Gameday Box and TV/Radio Notes

Dallas Cowboys @ Detroit Lions
Sunday, Dec. 9th, 2007
1:00 PM EST, TV: FOX
Ford Field – Detroit, MI
FOX is broadcasting the game to 40% of the country. You can see the local stations that will broadcast the game, here and see a map, here. On DirecTV Sunday Ticket, the game is on channel 706.
Internet radio, here.
This is an open thread for real-time game chat.
My prediction: Dallas 48 – Detroit 13. Dallas seeks big-time revenge against a team that beat them then disrespected them last year.

I'm the other 60%
Doh! Now I'm forced to watch with friends who are Packers and Niners fans.. argh! Stupid Arizona. . ,
Sorry Dunk
You got screwed this week, why the heck is anyone one going to watch OAK vs. any team?
by APerfectStar on Dec 9, 2007 10:45 AM CST up reply actions
I like the way this team
comes off extended time off, in this case ten days. Unlike some teams, they seem to play extremely well. Let's hope that trend continues.
I'm kocking on solid oak as I cautiously predict 38-24.
What's up with the purple shirt Romo?
Did anybody catch that on ESPN? They're also going to talk to our favorite pod-person about his future. Get your popcorn ready.
I thought the same thing Grizz
My theory is that it's because the last time the Lions faced an opponent in purple, they got hammered. A little psychological warefare.
Gotta be impressed with someone secure enough to wear a purple silk shirt...
Good call dunk
I'm with ya.

Hmm let's see..
Witten 2 TD's
T.O. 1 TD
Crayton 1 TD
Barber 1 TD
Toss in a TD for either Hurd, or TD Tony. If no TD here then replace with 2 FG's
Dallas 41
Lions 13
Lions lone TD goes to Calvin Johnson who will have a 105 yard game
I'm in jacksonville
so I'm off to a sports bar. The only games I missed this season were the dolphins and Rams but now I don't want to miss anymore. Blog on fellas! Go Cowboys!!
I won't go out on a limb like Grizz
But Kitna will be destroyed on offense. Throw in some fumbles and picks and the Boys should easily hang over 30 pts on the Lions.
I don't see the Lions scoring more than FG's in this one.
Cowboys 38
Lions 12
We get Oakland vs. Greenbay
here in Baltimore too....they couldn't find a better game? It's not like either team has any impact on what the local teams are doing.
pack vs.GB in balt?
thats crazy! i'm in va. and we're getting the cowboys game...surprised their not showing giants/eagles up there
My FOX changed it
They had a crap game before and now it got switched to Dallas/Detroit
Stuck with Giants/Eagles
Gonna try to get some kind of internet viewing going at work. Hopefully this works out better than the last time I watched a game at the office (I won't say when, let's just leave it at that).
Because I don't have the stones to be cocky against the lions, I'll say we win 34-28. A W's a W.
I'm really looking forward to
todays game. Talk about your grudge match! Today is the day that we need to start dominating lesser teams!
My prediction is
Cowboys-45
Lions -10
Madden '08 simulation
30-13 Dallas....
MB III with 221 yards on 35 carries
that would be awesome

Kenny Mayne is the weirdest person on ESPN
but definitely weird....
man, the 'boys are getting a lot of pub from ESPN....
there was the profile on Romo, then they sat down with T.O. this week, there's the Kitna-Newman-James fiasco....
Is anybody else worried in the least
about this game? I think we should win easily, but I'm still a little nervous about this one. We really need to get a lot of pressure on Kitna. I don't like our secondary against 4 and 5 wide sets.
I'm slightly worried
But this team isn't looking past the Lions AT ALL (and especially not after all the trash talk that has taken place this week). But We're flat-out better than the Lions, and should take care of business.
by Nelson @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 11:28 AM CST up reply actions
I'm worried for two reasons
- I always worry. Even against the Jets.
- Weird things happen when we play Detroit.
I Can Give You a Third Reason
This is Dallas' Temple of Doom. We've lost more bizarre, crazy games here (Kingdome and Ford Field) than any other place. Ever.
We're 3-7 there since the Lions moved into the Kingdome.
1981 Lions kick a winning field goal on the last play of the game to win with 12 men on the field; Cowboys protest on the spot, but league cheerfully awards the win to Detroit.
1985 Dallas falls to pieces against mediocre Lions team, committing a slew of turnovers--this is usually how we lose to them. Fumbles and picks galore.
1991 Dallas leads 10-3 and tries a long field goal on the last play of the first half. Lions block it and run it back for a TD, and go on to win 34-10
1991 NFC Div Playoffs: Only Lions playoff victory in the last 50 years, comes against...the Dallas Cowboys, 38-6.
2001, 2002 Detroit wins too weird, low scoring games by 15-10 and 9-7.
The good news is we smashed the Lions the last time we were there, in 2003, and one would think our offense would light up their woeful secondary like a Christmas tree. Their offensive line also does not match up well against our pass rush.
But still, crazy things happen to us when we visit Detroit...
FINALLY!
Man, I hate waiting 10 whole days for a game. Oh well, it's not as bad as the buy week.
Cowboys 42
Lions 7
Post-game story: Cowboys Run Up The Score? :P
by Nelson @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 11:25 AM CST reply actions
I HATE ESPN
Only ESPN gets TO on, asks him 70 questions about Parcell's, watches him generally deflect them then cuts away and lectures him for not "letting go"
Hilarious.
Dallas 45
Seattle 13
they still ask him about Parcells?
I wonder if LT gets questioned as much about Schottenheimer.
by Nelson @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 11:34 AM CST up reply actions
I can't wait for the kickoff
and see that dallas D get after kitna
I know I've said this before
but have you guys noticed that there is more pre-game and between game posting on this site than most teams get for an entire game? It's pretty amazing, and a credit to Grizz and all you guys. Big tip of the fedora to this community.
yeah thats true
I checked out the packers blog during that game and there was like 5 guys and a dude from the patriots blog....LOL
Anyone have an internet video/audio link?
I'm trying to sopcast this game, but the usual links site doesn't have it. If anyone has a sopcast link or any other audio/video broadcast link online, please let me know.
try this
its a thread that lists all of the channels, i watched the hatton vs. mayweather fight through that site last night, i'm sure you can find it there.
Let's go Cowboys
do the damage!

