridiculous offer, he'll finish his career as a Cowboys and that would be awesome. When he retires, Free should be more than ready.

Why the Broncos?
I could say A-Train would be a good back in Denver, only because it seems EVERY back that goes there does a great job.

Personally, I think Julius would do really well in a multiple-wideout, single-back system like Green Bay runs.

Oh well, best of luck Julius.

because of Denver's blocking scheme

one cut backs like JJ really excel in that system.

I wish him luck too

But I especially wish him luck in finding a starting job somewhere.  I'm not sure how many teams will be willing to give him starter money right now, though maybe they see him as a better fit for their system.  Most teams already have someone on their roster of equal or better quality to start.

Random predictions as to where JJ ends up:  Seattle?

Florence

Cowboys interested in AFC cornerback?

That's Drayton Florence of the San Diego Chargers. He's a free agent this offseason. Former 2nd round pick from Tuskegee. He's only 27 yrs. old, a former starter for the Chargers and has obvious ties to Wade and Brian Stewart

I thought this was a pretty funny take on the media in Dallas.

carry the load alone. We will still need a second back for the tandem.

Keep doing what you been doing, keep getting what you been getting.

Wade doesnt get to choose his coaches???

This was from Matt Mosley on his blog...

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks...

One other nugget that will interest Cowboys fans: I've been told by two different sources that Phillips wanted to hire former Chiefs offensive coordinator Mike Solari to coach the offensive line, but was trumped by owner Jerry Jones, who opted for Hudson Houck

----------------------------

I love Houck, but I think if Wade wanted Solari as his first candidate he should have been able to hire Solari.

And I do trust that Mosley is not BS'ing us here.

Go Cowboys!
