I'm not used to this
The Cowboys being so still and quiet during FA. It's almost as if Scott Pioli or Bill Polian have possessed Jerry Jones.

This is one step closer for Felix Jones to be ..
at pick #22.....wooo hooo..
but it also assures us that Tampa will be looking to take Mike Jenkins at CB....They are in love with this home town kid.
Felix Jones > Mike Jenkins...
every day , all day.

I wouldn't be so sure. . .

agreed
I didn't think Dunn was a good fit anyway. I'm happy he signed with the Bucs. That paves the way for Felix Jones. I saw that Kyper has us taking Flowers at the 28th pick now.

Kiper was saying we're takin WR Thomas 2 days ago
he's all over the place...Kiper is only good on draft day, AFTER the picks that he didn't predict are taken...he's got great insite....but couldn't pick his way out of a paper bag.

On the ESPN Ticker
they have us with Flowers now. He has climbed the charts the last week. Probably the most likely choice since all the others will be gone.

Man
$3 million/year to Dunn? We're paying less than that for MB3. Consider this the offseason where contracts officially went out of control. This is not good for teams like ours, sadly.
Yep
Tampa Bay has cap room to burn.
by APerfectStar on Mar 10, 2008 6:22 PM CDT up reply actions
yeah
tampa has more cap space than abe lincoln!
it sure isn't......i don't see any of our RFA's
MBIII 7+mil/per in '09
Canty 5+ mil/per in '09
Hamlin 7+ mil/per in '09
TNewman 8+ mil/per in '09
Columbo 6+ mil/per in '09
Owens 9+ mil/per in '09
all but gone next spring.
who stays and who goes ??? input please.

I think Ham is gone, sadly
He has become overvalued. He was good last year and it was refreshing to have a contributing FS again, but he's not worth anywhere near 7 million. I think MB3 might be gone with demands like that, too; this team will very likely draft a first round RB this year and can't afford to pay 11 or 12 million dollars to a RB rotation.
Of course, the numbers are all speculative. But if the market continues to be ridiculously silly, I think your estimates are on-line, Boyz. Which is why talk of trading for Hall, or The Good Roy, is folly. We need to kee our draft picks, and if possible, trade for more. There's no other way to stay below the cap.

Keep in mind
that these guys already have contracts, so it's not like we need to sign them all with our existing lack of cap space. There will also be restructurings for almost all of our big contracts that are re-workable, I imagine. Of this list, I think Hamlin is the most likely to go, followed by Columbo. It's too early to tell for Canty and MB3; they both need to continue improving to be worth those amounts, but they both likely will do so. Newman and Owens present the same tricky scenario: aging, elite player at a premium position. I have a feeling we keep them both. I only see us losing 2-3 guys off of that list, but anything can happen in a year.
But just like the Patriots
the boys are an elite team and these players have to decide if they want to cash in and play for a loser or still be well paid with a chance at a SB ring. If a player's only concern is $$, oakland will sign them and they can go 4-12.
here's my take
Newman-gone
Columbo-gone, Free or Mcquistan will be the new RT in 2009.
Canty-gone, unless he has a break out year
MB3- I'm 50/50. I will have a better feeling after the draft. Jerry won't over pay regardless.
Hamlin-stays

?
MBIII, I think will be back, but that is without knowing how the draft will play out
Canty, probably gone, unless he is franchised
Hamlin, gone
Newman, franchised most likely, defenintly wants to get the big paycheck seeing as he is nearing that age and is still making little for his playing
Columbo, gone but I think hes replaceable
Owens, stays, he brings too much media and has 3-4 more very good years left in him for Jerry to let go.
I doubt Newman will be franchised since the tag
will be over 10 mil and given his age. If we land Pac Man I really don't see it happening.
I think Hamlin will be the first long term deal done next year because he still has many years ahead of him unlike Newman. It's going to be one or the other, but not both. IMO, Hamlin is a more important resign next year than Newman.

BTW
we won't be able to afford a 10 mil franchise tag next season so that's not happening.

Smart move
Jerry needed to guarantee the RB position in case the Barbarian gets hurt. A first rounder is no guarantee. He waited to see if Julius might come back as a back-up. Julius didn't. Signed a solid vet instead. Now he'll draft a back sometime around the 3rd round or later. Sounds like Jerry took notes when the Tuna was here.
LMAO....."e"....I was thinkin'...HUH ??????
More like DUMB move Jerry for not starting MBIII earlier last year, extending him during the season..then we wouldn't have to shell out over 7 million/per to keep him....dumb dumb move....
unless he had DMac on his mind the whole season.

Nice
I hope he throws a sweaty shirt in Gruden's face. LOL

If we want to implement the screen...
Also, somehow, I've found myself to be a fan of Chris Brown. I know turf toe isn't the manliest of injuries, but he had great potential. I wonder if he would do well sharing carries and thriving under less pressure.
