Falcons land Michael Turner
I know there was some speculation about us maybe going after this guy. After all, he was said to be the best FA RB this year. Anyway, he's off the market now. Tatum Bell is still an option, and the the draft is deep at RB so maybe it was all for the best.
Michael Turner, who has been the Chargers' insurance policy for LaDainian Tomlinson, agreed to a six-year, $34.5 million contract with the Falcons, with $15 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN.com's Michael Smith.

That's still important to Dallas
Now there is a reference point to look at when re-signing MB3. That's a hefty looking contract, too.
Yikes!

You don't need a Link to figure that

This article talks about how Long is a Parcells guy. It doesn't really offer any textual evidence from the Tuna himself. Maybe you'll like this Longhorn.

Makes the most sense because
didn't he play in a 3-4 system at Virgina?? He is the perfect fit for Parcells. They need DEs in that defense.

by Terry on Mar 2, 2008 3:55 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs

he has the Groh connection.
That writer for Yahoo sports was just on Serius Radio and said that rumor of Jason Taylor being released, or traded is absolutely true. He said he was working on that story for 10 days through multiple sources.
He said don't believe what Parcells says because he loves playing the media. Many around the league don't believe a lot of what Parcells says according to him. He said just ask Arthur Blank and other organizations around the league that he stiffed.
Parcells told him that he would take the job and five hours later he accepts the Miami job.
I will agree with him that you can't believe a lot of Parcells says. This might be a case where someone leaked the information and Parcells is trying to clean it up. It doesn't appear that Taylor fits his plans on defense which makes the rumor somewhat plausable.
If it's going to happen it probably will around draft time.

Taylor is a perfect fit for the Dolphins 3-4...
He has played some OLB in the past and he will be pass rusher.
He's got a couple of years remaining on his contract and he's worth every penny (to the Dolphins or another team). If he's not in Miami next season he will be a) retired, or b) traded.

I agree Fargo...Tuna's a dope...
but he ain't stupid...
Lawrence Taylor, Willie MaGinest, John Abrahams, DeMarcus Ware...are the reason Tuna is what he is today....you don't get rid of elite pass rushers...
Unless he gets overwhelmed with a high compensation package....forget him ever getting "cut"...He was 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.....for pete's sake....I'd trade Ellis, Ayodele, and Spears for him right now.

Chris Long is going to be the
#1 player selected in the draft. It's as good as gold.
They were talking the other day Parcells could throw out some rumors that they are interested in Ryan so they could get a team to move up to the #1 spot.
Many people believe that Parcells has no intentions of drafting a rookie QB. Great strategy on his part, because Miami wants no part of the #1 pick.

Dunn will be cut, Gay signed with Saints & Notes
Saints | Gay reportedly agrees to four-year contract
ESPN.com reports free-agent CB Randall Gay(Patriots) has reportedly agreed to a four-year contract worth up to $17.8 million with the New Orleans Saints, according to NFL.com and the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The Times-Picayune reports the deal is worth about $6.7 million in salary and bonuses over the first two years, with a chance to go up to $9 million based on playing time.
Not a bad contract for him.
Falcons | Dunn will likely be released
Sun, 2 Mar 2008 12:52:31 -0800
John Murphy, of Yahoo Sports, reports Atlanta Falcons RB Warrick Dunn will likely be released Monday, March 3, in order to help clear space under the team's salary cap.
Turner Contract:
The deal includes $15 million of guaranteed money and is expected to be worth over $34 million in total.

NO tabs CB in FA...music to my ears.......
that is the real sweet news here....This would no doubt knock NO out of the DRC & McKelvin sweepstakes....wooo hooo...i sure wish two other teams had taken Samuels and Florence though...
NO
Houston
Detroit
all picked up new CB's.....sweeeet
that still leaves possible canidates to land CB's :
NE - or OLB
Baltimore - or QB
Cincy - or RB,OL,DE,DT,LB
Buffalo - or WR
Arizona - or RB
Washington- or DE
by BoyzRback07 on Mar 2, 2008 4:37 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
why?
If Philly is signing a big name FA CB then obviously they would have been seeking a CB in the draft as well since its obvious that they feel its a need for them.
Philly signing Samuel is good for us cause thats one team not looking at DRC in the draft.
by Terry on Mar 2, 2008 4:41 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
that would have been more inclined to draft a WR.
Philly needs a playmaking WR, and i'm positive they'll draft one in round 1 .... By signing Samuels takes care of their long term goals..(Sheldon Brown to safety, Samuels taking over at CB)...they certainly weren't desperate for CB's....they have the cap space to make play on the top CB available....they needed more playmaking ability out of their secondary, which only accounted for 9 interceptions last season. Samuels brings that...They also addressed their other need of a pass rushing DE by taking Clemons from Oakland...Philly gets an "A" so far in offseason moves. They go into the draft with little or no needs...
by BoyzRback07 on Mar 2, 2008 4:57 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I sure hope they draft a WR in 1st rd

