Roll call: Going to TC edition

Just a few words about training camp. Yes, I will be attending this year for two weeks and I will be filing practice reports again this year for each session. I’ll also be doing some radio shows with DCFanatic on a regular basis. We hope to make it a call in show so you can ask about pet cats or other players who aren’t getting covered. We haven’t got it all worked out yet, but I’ll let you know once the plans are final.

Next, I wanted to say great jobs with the diaries lately. The reason they’re available is so you guys can post the things I’m not covering or just your own thoughts on a subject. Also, it’s a great place to post rumors like dunkman’s diary on Bill Cowher. That’s what makes BTB, and SB Nation blogs in general, so user friendly. My voice isn’t the only voice here; you guys have a lot of control, too. So use it and keep posting diaries.

Let’s turn this into a roll call. We haven’t had one in a while, so let’s check in with the hardcore readers, you guys who visit BTB even in the depths of the dead season. Sign-in, and tells us whatever you want. I’ll go first.

I’m Grizz and I think the Cowboys are peachy keen. Click on my name in a post for my user profile.

Your turn.

Most bloggers on this site know me as the biggest Tony Romo fan on the planet and a Cowboy homer, but I just happen to have great faith and belief in the Brett Favre wannabe and try to look at most Cowboy issues as the glass being half full as opposed to being half empty.  I believe true fans can't be 100% purely objective.

That being said, I obviously have really big expectations for Romo and the 2007 Cowboys this season and will be highly disappointed if they don't make a deep run into the playoffs.

Feel free to click on my name in a post for my user profile.

Old Fart with numbers

At least that is the way some here have catagorized me. My following of the Cowboys came when we drafted Roger Staubach. I have followed Roger at Navy so it was a natural transfer (even though his pro play was delayed). Over the years I have been privilaged to see many great players wear the star.

I am a disabled Vietnam veteran who sometimes misses some time for illness but am always glad to come here when I can. As I was once a CPA and an electronics engineer (USAF) charged with analytical evaluation of radar worldwide I come by my numbers naturally. What I really want is truth. Numbers are only one perspective of the truth but a reasonable start.

This is the best football blog on the planet and Grizz provides a vision that does empower us to be creative and challenging at the same time we learn from each other and expand our perspectives. It does not get any better than that.

Hi everyone.

Cowboy fan since Meredith.  (on the field, not in the booth)

Favorite "new" Cowboy - Jackie Battle (both of us went to UH)

I got the name Brushpile after having lived under a large pile of brush in a wilderness area for quite a few months.  Don't ask.

Hats off to Grizz, who gives us our daily Cowboy news.

Burt-D in the house

I would have to concur with kk218.  This is by far the best site for Cowboys info.  And for that I give my own hat tip to Grizz!

And I make Terry look like a Romo hater with my admiration for the soon to be next great Cowboys back Marion Barber the Third!

Fan for Life

Checking in here, I've been a fan for life...even though I grew up in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia (live near Detroit now).

I have a picture of me in a Staubach shirt, standing in the middle of the Star on the 50 yard line when I was not even a year old. I love that picture.

My favorite all-time Cowboy is easily Michael Irvin. I believe his injury was the start of the many years of the un-Cowboy like football in the past decade. He was the leader on and off the field that I feel we lack today.

Thanks Grizz for what I feel is easily the best Cowboys site on the net. I remember people posting your TC stuff on the RanchReport last year, and when I found out about this blog I never looked back. I rarely go back to the RR, it's just a sesspool of negativitism.

Checking in

I guess after lurking on this site for well over a year now Im due to finally make an account and say something.  Im Xillin and love me some Cowboys and some Buckeyes.  I almost always agree 100% with Grizz, its kinda crazy atually, its like he is in my head.  I hate R. Williams and J. Jones with a passion, but I love Ware, Newman, Ayodele, Fergie, Romo, Barber, Glenn and even T.O..  You see, I dont care about off the field stuff positive or negative.  All I care about is play on the field, so I ignore T.O.'s BS for his play, but by the same token I ignore Biscuit's being a Cowboy draftee and great off the field demeanor and choose to focus primarily on his terrible coverage abilities.   Thats me in a nutshell.  Ill try to get more active around here from now on.  Looking forward to many great conversations and debates with all of you.

