View from the Giants perspective

Behind enemy lines:

Eli is getting much love for winning a playoff game.

A good preview of the game. It mentions one of the critical areas that will help determine the game this Sunday.

It's critical that the Giants get a better pass rush, not easy against the Cowboys' mammoth offensive line, which features left tackle Flozell Adams and guard Leonard Davis. The Giants probably will need to blitz some, but they can't afford to constantly send extra rushers, lest Romo burn them by finding the open man if given enough time.

If we can get Strahan and Umenyeiora blocked, I like our chances.

The Giants are peddling the "Why not us?" theory.

Corey Webster stepped in for Sam Madison and had a big game.

OMG I am so scared of Strahan and Osi

They had a whole 1 sack in two games against us.  OMG what are we going to do?!?!?!

I love that!
There are two Adrian Petersons, but there is only one Marion Barber.

Mickey Q @ A on the Giants

Denny Tsettos, West Orange, N.J.:

I can't turn on any sports TV show or radio program without everyone saying that the Giants will crush the Cowboys. From all the shows on ESPN to Sirius NFL Radio, no one is giving the Cowboys any chance of winning this game. Please give me some hope other than to put on earmuffs until Sunday!

Mickey:

That would be a start. Funny how the NFL has turned into a "now" league. The Giants lose two of their final three games, and four of their final eight, but they go out and defeat an offensively-challenged team playing with no more than a backup running back, a quarterback who had thrown all of 13 touchdown passes all season and their best wide receiver trying to gamely play through a shoulder injury and suddenly they have turned their season around. If Terrell Owens is healthy enough to play, I think the Giants might be in for a little shock.

The Beast of the East is back!!!!

This is why sports writers

get such a bad reputation. They cannot stop writing even when there is no more to say:

The Giants probably will need to blitz some, but they can't afford to constantly send extra rushers, lest Romo burn them by finding the open man if given enough time.

Correct me if I am wrong but blitzing is intended to bring more rushers (at least on one side) than there are blockers, cutting down on the time to throw. The Blitz leaves an area open or a man uncovered or single coverage on a dangerous receiver so the phrase "if given enough time" makes no sense. The read of a blitz calls for a quick pass to the under covered or open receiver. If given enough time any quarterback can complete most passes.

It makes sense to me

in two ways. One, just becasue you blitz doesn't mean you're going to get there. We had lots of experience in that last year from our defense. So if you blitz, but the line/RB's pick it up, then they give the QB enough time to make them pay. So he's saying if NY blitzes, if Dallas can block it Romo will hurt them.

He could also be referring to Romo's ability to extend a play. If they blitz him, they can't let him scramble and extend the play, giving himself enough time to throw the pass.

It's not always just short hot-reads that can burn a defense when they blitz.