philly drafted
2 DB's a few years ago despite no apparent need. they frequently surprise people with their picks. i think its tough to count them out.
now BRB07 when you say you are positive philly will draft a WR in the first do you have some edge here or are you just guessing?
by 325424 on Mar 3, 2008 8:29 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
well...325424..i can't etch it stone...but...
not like i propose you go by every mock draft that you see....but if you did, you'd realize practically every one does have Philly taking a WR...and if they didn't....they will shortly...pre-free agency...their most clearing needs were at pass rushing DE, playmaking CB, and a playmaking WR....
ok...they just signed:
Clemons-DE
Samuels-CB
next ? -WR
btw...McNabb has publicly begged for a difference maker on offense, even posted it on his own blog site..hence the 10 mil/per offer to Randy Moss...well..we know that didn't happen..
I can't guarantee, seeing there is no way of me knowing who might go WR before Philly...but i'll throw my two cents in anyways....
- Malcolm Kelly will get drafted by Buffalo.
- You may be inclined to add Denver to the mix, with the loss of Smith, Kicus, and Walker.
- You might want to know that Chicago is now on the list of teams that may go WR, with the loss of Berrian, and Muhamad<sp>.
- Minnesota was a team projected to go WR, but i believe they've done what they need to do with the signing of Berrian, and a more pressing need for a pass rushing DE.
5)Now you have Philly...had long been projected to take Desean Jackson, if available here. His size may scare them off now. But is sure to be an electrifying force in the NFL.
They may look at Sweed, Hardy, or Thomas right here......Am I positive ?..nahh..but if i was a betting man...bet the bank on it.

well..IF...being the operative word...
everything may change in a week......i'm speculating as of right now...
doesn't change my view of where Philly will be leaning in the first. In fact...Johnson signing would enhance my beliefs.

Blank has already indicated they will retain Dunn
He could be cut and signed back, but Atlanta is desperately trying to win back their fans and keeping a good guy like Dunn is only logical.
Arthur Blank has already made comments that they intend to keep Dunn.
With Dunn's age, and the fact that the Falcons already have Jerius Norwood, it would only seem logical that Dunn would be released....however it's my guess that Yahoo! is only speculating (as they did with Jason Taylor).
by Fargo Cowboys on Mar 2, 2008 5:36 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Well if they do cut him
Maybe Jerry can get Dunn to come down to Dallas. He might give him enough $$$ to keep ATL from getting him back. Dunn would certainly have a better shot at contributing to a SB in Dallas than he would in Atlanta.

Frankly, I don't get it
Jerious Norwood has been pretty incredible when given the chance to play. I'd understand if they were bringing in a complementary back, but Turner's probably going to get 250 carries the way the Atlanta passing game will look.
I do worry about this contract from a Cowboys standpoint; MB3 will stand to earn an even larger sum in a year's time.

Turner will be carrying that load..trust...
He'll get over 75% of the carries in Atlanta. featured back money....that's the going rate....
Expect MBIII to command over 7 million...which is why i would have rather we placed "just" a first rounder tender on him.
His contract should have been done before Crayton's, during the season...I go that far back in my displeasure of how things are going to go down.
by BoyzRback07 on Mar 2, 2008 7:07 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I disagree, MB3's market value will be around
the same as Turner's. MB3 hasn't done anything to warrant that kind of contract. Maybe in the future, but no now.
by Terry on Mar 2, 2008 7:14 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
he isn't going to be signed now...he'll be a FA
ok....so...Turner is making 6 million/per, after being a career back up...
You mean to tell me Barber isn't going to get 7 million after coming off a Pro Bowl season as a part time back ??
After his agent just proclaimed him not only one of the best RB's in the league,...but one of the best overall players in the league ??
good luck signing him for anything less than 6 years/ 40 million...good luck I say. Personally I wouldn't pay a dime over 5 million/per for him...but it's too late now..market is set...He'll play out this season and leave via FA....or be selected this spring, for a 1st & 3rd....either or...I don't see him here after '08. Should have signed him in December, when they had a chance to.
by BoyzRback07 on Mar 2, 2008 7:33 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
The cap will go up next season
I wouldn't count MB3 out yet. But, it does give Dallas a chance to draft a guy to split carries with him for a year at least. Either way, it will work out.
by APerfectStar on Mar 2, 2008 7:51 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Cap going up, but look who we have to sign
next year Canty, Newman, MB3, Colombo. Ware will be going into the last year of his contract.
One or two of these players won't be back.
My guess, Newman and Colombo. Free or Mcquistan will replace Colombo at RT. We have to get these guys on the field because we can't afford another high priced OL contract.
by Cowboys81 on Mar 2, 2008 7:56 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I still think MB3 or Canty gets extended
Before the season starts. JMO
The Ware contract will be a monster, and I can't believe Newman wouldn't be re-signed. I'd say Colombo might be the odd man out, only because RT seems like the easiest position to replace out of those mentioned.
by APerfectStar on Mar 2, 2008 8:38 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs

by APerfectStar on Mar 2, 2008 8:33 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I will say this
Rosenhaus will try to push for a better deal because of what MB3 accomplished this past season. Turner hasn't done a whole lot in his career. This is exactly the scenerio Jerry didn't want to happen, the reason why drafting a RB capable of starting has to happen.
by Cowboys81 on Mar 2, 2008 7:36 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I may be crazy but...
I watch almost every NFL game and two RB's I saw last year who I thought were pretty decent were Derek Ward and Jesse Chatman. I think they are both free agents and are tough runners. Ward seems a little fragile but has good vision, Chatman will play with a broken leg and has pretty good hands. I also think they may come cheaper than a back in the first round.