off-topic, but
The Steelers are going to get BEAT tonight. I hate to say it but that's going to happen. Mr. Smith pretty much sealed the deal with that 'guarantee' of his. The last time a defensive player shot his mouth off before his team met the Patriots? The Redskins got 52 points hung on them.
by Nelson @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:03 PM CST reply actions
we'll see
I don't think this one will be an easy one for the Pats.
I have two very good friends who will be at the game - one is a Steelers fan and one a Pats fan. Hopefully the Pats fan will protect the Steelers fan ;-)
"mini-hug"
T-new and Kitna - haha - that's good to see, now go out and get him! (fair)
KICKOFF
good return austin!
I'll take the 1st down by penalty
running game looking good!
setting up the play action effectively
for later
I'd like to see JJ
cut those upfield quicker
yeah, the last two
he kind of paused and the lanes closed. patience can be good, or not so much.
Folk misses?
Uggh, that was a wasted drive.
Wade needs to go for it there
by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:12 PM CST up reply actions
yeah we wasted a good opening drive
c'mon DEEFENSE!
The Temple of Doom Strikes Again
Dallas actually gets a good drive, quiets the crowd a little...and of course we miss a long FG.
I'm on needles and pins.
Man
letting the Lions run on us.
What we say has no bearing
on the actual game.
Damn
I thought we were supposed to be good against the run
This team sucks at stopping the run
by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:16 PM CST reply actions
go check out Kevin Jones'
numbers the past couple of weeks.
by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:18 PM CST up reply actions
Bad tackling
Wow, we got abused!!
I guess we got ourselves a game
We weren't expecting them to run
because they haven't done it all year. Wade and Stewart will fix that, no big deal.
this is the team that supposed to have
no running game???
there is no question that the Cowboys
were expecting the Lions gameplan to throw, guarantee they didn't expect all those runs.
This is beginning to look like some of those
let-down games in the '95 season.
Come on Cowboys..wake up!
Now the Crowd Noise
Will be an issue. Don't be surprised to hear Flozell's name being a few times while we're behind.
its early yet
I still say we run away with it!
MB3 has to pick up the blitz
That was Barber's guy
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:24 PM CST reply actions
Romo is still sleeping
overthrown ball and now not recognizing the blitzer before the snap...
by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:25 PM CST reply actions
Watkins at least makes a play
looking a little more ready for the run
on that one...
unfortunately
having to guard against the run more means it may open up their passing game more
Come on Dallas - wake up!
Henry
is a freaking moron. This D blows. STUPID STUPID.
by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:34 PM CST reply actions
you must have not been watchin
Cowboys' games lately
by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:36 PM CST up reply actions
well
go watch them again
by Longhorn @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:39 PM CST up reply actions
DeMarcus...not good.
okay, at least hold them to 3
better yet, a turnover would be nice about now
At least we held them to a FG
That's something to build on.
This'd be a one-score-game if Folk
had hit the FG. Let's get it going!
at least those slow starts
earlier in the season give some comfort now!
Why can't Austin beat a kicker!
as long as he beats all the other guys
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:42 PM CST up reply actions
YES
too bad he didn't get past Hansen, but momentum starting to go the other way.
Detroit Has Always Been
one of those teams where if you jump on them early and get a lead, they seem to quit. On the other hand, if they can be competitive early, crowd noise starts to be an issue, and false starts, sacks and turnovers result.
We need to score here, to get us back in the game.
Thank you for the jump start, Miles.
Barber not having a good game
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:46 PM CST reply actions
we need to step it up!
thats more like it...TD MBIII
MB3!!!!!!!
Now if we could get our D fired up....
That's better!
by Nelson @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:50 PM CST reply actions
We should just move Hurd to Fullback
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:52 PM CST reply actions
kind of short kick
but pretty good coverage
Eagles and Giants
Giants have a first and goal at the Philadelphia one, get a defensive penalty during the series, but can't punch it in.
Eagles still lead, 7-3.
"maybe the best team...
in the National Football League, when it's all said and done"
- Aikman
Too much time in the pocket
yeah, really not getting pressure
on Kitna
and not covering that well
not really if Kitna made the right throw
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 12:58 PM CST up reply actions
hold them to 3 again
then come back and take the lead
Do we look that bad?
Not able to see the game today - is Detroit killing our secondary?
by Pete on Dec 9, 2007 12:58 PM CST reply actions
no penalties so far
for the 'Boys. that's good.
Roughing the passer - Ware
No Team Has Scored
on Dallas on their first three drives.
The Temple of Doom strikes again.
At least we held them to three...
yup, holding them to 3 twice
is not too bad
yup
time to take the lead, and then leave them in the dust. I predicted they would score 13, so now the D just needs to make the adjustments and hold them for the rest of the game, and we're all good ;-)
We've been in worse shape...
going into halftime before.
I have faith in Garrett and Tony.
by Pete on Dec 9, 2007 1:03 PM CST up reply actions
yeah, those slow starts earlier
help give confidence now
Will somebody please get to Kitna
Ya think...
all that jibber-jabber before the game pi$$ed off Detroit's O-line?
by Pete on Dec 9, 2007 1:07 PM CST up reply actions
Shades of 1981, 1985, 1991, and 1991 (again)
A good Dallas defense gets shredded by a bad Detroit team. No pass rush, no coverage, no run defense.
Good grief. We're going to lose.
you're suggesting
our defense is good?
IT SUCKS!
This is so EMBARRASSING!
Someone needs to give our Def. Coordinator a
wake-up call.
Stunning, they are just whipping us
Missed tackles again!
wow
i am stunned.
how can a defense talk this much crap then come out and play flat?
they psyched up the detroit offense then decided not to show up.
pathetic.
There's always ONE game
like last year with the Saints, that seems to cue all the other teams as to what we're doing.
by Pete on Dec 9, 2007 1:15 PM CST reply actions
I'm getting a little worried
Sure would be nice to score before halftime
Spears got abused by

