Cowboys cut Oliver Hoyte

According to the DMN blog, the Cowboys cut FB Oliver Hoyte.

The Cowboys announced the signing of Zach Thomas today, and the ouster of FB Oliver Hoyte...

Hoyte started 14 of his 24 games as a Cowboy, but in this day and age, the need to have two fullbacks on the roster just isn't there anymore.

No surprise, I predicted this when I reviewed the fullbacks earlier in the offseason.

I saw this happening for sure....

I am not into carrying only one FB though, an unproven one at that....but if it meant carrying an extra QB instead, i'd agree..

True Cowboys diehard since 1975.

no surprise on Hoyte

limited ability and having an issue wth his neck as a fullback, pretty much a given he wasn't coming back.

Trade up a few spots to get ahead of Houston and draft Jonathan Stewart, thee best all around Back in the draft.

Hopefully Lorenzo Neal

is fully recovered from his injury and we sign him!  That would be an killer twosome in the backfield.

If healthy, is still best blocker in the biz IMO and can even catch a few outta the backfield.

For U, Starred...

The expected happened Thursday, as the Chargers released fullback Lorenzo Neal and free safety Marlon McCree.

In a somewhat surprising move, offensive tackle Shane Olivea was released as well.

"They want to start somewhere else," general manager A.J. Smith said at a news conference. "They want an opportunity, and I understand that."

Neal, a three-time Pro Bowler in his five seasons in San Diego, had been on the trading block for a week. There were no takers, and the 37-year old he was let go with three seasons remaining on his contract.

McCree, who will be replaced in the starting lineup by Eric Weddle, had been expected to released for some time as well. He also was signed through 2010.

It was thought that Olivea, who lost his starting job at right tackle midseason and fell out of favor with the coaching staff over his work ethic and commitment, would be given another year to get back in the good standing and perhaps earn back his job.
