Seahawks sign Julius Jones
Julius Jones likes the Seattle Seahawks. He had the best night of his young pro career in Seattle four years ago. Now he's signing with the team he helped torch.
Jones has just signed with the Seattle Seahawks. It’s a four-year deal for about $3 million a year. This move says more about how the Seahawks feel about Shaun Alexander than anything else. This was a foregone conclusion on our end. We have only so much money under the cap. Just wasn't in the cards with the emergence of MB3.
Sometimes I wish I had a De Loerean, a flux capacitor and 1.21 gigawatts of power so I could go back in time. The 2004 Tuna Helper would’ve never seen this coming. The 2004 Tuna Helper knew Jones was the next. Next in line to Dorsett and Emmitt. Next in line for the Ring of Honor. Next in line to Curtis Martin as a great player who Billy P would transform into a Hall-of-Fame player. How could we ever let go of this?
Jones had vision and speed. He was a good guy. A solid NFL citizen. He came from a hardworking family. He got into a good school. Nothing was ever given to him. He worked hard and it paid off. He was the epitome of everything the new Cowboys stood for. Talented, young, smart and hungry. The anti-thug.
But the 2008 Tuna Helper saw this move coming. We all did. The 2008 Tuna Helper is a MB3 fanatic. While the 2004 Tuna Helper wondered why we had plays that didn’t involve Jones, the 2008 Tuna Helper wondered why Jones was in the game at all.
As rich as Jerry Jones is he can’t pay everybody. And he certainly was not going to pay someone who couldn’t even keep his job. Every girl looks good at 2 a.m. when you’re drunk and a little lonely. Free agency is the ultimate pick-up bar and you could do worse than Jones. He’s got three years of more than 800 yards. He’s got top-notch speed. He’s a team guy and he’s not afraid to put a linebacker on his rump for his quarterback.
Good luck and godspeed to Jones. Who would’ve known that those eight games in 2004 would be the highlight of his career in Dallas? The Thanksgiving Chicago game. The epic Monday Night Game against the Seahawks. How ironic is that? He’s going to the team he ran circles around that night.
Hat tip for Deke for posting the diary about the Jones signing here.

Tom Orsborn says we should draft Desean Jackson. Alright. I'll bite. I'm interested.
It's what I like to call a homer piece because it's basically a one-source story. He talks to Gil Brandt who thinks he's something special and his opinion dominates the article. Not a bad endorsement though. Brandt is definitely someone who knows what he's talking about. Oh yeah. He also talks to Jackson's coach. So let's just say both give him rave reviews.
Dallas needs a receiver that can stretch the field, and Jackson has that ability in abundance. In Indianapolis, he ran a blistering 4.35-second 40. But that's no surprise to those who watched Jackson electrify the Pac-10 the last three seasons.
"There are times when you see him catch a ball and split people and you just shake your head," Cal coach Jeff Tedford told USA Today last year. "He’s playing at a different speed than everybody else."
That was particularly evident when Jackson returned punts for the Golden Bears. He took back six for touchdowns, a school and Pac-10 record that's two shy of the NCAA mark of eight scores shared by Texas Tech's Wes Welker (2000-2003) and Oklahoma's Antonio Perkins (2001-2004).
Gil Brandt gushes over Jackson's speed while Orsborn lists his collegiate accomplishments. Key quote.
"As a punt returner, he's Hesteresque," Brandt says.
That's Hesteresque as in the Bears' Devin Hester, whose seven career punt returns for TDs in two seasons are six more than the Cowboys have had in the past six seasons.
As a sophomore, Jackson led the nation with 18.2 yards per punt return, earning him All-America honors and making him a YouTube favorite.
He's a burner. Just check here. He's kinda small at 6 feet. He's also a little light in the pants at 169 but I'll take him if he's available in the later rounds. Maybe the second or third. He'd be a great addition if we've already drafted Felix Jones and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie from the first round. Doubt it will happen but I'm game if it does. Jackson was a big-game guy at Cal. Being here on the West Coast I got to see some of his games. He's an electric returner and he seemed to have pretty decent hands.
Of course you could insert the name Teddy Ginn Jr. into this story last year and I would've said the same thing.

We would not have resigned JJ
if we were 40 mil under the cap. He just didn't show enough here to get a new deal. MB3 a 4th round pick was clearly the better RB over the past two seasons.
Speaking of WRs. I'm not touching any of them until the 2nd round. Jackson is a 2nd or 3rd round WR at best.

