Eddie Royal
Eddie Royal may be a solid value pick for that playmaker that JJ is looking for. I happen to be from the same high school as Eddie Royal's high school - Westfield High School in Chantilly, VA. My son's HS football career and Royal's overlapped by two years, so I saw most of his games in high school and a lot of his games at VA Tech. His High School QB was current Virginia Tech QB, Sean Glennon. The scoop on Eddie Royal: 1) very strong for a wide out (thick core)and runs through tackles; 2) very good football smarts; 3)elusive punt returner; 4)durable and very seldom was injured; 5)great character - never got into trouble; 6)deceptively quick and can make the deep catch over the shoulder. If we go RB/CB/? in Round One/Two, Royal would be a great Wideout/Punt Returner "playmaker" catch in Round Three or even Four.

After seeing him today, I'd be happy if
we drafted him in the middle rounds. The kid looks like he can play.

Terry this kid is the real deal
I live 15 miles from Va Tech campus and have seen alot from eddie royal the last 4 years.I'd be really happy to see us pick him up in the mid rounds.I knew he'd have a good combine and I look for him to move up on alot of peoples draft boards.
BTW Va tech has quite a few players that look really good,Royal,Brandon flowers,DE Adibi and Barry Booker a defensive tackle who's projected as a second day pick,He's from my hometown and I went to school with his dad(damn i'm getting old).

Mayock has Flowers has the best CB in the draft
says although he doesn't have blazing speed, he's extremely physical in the Ty Law mold.

He Is!
He's very physical and will make somebody a Great DB!

I'm a little weary of that pick because...
Mayock also had V-Tech DB Jimmy Williams ranked early as his #1 CB a couple of years ago. Williams dropped to the second round and has been a disappointment in Atlanta, even after they moved him to safety.

yeah williams has been
a disappointment, but Deangelo hall came out of the same system, and flowers and Macho harris both were projected as 1st rounders(although macho decided to go back for his senior season)

not sold on him...although I didn't watch VT much
so I may be wrong....I prefer blazing speed over physicality every time... who would you take ??...A Henry or T Newman ?...ok..i rest my case.
.i'm not basing anything on Mayock, never did actually..... He had Notre Dame TE #1 also...what he do ?...ran a 4.9 40 and out of the first round for him....next

While your paint is not totally lost on me
Would you rather have J. Reeves or Anthony Henry?

15 miles from Blacksburg
True Blue - glad to know I am not the only Cowboy fan in Virginia! Having seen a lot of Westfield High School (Royal & Glennon) and VaTech games, I am with you on Royal, but respectively disagree with Mayock's opinion on Brandon Flowers. He is physical similar to Anthony Henry, but I don't think he possesses nearly the athletic ability that either Leodis or DRC (Cromartie) has. In fact, I think DRC is gone by the time our pick comes around.

I agree
that flowers probably isn't as good as leodis or DCR I just hope we can get a quality cover corner in the 1st.
Yeah,we've got quite a few cowboys fans here in southwest va.
My high school has produced the last two AA champs(amherst county) and have two prospects that signed with Va Tech(peter rose and derrick mccoy)as well as booker and David pugh who signed with the colts a few years ago(he went to tech as well along with Jake Grove, center for the Raiders)
Good to have another virginia cowboy on board!

He was my pet cat from today. Very nice showing.

Absolutely...
Right now I have DeSean Jackson going in the top half of the second round and Royal going in the mid to late 3rd round.
Jackson's value has dropped a bit because of his 169# weigh-in, while Royal appears to have helped himself with a solid combine.
I love both these guys. I think they both would help us immediately in the return game and also in the slot between TO and Crayton.
I know both these guys are less than ideal size for a wide-out, but it is always amazing to me how quickly scouts forget that Marvin Harrison was only 175# coming out of Syracuse and Steve Smith was just 184# coming out of Utah.

very good assessment Fargo...totally agree...
Once again...If and when we trade for D Hall-CB...I'd have no problem trading out of #28 to early 2nd round, then grab D Jackson-WR/PR....I have no doubt in my mind, he'll be playing closer to 185lbs, by the end of '08 early '09 season..He's never been a gym rat....NFL.....They Pump U UP...In a few years I see him being a faster Marvin Harrison.
In the meantime...he'll be fighting D Hester for Pro Bowl votes at PR.
You can not teach 4.31 speed !!!!!!!!

4.39 in the 40 is blazin'
I'd be ecstatic if we drafted Eddie Royal...
Great title for this post, SaratogaMan,
"Eddie Royal: Great value pick for Playmaker Role."
He may night fly under the radar for too long, however. He'd be the type of player that a team could design plays for -- in addition to his returning punts/kicks.
Just get the ball in his hands and let him fly...

Not sure how I feel about a 5'10" WR...
I thought DeSean Jackson was short but Jackson is 6' and taller than Royal.
by albyman32 on Feb 25, 2008 5:17 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
actually at the combine....D Jax....
was measured in at 5'10 3/8th....but your right, I'd prefer at least 6'0" myself...but hey....Steve Smith-WR-Carolina has shown me that doesn't mean much.

how do you feel about Welker? he's 5-9
by Terry on Feb 25, 2008 7:26 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I love Welker...one of my favorites...
I said I prefer a taller guy, but if you have a 37" verticle at 5'10"...height no longer equates...
I'd take Wes Welker, Steve Smith in a heartbeat, as well as Marvin Harrison,
I wouldn't be opposed to taking a shot at Royal if he's there in round 3.
