Eric Parker anyone?

Nothing to get excited about, but I saw that San Diego released Eric Parker the other day. In the event that the Terry Glenn issue ends in his release, do you guys think Eric Parker makes any sense.

He oughta be cheap and he is an experienced speed guy at least somewhat similar to Glenn. Even though it seems like he's been around forever, he's 29 so it's not like one of those desperate Joe Horn type of moves.

I would still much rather trade for a top level dude if thats still possible, even if it costs us a #1 next year. But I do think Parker would make sense if Glenn is released.

Is Crayton that bad?

As im sure a lot of you did, I went a little sour on Patrick Crayton after those miscues in the playoff game. Yes, he came up short in a big spot, and yes his mouth is sometimes a bit big for his britches. But is he really that inadequate as a #2?

A lot of people would point to the numbers of second options like Anquan Boldin or T.J. Houshmandzadeh in comparison to Crayton. Granted Crayton is not in the class of these two, but would their numbers not decrease if they had to share receptions with an impact tight end? Jason Witten caught 96 balls last season. If we had some run of the mill tight end catching 35 balls, maybe Crayton squeezes out 20 more catches. Then he's in that 70 catch, 850-900 yard territory.

It wasnt that long ago that we were all praising his hands and his route running. And when he re-signed we were all relieved. I think we've been a little unfair because of that final image we have of him.

He's not Boldin or Housh, but he's good enough. Maybe he takes another step forward this season as he has in each of his previous years and suprises us. And let's keep in mind, he's our #2 wideout, but he still only has to be the third option.

Romo Gone Wild?

First of all let me apologize for breaking this weeks obvious and warranted obsession with the NFL Draft, but something has come to my attention that may be of interest to all of you as well.

Your Number 1's.

Promoted from the diaries by Grizz. Funny, but I had it on my mind to do a similar post with the same subject as GloryDayz88's diary. Then I saw his and thought what the heck, let's just use his. So jump into the comments and let's blowout this thread. End intro.

Okay, I think the majority of us agree that in no particular order, CB, WR, and RB are going to be the Cowboys most pressing needs come draft day. Assuming the Cowboys sit still and dont trade up, who do you think is the best player (as he fits the Cowboys) at each position. I'm talking about guys who could realistically be there at #22.

I'm not asking for a novel. If you dont want to explain yourself you dont have to. Just list your top three.

I'll go first to give you an example.

Cornerback. I think Cromartie is the #1 corner alltogehter no matter who I am a fan of. His size speed combo are amazing and he wants to go steal the football. He could be a game changer.

Wide Receiver. Though I dont think he is the best receiver in the draft, I like DeSean Jackson the best for the Cowboys. He can stretch the field, has great hands, and can finally bring some excitement to the return game.

Running Back. Lets remember who Marion Barber's agent is. His asking price to re-sign may be outrageous. Instead of taking this "speed back" everyone is obsessed with, let's get another feature back type who could carry the load in '09 if necessary. I think Jonathan Stewart is the best back in the draft period. Screw the combine he is the best on tape. He's 235 pounds and he's 1/100th of a second slower than Felix Jones who everybody likes so much. His injury could cause him to slide to us at 22. As long as that checks out, we should abort all other plans with that pick. And if we are able to keep Barber, who care's about this "thunder and lightning" concept, can you think of a more violent backfield?

Dunn In Dallas?

With news of RB Michael Turner's signing in Atlanta, the release of veteran RB Warrick Dunn seems a forgone conclusion. Could Dallas be a possible landing spot. With the draft looming, many Cowboy fans have visions of a 1st round running back dancing in their heads, but hear this one out.

Warrick Dunn is still extremely quick and elusive though his top end, breakaway speed may have diminished a bit. He is still and excellent reciever and despite his size is one of the leagues best at blitz pick-up. Dunn simply does not fumble and is the ultimate locker room presence (Thats why we signed an over the hill Zach Thomas right?). His unique skill set seems to make him an ideal contrast to Marion Barber's wreckless punishing style.

At this phase of his career, Dunn would likely come at a cap friendly price. With Dunn in the fold the Cowboys would ease the pressure to select a running back so early in the draft. Signing Dunn would also provide a buffer to keep any rookie back from being thrust into too big of a role should he not be ready. You know a veteran like Dunn could eat a playbook in about a day, and should be ready to jump right in from the word go.

In short, I am advocating the signing of Warrick Dunn.

Opinions?
