Cowboys random stuff
Not much going on right now. Here’s some stuff related, and semi-related, to the Cowboys.
Keith Davis will be visiting the Dolphins on Monday. There’s a shocker.

Jesse Chatman was a the kind of back I thought the Cowboys may look at in free agency if they were going to sign a veteran, but he just signed a one-year deal with the Jets. Warrick Dunn and Tatum Bell are still available.

Drew Bledsoe in a full article about his life after football. He likes coffee and wine, not a bad combo.

Some Pacman Jones humor from the Tampa Tribune.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is thinking about adding Pacman Jones to his roster. Jones is so eager to set up a meeting with the suspended cornerback he's planning on sending a car. Just as soon as Dallas P.D. can find one to spare.

Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas: Jerry Jones, an Arkansas alumni, will be tempted to trade up to secure the rights to McFadden, but with another Razorback available later in the round the Cowboys can get the speed back here they need to complement Marion Barber III.
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tennessee State: Jerry Jones loves flashy athletes, and in this small school star he'd be getting one. Cousin to Antonio Cromartie, "DRC" proved he could handle the jump in competition at the Senior Bowl and by posting a 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the Combine.

Seems like
quite a few mock drafts have us taking F. Jones and Rodgers-Cromartie. I'm not going to argue :D

That has been my dream draft for months....If only..

Ya, the way Cromartie is showing up on mock.....
draft boards, I dont think he is going to fly under anyones radar. From what I read he sounds to me like the next Deon Sanders type of shut down corner, u know u may not want to throw his way , but u wouldn't hesitate to run that direction, and who knows after a couple years in the weight rm u may not want to do that either; But, hey, who realy knows right now. I still say we should use both 1st rounders on CB. We have put all our depth up for adoption and we might as well get someone worth a shit, even at the reserve area, because what good is it to replace a starter with someone who, well is just a body like what we have had.

Indeed
Props to Timmy Mac at the DMN blog for giving me the equivalent of a hat tip. Sweet!

Bullet's Gone.
With the combination of Tuna's commitment to strong special teams play and his history of bringing over former players he coached... you could kiss Keith Davis goodbye.
Thanks for helping our STs over da years, Killa!!! And always remember, "Nothing good ever happens after 3:00 in the morning."
Does anybody
really think that DRC will be there at 28? I think there is no way we let him go if he is there at 22. I think that we may even trade up to make sure we get him.
I agree.
We'd be lucky to get DRC at 22. It's possible that he goes as high as 10 to New Orleans.

We wouldn't pass on him at 22
I don't think he'll be there, but it is really hard to know. As many have said, we just won't know what's going to shake down until right before the draft, if at all. I think he'll be the third corner taken, but when is the question. With the way teams are trending and the astronomical FA prices CBs are getting, it's possible 5 CBs go before we pick at 22.
Its possible, but unlikely
like I said before, as good as a player looks, teams usually shy away from small college kids in the 1st rd unless their skills are really off the charts like D Ware's in 2005 or Rice in 1985.
The question is how impressed are the scouts with DRC's skills? We can speculate like other mock draft "experts", but we won't really know until draft day.
ummmm...Terry...skills are off the charts

I'd like to think running 4.27 and 4.33 in the 40 and having 38 in verts, 10' 6"+ in the broad, and excellent skills position results would classify as "off the charts'
If anyone hasn't noticed, Detroit signing of CB-Kelly and trading for Bodden-CB from Cleveland greatly enhanced our chances...that just leaves NE, Balt, Cincy, NO, Buffalo, Ariz, Houston, Tampa, and Washington as our only obsticles to obtain top CB....LOL.....chance in hell I say.

Cincy
I doubt they'd draft a CB in the first, having done so last year. Not that teams are afraid of investing first-roung picks on defense, draft after draft....
Good point, Grape.
The past two drafts, their first round picks consisted of CB-Leon Hall ('07) and CB-Jonathan Joseph ('06).
They may be looking DE to replace the recently-departed Justin Smith, who robbed San Fran... finishing with only three sacks last year -- yet receiving some ungodly jack from the Niners in Free Agency.
Let's keep in mind folks..
That DRC would make an outstanding ball-hawking FS as well, and it's not set in stone that he be an instant CB....FS-which is a much easier position to give immediate punch, then transition to shut down corner...At his current weight, and rawness, some may be inclined to do such a move....or he can go to the slot, Cincy may have other needs...like...all over the place...but when your last in the league in pass defense 5 years running....you don't overlook the chances of grabbing a stud secondary guy...regardless of who was chosen the previous years...
by BoyzRback07 on Mar 10, 2008 3:38 PM CDT up reply actions
well...FS don't need to carry weight..
In fact it's CB's that more than likely will and should require weight to provide resistance and press coverage strength...and take on RB's off tackle...especially in the 3-4,
-FS are usually 15 plus yards off the line, and if a back can get by 3 lineman, 4 LB's, and possibly a corner..your the last line of defense..what you want is a guy with great speed and ability to close quickly. which their isn't a better one around than DRC.
we'll see how it works out..Just relaying what several scouts have already projected for him...He's going to be a phenominal FS/Slot guy...hopefully for us...
SS needs to have the bulk...power, and toughness, with speed to cover a zone, a 5th LB if you will...why we can't get Roy to be like that is a good question...Stewart better get his act together...Roy should never be seen more than 10-15 yards off the line. I can only hope next year when it's 3rd and 6 or greater, Roy is suckin gatoraide on the sidelines.

FS have to tackle better than CBs
and much more often and thats what I meant by adding weight. If DRC played FS at 185, he wouldn't stay healhty very long.
he's going to gain 10-15 pounds over the next few
i just disagree with weight having anything to do with it...you can either tackle or you can't.
by BoyzRback07 on Mar 11, 2008 7:55 AM CDT up reply actions
weight comes into play because
since FSs have to tackle more than CBs, their bodies have to be able to handle the wear and tear of that position. Lets face it, CBs don't have to tackle as much as FSs, and when they do, 95% of the time its a WR built just like them.
True, but
They could get the #1 safety on the board if they wanted, and they'd probably pay a safety less than a CB prospect. Outside of the lines and the specific 4-3 DE/3-4 OLB conversion, teams tend to draft guys for the positions they plan on using them at. Talib fits this category as well.
I think they are as well
but we really don't know what the real scouts really think of this kid, we only know what the media guys say and what we see with our own eyes.
Me personally, I love the kid but I think DRC gets drafted in the 15-25 range.
Hahah, this is great
A quote about Pacman from the DMN blog

Pacman is a kind soul who is doing nothing more than supporting single mothers one dollar at a time!
lol....awesome quote...

its not going to strip clubs that
is the problem with Pac Man. Millions of men patronize strip clubs and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, however, its the behavior and attitude that he is displaying while in and around the clubs thats the problem, he's a solicistic punk who will never change.
Solicistic?
Maybe solidistic? Or were you saying something else? He's proven himself to be worthy of a plethora of descriptions, and most are not flattering.
