Jerry Jones discusses the Dallas Cowboys interest level in NFL bad boys

Jerry Jones talks about the Dallas Cowboys plans (or non-plans) for two of the NFL’s bad boys. Pacman Jones is one guy who we’ve talked about a lot but Jerry had a little more to say today.

...Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said decisions made in the upcoming draft will not be influenced by the suspended cornerback's availability, one way or another.

In fact, when Jones was asked if a trade was imminent, he said, "I think the longer it goes, the less likely it will happen."

[snip]

And when asked if he was confident the trade would eventually get done, Jones said, "I don't know . . . I don't know. I really don't have a feel for it right now."

Good job, Jerry. Way to put the ball back in the Titan’s court by sticking with the offer of a low round pick. Glad to see we’re not negotiating with ourselves on this one, at least not yet. Jerry may get spooked later but holding firm is the right move. Jerry also said that the trade for Pacman would not require that the commissioner had already ruled him eligible.

Moving on to that other bad boy, Chris Henry, Jerry had this to say.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday that acquiring recently released Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry, who was a college teammate of Pacman Jones at West Virginia, is "unlikely."

Unlikely? That’s not a firm no. One is enough Jerry, you don’t have to corner the market in one offseason of players voted most likely to get suspended by Roger Goodell.

But Chris Henry is going to try and get Dallas interested by using the Pacman Method.

[Henry] has contacted former Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin about potentially appearing on his radio show on ESPN 103.3 FM.

Ooh
Excellent quotes by Jerry Jones.  The whole Pacman deal now feels like a draft-day scenario.  We may only part with a higher pick if the draft has not gone our way.  Surely, even the Titans have realized this :

Disastrous draft + panicking Jerry = 3rd-rounder
Decent draft = 4th-rounder
Good draft = 5th-rounder
DRC/McKelvin = 6th-rounder or not-at-all

By draft, I mostly mean the status of the first day.

I don't get the Chris Henry intrigue

I understand bringing in malcontents and headcases if their production is indisputable. That's why I supported TO and PacMan. I also understand bringing in players who have been in trouble, but are more misunderstood than anything else (Tank). Henry, however, seems like a good-not-great player with injury problems and a reluctance to contribute to human existence.

I disagree, Henry has just as much talent

as Pacman, and would have started and starred for at least 25 teams in the league if not more.

There is no difference between Pacman and Henry in terms of their reluctance to contribute to human existence as you put it.

PacMan is a top 15 corner

Henry has, through 3 years, as many receiving yards as TO did during this past season alone. There's a reason Chad Johnson got to 1400 yards and TJ Housmnadzadeh got more passes directed at him than any other NFL receiver; Henry has either been injured or inconsistent.

not true Budlight

Henry has played great the times he's been given opportunities to do so.

The reason Chad and TJ have great numbers is because they are both top 10 receivers in the league and Henry definitely has the talent to be in that category as well, or should I say had the chance before he screwed it up.

Henry has nothing that would

Off set his huge risk. I get it, you like his talent. I have a much different opinion. Henry has some talent at WR, Pacman has a huge amount of talent at a position of great need. I don't see how you can even compare the 2. Pacman is a lot more talented, which is the only reason he'll get another chance. Henry reminds me of Antonio Bryant, who got a chance to be the #1 WR in SF and blew it. I predict if Henry ever gets another chance, he'll perform about the same.

bottom line Tom is that Henry is every bit

as talented as Pacman, if you can't see it, I'm sorry, but its true, otherwise the Bengals wouldn't have held on to him as long as they did.

He's worlds better than Bryant and like I said, if he wasn't playing for Cincy and getting suspended every 6 months, he'd be a perenial pro bowler.

I don't see it

To call this ass clown a perennial Pro Bowler is beyond ridiculous. As much as I don't care for Pacman, I at least admit he's capable of becoming a shut down corner and top return man.

Henry has size and speed, but so do lots of other WR's. I think you are overrating him. Looking at his stats leaves me searching for the "it" factor you seem to think he has.

Agree to disagree, as it doesn't matter anyway. Henry will be suspended indefinitely.

see, thats your problem Tom

you're looking at his stats which would be a mistake, to evaluate a player you actually have to watch him play and disregard stats. When I watch him play, I haven't seen any CB who could really cover him. When teams double TJ and Chad, he always beats his guy.

Of course he's stats aren't going to be great, he's playing behind 2 superstar WRs.

Exactly

He's being covered by the 3rd and 4th DB, while TJ and Chad pull the top CB and S help.

Maybe he was the bomb in college, but in the pro's he never achieved anything, and probably never will.

Broken, Hurt, and Suspended

What we really need is a wide receiver who can't stay on the field due to an injury filled career punctuated by league suspensions...sounds like a wise thing to do with a valuable roster spot  /sarcasm

Henry is a #3 receiver

We've already got one of those, and a solid one at that. PASS.

There are two Adrian Petersons, but there is only one Marion Barber.

by Nelson on Apr 10, 2008 10:40 AM CDT   0 recs

why is this even a discussion

he is probably going to be suspended for 1 year. Remember, he was suspended for 8 games last season.

by Cowboys81 on Apr 10, 2008 11:51 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I rememeber.

Just making a point that I don't think he'd be what we need even if a year suspension weren't imminent.

Henry could be a #1 receiver if he was a team

without 2 superstar WRs.

Yeah right

I'd sure count on him in the clutch...Not