I like how you think (especially on MB3/JuJo)

though I am not quite that harsh on Roy.  I am going to give him one more season with playing in the box more before I'll unleash the hounds on him.

obsessed

I too discovered this site from posts on the Ranch Report, but I haven't been back there since coming here. Greatest source of Cowboys information on the net, easy. And, thusly, I check for updates obsessively.

I'm a lifetime Cowboys fan from North Jersey. I enjoy attending Cowboys @ Giants/Eagles games and enduring verbal (and possibly physical) abuse for hours on end. My buddy has already scored tickets to the Sunday night game in Philly in November and I look forward to an Eagirls thumping.

My two current Cowboys favorites are D. Ware on the defense and Witten on the O. I think we'll be explosive on both sides of the ball this year with the my only concern being the play of the secondary, albeit a large concern.

Can't wait for TC. Thanks for all of the info, Grizz!

At least I don't live in Philadelphia.

Dunkman, presented and accounted for

My grandmother, of all people introduced, me to Cowboys fandom when I was just a tyke growing up in Texas and Meredith was the QB. But like most people back in the day, I was a Staubach fan as soon as he joined the team.

Great site. Not a bunch of adolescents trying to get in the last flame, but a pretty cool bunch, a community really, of smart people who love football, and especially Cowboys football. Living in VA among Redskins fans is some sort of special hell I haven't quite figured out how I earned, but this is a small peiece of sanity.

Fan since birth

Huge Cowboys fan, and have been as long as I can remember. Thanks to my Dad, you all know him as Dunkman. (Almost made my sign-on as Son of Dunkman)He also introduced me to this web-site at the end of last season, so I am looking forward to a full season of analysis and information from Grizz and the rest of the bunch. Now that I have found this site, I don't know how I made it through all of the off-seasons before this one. Living is Redskin country is hard enough, but I had to go and marry into a Redskin family. So I pray that much harder twice a year just so I don't have to hear about it for weeks afterwards.

I have been a bit of a lurker since I started, but hope to contribute more to the discussions and debates from here out.

Hope you post more, sduncan24.  Your Dad's got a great sense of humor and keeps us all entertained...

New Member here!

Found this site when Matt Mosely started his Hashmarks blog.  I was a big fan of the DMN blog when he did it, now not so much with Cowboy hater Tim running the show.  Glad that I found a site that is objective yet told from the view of a true fan.

I was born and raised in Dallas, and became a fan as soon as I was old enough to understand what football was, which was somewhere around 1988.  I have not missed a game since 1990, when Emmitt first started playing.

I am now six years into a run in the US Navy, and have been stationed in Connecticut the whole time.  I have stayed a true fan throughout, never missing a game, except when I was overseas.  I still regret not being able to watch Emmitt surpass Sweetness live on television.

Grizz, keep up the good work!  I am already an offseason regular, and will be posting many more times in the future!

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small.

Representin' Virginia Beach over here

My dad retired from the Navy in '83 (served in the US Navy), and he just retired from the Police force two years ago (retired twice now).  Huge Filipino-American influx here in Hampton Roads as a result of the Navy, and that's why I grew up here.

And thanks to my father, I became a Cowboys' fanatic. He was the first Dallas fan in our family, and I guess I just followed in his footsteps.

Of course, I'm passing the tradition down to my girls.  My 7-year-old daughter already gets into debates with her friends about the Cowboys being the best football team ever.

Ah, I love it.  I'm training her well...

Checking In

A friend of mine told me about BTB a couple of months ago.  I've been an avid reader ever since.  I've been impressed because people consistently posit well thought out and generally well supported arguments (which is more than I can say for the national media).  My internship has kept me very busy, but once I get back to school, I should be able to start posting regularly.  One thing you should know is that I sometimes struggle with brevity, so I apologize in advance.

I'm a huge T-New fan and think that he is the most underrated player in the league.  Although I haven't been alive for too long, I've been a Cowboys fan the whole time.

