Same old story

Well, about the only thing making the rounds is continued talk about Pacman. ESPN has an article out about prospective suitors. But I hate it when the national media doesn't take the time to research the Cowboys roster before writing an article.

Cornerback isn't a pressing need for Dallas, but Jerry Jones has a long history of bringing in guys who weren't choir boys (Terrell Owens and Tank Johnson, to name a couple) and not exactly running players out of town when they get in trouble.

Cornerback isn’t a pressing need? Apparently no one took the time to look at our roster and the weakness of our team from last season.

There’s also a John Clayton video embedded in the article where he says Pacman could be reinstated before the draft - he thinks it’s likely - and the likely scenario is Pacman to Dallas for a 5th-round choice.

Here’s a little more Pacman if you haven’t your fill. Also, Pacman will be on the Michael Irvin Radio Show tomorrow from 12-3 pm. You can listen to the show online at this link.

Hat tip to the DMN blog for the link.

Our old friend Rocky Boiman is back in the division having just signed a one-year deal with the Eagles.

Cornerback isn't a pressing need for Dallas...

It's good to know ESPN has such high standards when it comes to their columnists. Any idiot that pays attention at least PART of the time would know we just lost TWO corners, and the other two are approaching the wrong side of 30.

PacMan for a 5th rounder sounds alright.

The Problem I have with Jones...

...is that he really isn't even contrite, even now.

I don't understand why we still haven't seen a statement, even written by a publicist, where he goes up to some microphone, and says "I've made a lot of mistakes in the past, I've hung out with the wrong people, people who didn't have my best interests at heart. I know that as an NFL player, I'm supposed to be a role model to the millions of fans across America, and I haven't lived up to that standard. I know the NFL is not a right, but I'm hopeful that Mr. Goodell will see through my flaws and mistakes and give me a second chance to play the game I've loved ever since i was a kid."

Seriously, I think that's all it would take. And then hire someone to sit with him and keep him out of trouble, and the moment he is even thinking about doing something dumb, to call his agent or something.

Instead of this, I read an interview where they asked him "Are you going to stay out of strip clubs now?" and instead of saying, "yes, I realize that those places are bad and even if you're not looking for trouble, trouble can still find you", he says, "oh hell yea, I will just build the stripper pole into my house now".

Seriously. this guy needs to get a grip. TO, Irvin, and Johnson (and Moss for the patriots) were all classically misunderstood players that showed contrition and had the mental capacity to at least pretend to be sincere. Pacman can't even do that.

I agree

but as it looks more and more like it will happen, I'm hoping for the best.

Are you guys forgetting?

He said he had a strippers pole installed in his crib,
that's kind of like he's trying to become a better person yo.

TO was misunderstood???
I'm not sure I'd call it that, he did his QB gay, publicly sparred with 2 coaches, called one of the classiest GMs a racist because he didn't want to play on his team, spat on an opposing CB shortly after he talked about how getting spit on harmed him emotionally, and finally started a fight in a team locker room which lead to his departure

Owens only "grew" up when he was on his final team that would pay him, he knew if he failed he would never see a decent contract again.  Still, props to him for doing what needed to be done.

Also, "misunderstood" Irvin was caught with cocaine, hookers, filmed buying coke (Obvious set-up by Channel 5 but I got steamed watching him hold a kid's hand and tell him to believe in God using the other hand to shake a bag of coke).  Irvin also stabbed a teammate with scissors (He did admit after his career ended the payment to McIver was true) and threatened a potential witness in his drug trial.

I will note also, Moss/Owens/Irvin made their big changes after their 30th birthdays when they matured.  When they were 25 they weren't as bad as Pacman, but they were knuckleheads nonetheless.

Taylor, the difference between T.O. and PM

is that T.O. never committed crimes that could get him suspended. This is the point that everyone is missing.

Even though I didn't like T.O. when he joined the team, I didn't have any fears he'd be suspended from the league  because he'd committ a crime. PacMan is a criminal and that type of behavior is worlds different than what T.O. has ever done.

T.O. was just an ass, nothing more. PacMan is more than an ass, he has the commissioner breathing down his neck. Big, huge difference.

BTW, Irvin played in different era with a different commish. He would have been treated differently in today's NFL under Goodell's watch.

I agree 100% unexpected, very well said

thats the difference between Pacman and guys like Tank Johnson and other players who "should" be given second chances. PacMan is simply a criminal and his statement that "trouble can still find you" proves that in spades. The dude will never change, you can take that to the bank.

I don't care if the guy could completely shut down any WR in the league and return every punt for a TD, not worth the trouble because he will screw up again and end up in jail, its only a matter of time.

I think what Yasinkas meant by

not a pressing need was that we have 2 established starters. Most reporters look at a pressing need as being a starter.

That being said, I agree that national reporters don't nearly do the research they should on the teams they write about.

Mortenson on the 6 PM EST Sportscenter 3.24.08

During the second segment when talking about the possibility of the Cowboys adding Pacman Jones Mort revealed that during his draft the Cowboys had taken Jones off their draft board because of too many red flags.  He said, by way of explanation, that Parcells was legendary for removing people from draft boards for character concerns.

Makes sense

For a first rounder, the red flags definitely should have scared teams off...I'm sure the Titans would agree now.  But, for a 5th rounder and modest contract, after being told that this is his last chance to be successful?  Different story for me.  I don't know that anyone can feel good ethically about adding Pacman, but you play to win, and he can help us do that more than anyone else available for the combination of draft pick and contract.
