Agreed, smart move.
Now if we could only get Williams to LB somehow...if they're thinking of bringing in Fred Flintstone (Z. Thomas), you'd think they would consider moving Williams into that slot as an option, too.
I don't see why we're in such a rush to move Ayodele in the first place, though. I just wish we'd get Williams outta that secondary. It's time for Watkins to step in there...As long as Watkins knows what he's supposed to do (that's a HUGE question, I know), I'd feel comfortable with him and Hamlin patrolling the deep halves and supporting the run when needed.
Good move but.
Good move but this makes me think more and more that Flo is gonna be gone.
Im already having nightmares about Leonard Davis moving over to left tackle and becoming a human turnstyle again.

Davis wont be moved to tackle
Im glad you know Deke.
Im glad you are smart enough to know that Stewart is going high. Spag's was on the website talkin about trading down to get him.

They wouldn't move Davis
It would be Free or McQ, if Flo is gone.

I disagree
I'm thinking this move allows the team to focus on negotiations with Flo's agent. If they really didn't want Flo back, they would have been working on a deal with Hamlin instead of franchising him and just letting Flo go.
Cowboys know Flo is an elite LT and want him back at the right price.
The Right Price
I have a feeling that the Cowboy's opinion of The Right Price and Flo's opinion are about $3M/year apart. Up until now, those were the only two opinions that mattered. On March first there are going to be 31 other opinions of what The Right Price is, and some of them are likely to be considerably higher than the Cowboy's opinion.
Given what guards were commanding on the free agent market last season as well as the strong salary cap position most teams are in, I can't see Flo coming back to Dallas for a contract in the neighborhood of $5M/year or signing a contract for 1-2 years. This is his last shot at the big money, and the odds say he's going to cash that check.
Love the Hamlin franchising though. Now let’s get the next most important step done: a first and third round tender on Chris Canty. The guy is ready to be a dominate lineman over the next five years.
BTW, you have commented that Dallas is in active negotiations with Flo's agent. I missed that being reported. Got a link or two where I can read an article on it? I find this topic quite interesting.

On the money Louie
Just as Davis got crazy money last year, it'll be more of the same for Flo. I hate this part of the business because you really want the continuity.
Ham was a good move. Clearly they don't think Watkins is ready (and who knows, he may never be) and Williams is in no way the answer as the QB in the secondary.
the main link
is a paid site called ranchreport.com that I can't give, but here is another link . Its the last 2 sentences of the article.
Money saved on Flo...Sign Randy Moss !!!!!!!!

What the heck, maybe a trade for Chad too
The TO, Randy and Ocho Stinco Show
We could corner the market on Diva's
Just think, da King could've drafted Randy Moss!!
and to think...He can make up for it right now.
by signing him away from the Pats...
It would rate as the best WR duo of all time.
We are looking for a player to stretch the field opposite TO right ??? No better all time than Randy Moss.

That would be insane
No way T.O. and Moss could co-exist on the same team. Poor Tony Romos head would explode from all the constant whining about getting the ball.

but NE can afford him ?...
they have less cap space than us.

Pats don't have another high priced WR
like we do. You have to understand boyz, you're dealing with a salary cap, this isn't MLB. A team can only afford to put so much money in one position. You can't have all-pros at every position.
umm...Pat's don't have any receivers...
no Moss, no Stallworth, no Washington, no Gafney..... btw...I wasn't being serious about Moss coming here...unless he signed for 4-5 mil...

and thats exactly why the Pats can afford him
and we couldn't. They are letting Stallworth and Gaffney walk, so the only WR they currently have under contract now is Welker. They will have plenty of money to pay Moss.
We on the other hand have T.O., Glenn and Crayton under contract, we don't have the money to add another high priced WR like Moss, even if he only signed for 4-5 mil.
not a worry
Moss will be resigned by the Pats next week, maybe even Stallworth, just because they weren't franchised, it doesn't mean they're hitting the open market next week.
The cowboys are close to getting up against the cap as it is, I dont see any trades for a Corner. We'd be lucky to resign Flozell at this point, we have around 10 million of cap space. We are already talking about restructuring Romo's contract, and we have big contracts coming up over the next couple of years in Ware and Newman, WE CANT AFFORD ALL THESE PLAYERS YOU MENTION UNDER THE CAP,(Faneca,Williams,Flozell,Hall).
I wonder how many accumlative yards Flo
gave up in penalties last year; and how many drives did it kill?
Probably not as bad as 2006.
Also think about
When he totally shut down some of the best pass rushers in the NFL this year. Osi, Trent Cole, Jason Taylor...that's just off the top of my head.
I'll trade some of those penalties to keep our franchise on his feet.
I don't disagree with you about his value as
a pass blocker. But, does he deserve the franchise tag?
if the franchise tag
didn't inhibit our ability to pay other players this offseason, then flo would definitely be worth it in my mind.
I know the line didn't play great in the playoffs, but they were quite possibly the best pass blocking oline in the league last season during the regular season. And they were led by flozell, who absolutely shut down some of the best pass rushing ends in the league.
Heck, we seemed to convert 1st downs on most of those penalties anyway.

Hell Yea!
This is great move for us. Haven't skimmed through all the responses just yet, but what will it cost us for a safety? It can't be too much. Well worth it to keep Hamlin long enough to lock him into a long term contract!!
franchise for safety is like 4.4 Million..
not bad at all...give Hamlin a 5 year/23 million contract..