Grew up in the Metroplex

I'm a third generation Cowboy fan.  My dad and grandfathers were born and grew up in Fort Worth so I know why the Cowboys always wear "away" unis.  I grew up in the Mid-Cities so I'm starved for Cowboy and Ranger information.  I got introduced to this site through a Lone Star Ball reference.  I have to say, it is great.  It has a good balance of objectivity and homerism, like a good home town announcer.

My hometown roots bring up a point that I would like y'all to settle.  I'm down in Beaumont, Texas and thus saddled with Texan fever (Catch it!).  I have two boys.  Since I was raised in the shadow of Cowboy Stadium, I HAD to be a Cowboy fan.  Well, do my two boys (both under three) HAVE to be Texan fans or do they get to choose or do they have any free will or am I duty-bound to raise them to be Cowboy fans?  I know where my heart is . . .

by Beaumonty on Jun 25, 2007 5:57 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

My whole family were Skins fans!

Yet, I have always rooted for the boys. It may be because my older brother and I never agreed on anything and faught it out constantly. However, I have since convertd my older sister, and my brother has seen the error of his ways and changed to following the Jags. ( I know it's not the boys , but at least its not the skins! )

BTB

I guess I am a lurker. I read BTB every day if I have internet access, but I only post if I think I have something useful to contribute. I've been a Cowboys fan since 1960 and think this year's team has a chance to be special. Of course, injuries can dash my hopes, and good players can have a bad year. Still, I'm more optimistic about this year's team than I've been since Michael Irvine was injured.

SB5 comin' straight atcha

Of course, SB5 could stand for da number of Super Bowls our Beloved Cowboys have won -- 5 for those scoring at home.

Actually, it means "silverblue5" -- which symbolized my allegiance to the Dallas Cowboys & their five super bowl rings... and my loyalty to BTB.com, which is the best damn Cowboys site in the whole wide world!!!

Grew up a Tony Dorsett #33 fan and I've been through the winning traditions of Cowboy God Tom Landry, the doldrums of his final HC years, the rebuilding years of JJ & JJ, the dynasty 90s with da triplets & our three SB titles, the post Jimmy years (Dark Ages), the Big Tuna era, and now to the present.

And through all that, I just got one thing to say...

"How 'bout them Cowboys!!!"

BTB IS THE BEST

A year ago I found a link to this site from my other favorite football site, profootballtalk.com.  Ever since then, I've checked this site everyday.

Grizz, you do a great job of reporting any and all news related to the cowboys.

I'm only 21, but my dad taught me a long time ago which team to root for, and which team to despise.

I HATE naive football fans that believe the cowboys are not a good team, and to an even more ridiculous degree, believe that we've never done anything special.

So I thank you guys for being well informed and passionate fans.

I'll be attending quite a few games this year, so I'll scream extra loud for all you guys stuck behind enemy lines.

Impatient

Hi Yall, I have been a Cowboys fan since birth. Seriously. I was brought to my Mom in December of 1976 in a Dallas Cowboys stocking. My mom used to work at the old Cowboys office off of 75 in Dallas before they moved to Valley Ranch.

I used to meet all kinds of players going up and down the elevator on their way to sign contracts or meet with management. Some of the noteables are Tony Dorsett, Randy White, and Danny White to name a few.

Impatient is my name cause I cant wait for the start of the season, the next game, the next superbowl, or whatever. I want it now.

Grizz & I are frat bro's from the mid 80's. We had this other Bro', Gomez, who was a diehard 'Skins fan. Man we used to crack up listening to those two go at... I started reading his blog shortly after he started it and loved his write-ups from TC last year, even though I'm not a Cowboy. You couldn't find anyone doing the depth and detail he provides. You don't have to be a Cowboy fan to enjoy this site. He so inspired me to apply for the SB Nation's Panthers blogger position which you can read at www.catscratchreader.com. Butch Davis coaching the Tar Heels just makes me grin. Watch UNC become a top-tier team ... first time since Texas stole Mac from us!!!

Cowboys Fans ... Assemble!

Hi, I'm Derek.  I started posting on this board last season and I've been lurking for longer.  My only real claim to fame (on this board anyway) is that I suggested Roy should play linebacker in nickel and dime situations late last year, something that Wade might actually do this year.

