Cowboys show interest in Zach Thomas plus other reading material
The Cowboys want to talk to recently cut Miami linebacker Zach Thomas. The DMN also has an article on the subject. It’s an interesting idea, before he was injured last year he was still a tackling machine. If the price is right, I could see this as a positive. I’ll have to think about it a little more though.

Nick Eatman says forget the draft, let’s talk free agents.

T.O. was the MVP at the NBA All-Star Weekend Celebrity Game. Did you guys see his jam on ESPN?
Hat tip to both jsams and eMBe3 for posting diaries on it.

Here’s a long article on the Cowboys. It appears it was written a little while ago because it mentions our interest in Dom Capers which is a dead story now. It also makes the same mistake of saying Dave Campo has no experience in the 3-4 so this must have been a Jerry Jones hiring. It's true that Campo has no experience in the 3-4 and that it possibly could have been a Jerry move, but coaching the secondary is no different in a 3-4 and a 4-3. I’ve seen three different articles make this same mistake so far. C’mon media, get it together.

Here’s a look at all NFC East teams. For some reason this guy thinks Ken Hamlin is leaving the Cowboys and that safety is our biggest need. Does he have some special information that we don’t? He also blows the franchise cost for Flozell which would be $9 million and not $7.5 million.

9 mill is the correct cap number to tag flo
its the greater of top 5 avg or 20% raise on previous year.

Zack Thomas
Throwing money at him is a waste of time b/c there was a reason he didn't play this season... post concussion syndrome... one hit and he's done

I don't think the Cowboys
Are just going to blindly throw money at him. The Cowboys are going to really delve into how motivated he will be to play this year as well as conduct extensive physicals to ensure he is ok to play. Thomas might even retire, but I can see him taking the chance to play for a minimum one year contract on a SB contending team.

He has to think
About his life after football... I'm saying this as an athletic trainer, I'm looking out for him...

Eatman is dead wrong here
Actually, Marc Colombo would probably move from right to left, but still, not even that is a sure thing.
Why distrupt two positions on the field when there only has to be a change in one. Keep the chemistry somewhat intact and replace Flozell with Free or Mcquistan.
Personally, because the Bears didn't put the franchise tag on Bernard Berrian, that's a guy I would look at for the Cowboys. Berrian can run. Flat-out speed. He's performed at a high level as Chicago's only true deep threat in an offense with incompetent quarterbacks attempting to get him the ball. With Terry Glenn's future up in the air, Berrian would be someone I'd have to consider.
I like his thinking here. Berrian is one of my choices.
However, what if Ken Hamlin doesn't get re-signed? What if the Cowboys lose him to another team? I'd say safety becomes a pretty high priority at that point.
Disagree here, because the starter would be on this team that being Pat Watkins.

our secondary will be in worse shape this season
if Watkins is starting, that would be disasterous. Watkins is a great special teams player and solid backup, but he's no starter.

I think many will disagree with you
Watkins has improved alot since his rookie year.
Watkins will be a starter, especailly if we resign Hamlin.
Roy has one more season here and will be released.
Projected starting safties in 2009:
SS Hamlin
FS Watkins

I am at the point
where I would like to see watkins replace roy. Maybe things get worse but we know what a liability we have with Roy and some players respond well to starting. Watkins needs some playing time to see what we have.

well a lot of people disagreed with me
regarding Romo as well. We'll see what happens, but I don't see Watkins playing as well or better than Hamlin, improved or not.