Keep Hope Alive!
What's up with all this negativism? Has there not been 12 games this season that has proved to you the capability of our offense and defense and players and coaching staff to adjust and WIN?!!?
As long as we are within 2-3 scores, we are able to score - we have too many weapons.
In the words of your favorite reverend (Jackson)...KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!
if romo can get something going here
we will be ok
If our Defense cannot stop the Lions
and so far, they haven't proven they can, then we are not okay.
"this is a team that excels in the second half"
keep that in mind! have some faith!
careful
coulda got delay of game with that spike
For some reason Romo has trouble with the fade
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 1:25 PM CST up reply actions
Did I hear Hall & Oates??
I think they were just playing Private Eyes during the review...

Barber is a great receiver
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 1:27 PM CST reply actions
Romo, great throw
MB3 TD machine cranking up
the spot of the ball
whether it was a first down. it was. but didn't matter.
Defense Will Have to Start Playing
We've given up 250 yards of offense. They'll have to get stops in the second half.
The D has to figure something out
because they needed to force a punt or two and they haven't done that yet.
in this situation
we're preventing the long play
still need to stop them here
for one more play this half
They were both playing the ball you idiots
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 1:32 PM CST reply actions
that must have been the call
but he sure did lay that shoulder into the receiver
Doesn't matter if Watkins is going for the ball
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 1:35 PM CST up reply actions
Surely you're joking
That may have been the most blatant pass interference penalty in the history of football.
by Mike05 on Dec 9, 2007 1:36 PM CST up reply actions
If they bump with both going to the ball
In the case of Roy Williams he was playing the ball as well. When the defender is playing the ball its almost like he is a receiver.
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 1:39 PM CST up reply actions
Burt, just because he's palying the ball
you can't run through a receiver to do it. Watkins was coming forward while CJ was crossing the field and hit him, you can't do that.
I admit the Roy one was close
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 1:45 PM CST up reply actions
I did
CJ is going parallel to the line and has the angle for the ball, Watkins comes forward and bumps him. That's PI.
It looked to me like Watkins was in a better
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 3:59 PM CST up reply actions
Also Watkins reaches out his hands for the ball
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 4:09 PM CST up reply actions
I mean prove you doubters wrong
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 4:10 PM CST up reply actions
I'm glad the PI calls are going our way
but when we win, that will give them reason to gripe
The calls were completely kosher
by Burt D @ Blogging The Boys on Dec 9, 2007 1:40 PM CST up reply actions
Brad and Babe
Said Watkins got away with one. They said it was obvious illegal contact or pass interference.
Hope it conntinues that way.
I'd like to see the "2nd half season" meltdown of the Giants once again.
we haven't stopped one drive in the first half
without a score. and they get the ball first to start the second. time to see if wade can make the adjustments. one stop, one TD, and we're on top. let's see it happen!
