The New York Jets released a group of veterans today, officially opening the cap-casualty season. Given Parcells history with the Jets and some of these players, and his penchant for bringing back "his guys", I see two potential players that may interest the Tuna.
T Jason Fabini - Fabini was drafted by the Jets in 1998, right in the middle of Parcells tenure, and has started for them ever since. He tore a pectoral muscle last year which put him on IR. Fabini is 31 years old so he's starting the downside of his career, but 31 is not that old for a lineman the way it might be for a running back or receiver. I'm just speculating here, but if Parcells drafted him and still likes him, he may be our first free agent signee.
FB Jerald Sowell - Sowell is 30 years old and came to the Jets after being cut by the Packers as a rookie in 1997, once again, during Parcells tenure in New York. We haven't talked about it much but FB is definitely a position that could use an upgrade. Sowell is also adept at catching the ball out of the backfield and is an outstanding special teams player. Sounds like a Parcells kind of guy.
