Dom Capers hired in New England
The DMN reports Dom Capers has been hired by New England to be their secondary coach.
The Patriots announced today that they've hired Dom Capers as their secondary coach, replacing the deposed Joel Collier.
It was speculated that Capers might not accept a job as a position coach and that he would not fit in Dallas. Obviously Capers was truthful when he said he would not take the job if it made Brian Stewart uncomfortable.
Stewart better have his defense playing out of their minds this year after keeping one of the greatest 3-4 innovators from coming to Dallas.
Hat tip to Deke for first posting in his diary, here

The Dallas Cowboys franchised Ken Hamlin today just as I believed they should. The Star-Telegram reports:
The franchise tag on Hamlin is a one-year deal worth about $4.4 million. This is the first time the Cowboys have used the franchise tag since 2002, when they applied it to left tackle Flozell Adams.
This is economically sound and lets the Cowboys keep a Pro Bowl safety without breaking the bank. The team now has all year to work out a long term deal with Hamlin. The remaining cap room will allow the team to sign its other free agents but it seems that Flozell Adams will not be a part of that group. The two sides might agree on a deal but his asking price may be too high; if so I see Adams ending up with a team desperate for a tackle of his skill and willing to pay the contract he is seeking. On the other hand the Cowboys franchising Hamlin could mean they believe they can work out a deal for less than the $9 Million price franchising Flozell would have cost them.

The DMN reports that Zach Thomas may not wait until next week to meet with the Cowboys.
But because of overwhelming demand for his client, Rosenhaus said that Thomas may make his way here to Indy, where he can meet with multiple teams, in which case the Dallas meeting might get moved up and held at the combine to save everyone the trouble.
The interest in Thomas continues to grow and that could mean his chances of ending up in Dallas are slim. If teams get into a mini bidding war over Thomas Dallas should bow out quickly as the price he would garner would be too high for a position the Cowboys already have relative depth at.

Brandon, I need to ask
if the Cowboys and Flo reach an agreement, why would he end up with another team? That doesn't make sense to me as its been reported Flo wants to finish his career in Dallas.

Flozell may want to end his career in dallas
but if a team like the bears offer a five year deal with a 20 million dollar signing bonus, Dallas isn't going to match that, so Flozell will have to make the decision to take the money or stay in dallas for alot less, which he wont, money talks, there isn't alot of loyalty when you're talking money.

If the Cowboys and Flo come to a deal
Then obviously he is staying with Dallas.
But it has been reported that Dallas may let Flo test free agency. DMN story here.
I think the Cowboys believe that Flo is very important to keep but I think they looked at what would be cheaper: Franchising Flozell or signing him? On the open market, Flozell most likely will not get more than 9 mil a year.
The Cowboys franchising Hamlin could mean that the Cowboys think they can work out a deal with Flo. But if Flo can get more in free agency than Dallas is willing to pay, he may jet for the big money.
Thats what I was getting at.

yeah, but thats if they cant come to an agreement
If they agree on a contract, they sign Flo immediately. If they can't, then they allow him to test the free agent market, and knowing Jerry, he has a deal with his agent which will allow us to match it if we want. If its too expensive, then we won't.

Thats a pretty good assumption
I think the Cowboys are interested to see what Flo is worth.

overwhelming demand!!!
I find that highly unlikely, sounds like alot of Rosenhaus noise trying to generate some interest in his client to drive up the price. There isn't going to be alot of interest in his client, Zack Thomas is 35 and coming off a serious head injury, he'll be very susceptible to concussions in the future as you really never heal from a serious concussion, infact you become more susceptible to more serious concussions, especially as a linebacker. If he signs with a team, I think it will be more along the lines of a one or two year deal at the league veteran minimum with a performance bonus.

he already has two offers....obviously
someone knows something about his abilities...After thinking about it...I'd pass on him, unless he comes cheap(under 2mm/per), and he doesn't expect to be a starter...My odds are on New Orleans being the team that will pay him and start him.

However
is New Orleans the contender he wants to play for. Obviously they have the potential since the played in the NFC title game two years ago, but their fall this year would put it in question for me if they are an actual contender. I think he goes to a team that has a legitimate shot at a ring this year and money is not an issue.

they add a LB and a stud CB...and YES
maybe a few pass rushers, 2 LBs'...and some secondary help....
they certainly are a contender....

Totally agree about Zach Thomas
We have depth and really don't need him
