Sharper's Situation Coming into Focus

ESPN is reporting that the Packers will release FS Darren Sharper in the next few days, to avoid paying him a large roster bonus. The former Pro Bowler could move to the top of the Cowboys' wish list. Dallas is looking for a free safety, but team officials remarked that they will wait several days for the red-hot market to cool before shopping again. The Cowboys did their part to heat it, signing three free agents this week to $28 million in guaranteed bonuses.

Sharper played much of the 2004 season with a sprained PCL in his left knee. He is 29 and should have some good years left. Dallas still has $5 to 7 million in cap space and could afford to make Sharper its next addition -- provided his knee checks out.