JJ underappreciated
I think Dallas would have made a play for JJ if the cap was not an issue. I for one am going to miss him. He is good a picking up the blitz, good at catching the ball out of the backfield and is a decent running back. Perhaps most importantly, he was a part of a 1-2 punch at running back that was very effective in 2007. Our running back situation would look a whole lot better right now if he was under contract at a modest salary. But it looks like both parties needed a fresh start.
Julius Jones' two biggest faults in the eyes of Dallas fans are (1) he isn't Steven Jackson and (2) he couldn't play up to level expected when he set the bar high in 2004. Fans of Seattle will not carry that baggage and I hope he plays well for them and has a productive career out west.

I'll have to disagree Louie
I think Jerry made up his mind long ago he wasn't resigning JJ. I think the cap had nothing to do with it because if they really wanted him they could've found a way. 3 mil a year is not a whole lot.

Can I just say again...
That the combination of Brandon, TunaHelper and Grizz has been a pleasure. Great read on JJ... you summoned memories most of shared about JJ's potential.
Keep up the great work guys.

Desean is special....
I'll take him if he's available in the later rounds. Maybe the second or third. He'd be a great addition if we've already drafted Felix Jones and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie from the first round. Doubt it will happen but I'm game if it does.
You can totally forget about this guy getting to the third round, highly doubtful he'll get out of the first round.
In fact, It's highly doubtful we'll even be in the DRC lottery. Felix Jones might even be gone by #22.
If Jackson is available at 22 or 28, I wouldn't hesitate to take him, regardless of size, this is a special player.

Felix Jones will be there at 22
and Jackson will be a late first round early second round pick.
I thought you didn't like any WRs in the first round??
Forget about CB in the first round because they will all be gone. Flowers and King are the best players behind that group and seem more likely for us.
Don't discount a veteran coming in at some point or Wade could just roll the dice on Nate Jones or Ball. It seems more and more likely we won't be drafting a first round CB unless we move up which seems unlikely.

I don't see Felix Jones being drafted before 22
I think we could easily get him at #28. I am starting to think DRC will be gone by #10 to the Saints especially if New England takes McKelvin. I wouldn't mind taking King at all, I like him and think we could get him if we traded down or maybe moved our pick up in the second. And I think Boyz says he wouldn't mind taking Jackson in the first not only because of his WR abilities but because of his return abilities, but I think we would be better off with someone else.

Here's why this is going to happen....
I guess I could beat it like a dead horse...but I'll throw a few scenario's at ya'll....
There is no doubt DMac goes top ten to somebody....lol..maybe even us with a trade to Atl,Oak,KC,NYJ,NE,Balt,Cincy....ALL...for one reason or the other would LOVE to move down and pick up 2 1st....or more...
Atlanta
Oakland
NYJ
Cincy
NO
Detroit
Chicago
Arizona
Houston
Tampa
ALL could be included as teams that possibly can use an upgrade in their running game...
Realistically with absolutely no trade scenarios' at all...I can see:
DMac going to Oakland or NYJ at the very latest.
Mendenhall is the perfect choice for Chicago
\
Arizona will pull the trigger on Jonathan Stewart
There is a very very good chance Houston will go either RB or CB....Houston signed Reeves, and Dunta Robinson is not expected back til mid season, and who knows how his health will be...I'd think they signed Reeves to be their 3rd CB. If they can get by, they'll look to for an influx of electricity in their backfield...Felix Jones would provide that.
Then there is Tampa...Who has been bringing in RB's left and right during FA...so it's quite obvious they are looking for a RB...they use a committee RB system, C. Williams knee is completely shot and I doubt he'll even be back, hence the dynamic playmaking abilities of Felix Jones I'm positive are being weighed upon in Buc's camp.....They have no return game...it's very well documented....who better to bring in than the best return man in college ??? Tampa will select Desean Jackson or Felix Jones right here...or..ig Mike Jenkins is here....consider him gone. !!!
My point being.,...don't think for a minute that Felix Jones is a lock to be at our pick #22.....Don't think DRC, McKelvin, or Jenkins will be there either...Don't think Kelly, Sweed, or Jackson will be there either......
I'd rather trade up and get ONE of those players instead of losing out on ALL of those players.

I see what you're saying
while its not a lock, I think odds are in our favor that we get one of those players. I would be ecstatic if we were able to get Kelly, Sweed, Jenkins, F.Jones, or Mendenhall. The boat has sailed on McKelvin and DRC though.

they'll cut 'em......
his contract is way too much for his degenerating skills....good luck trying to trade 'em.

And teams know that, so they'll give him da axe..
... without having to give up anything for him -- if they're at all interested.
You're dead on, Boyz.