Other then that, I try to keep a realistic perspective on my favorite team (doesn't really happen though) and post a few humorous comments along the way.  Welcome to all the new posters and howdy to all the old ones.

boysandbosox

As the screen name would indicate, I am a huge fan of the Cowboys and Boston Red Sox. I live in CT and became a Cowboys fan because that is who my father rooted for. He adored Tom Landry and has not followed the team since Landry was fired.

I have a childhood friend that I speak with almost daily who loves the Redskins. We do battle constantly during the season--sometimes good-natured...sometimes not. Unfortunately, I will not be satisfied until the Cowboys go 16-0 and the Redskins go 0-16.

One of the most difficult moments of my life came last season when Dallas lost the blocked field goal game to Washington. My oldest son who is seven decided to root for Washington (he's a Pats fan)and was running around the house in celebration when the game ended. I had to leave the house immediately or there was going to be an incident.

the funny thing about the Redskins going 0-16 is.

They still probably won't have a pick till the 3rd round.

Cal in DC - Checking in the best Cowboys Blog!

Grizz,

Grew up in OK, playing against Troy Aikman, watching OkState Cowboys every week (Jimmy Johnson, etc.)...Navy took me to Washington DC, where I stayed. Love being around fickle Redskins fans to flaunt Cowboy superiority!!

Last year you helped me on my visit to Oxnard so my kids could get autographs and we could watch the best parts of training camp - I've been a loyal fan ever since.

I posted a summary of the dreadful foreshadow of the playoffs when I went to the Redskins game here in DC. If I go again this year, I'll send another review.

This is by far the best Cowboys Blog in webspace - your daily reports are addicting!

Looking forward to at least a playoff win this year!

Big time lurker...

small time poster. I echo all the sentiments above - this is THE place for complete Cowboys news. Grizz is the best and all the regular posters just add to the excellence. I'd be interested to know where some of you acquired all that football knowledge - playing, coaching and/or self-taught?

And as a Texan who is temporarily living in Arkansas for the last 30 years, I'd LOVE to see Darren McFadden with a star on his helmet next year. I think he's the next Faulk/Edge/Tomlinson type back who'll be able to do it all.

I'd be up for some BTB fantasy football, too...

Roll Call

Warden here, long time Cowboy fan (since 1970) living in NYC area, Giant country! Went to first game at Meadowlands, October 9 1976 Giants versus Dallas, won by Cowboys; made pilgrimage to Texas Stadium in '96 for a game won by Dallas over Atlanta on a last minute Aikman to Kelvin Martin bomb. True believer who lives and dies with Cowboys, expecting big things from Romo & Co. this season. Congrats on excellent, well written site. Keep the info coming. Great bunch of fans here,

Great Game

That is one of two games I have been able to attend in person, I was only 12 but still remember everyone standing to watch him into the endzone, I had to stand on my seat.

Lurking for over a year, finally signed up..

Indispensible site for a Transplanted Texan living in the heart of Giants country.

Wish my favorite hockey team had a site that did the same, but alas, nobody cares about the NHL apparently.

Roll Call

ibleed blue here.

grew up in west Texas and have been a fan all my life.  i now live in indianapolis amidst a bunch of soft football loving fans.  i cut my teeth on the 1-15 season and spent my junior high years rooting the boys on through the championship run.

since then, i have had my heart broken more than anything, but my ties to "the boys" have grown stronger.

i'm looking forward to this year because i am a defense first, power running game second kind of fan.

i have us going 11-5 this year on the strength of Canty, Spears, Ware, and Spencer.

Longtime Lurker

This is by far the best site for our Boys and I check in many times throughout the day (every day) for my Cowboys fix.  Grizz you do a great job!!

Been a Cowboys fan forever, which isn't easy living in Iggles/Skins/Ravens country (Delaware), but it always makes the victories and championships that much sweeter.

And just for the record (for those who have doubts), Romo AND JuJo AND TO are all going to the Pro Bowl this year, after leading us to the SB Title. And if they add a roster spot for 3rd down/goal line back, MB3 may go too!

Currently, I've become a big Desparado's fan to curb my football urges, unitl TC and fantasy football are in full swing.
