Dallas Cowboys free agent rumors

New, comments

Rumors and more rumors, they're the lifeblood of the NFL offseason. So let's get to it, here are some of the Cowboy rumors floating around.

From the Boston Globe:

Although the Patriots reportedly remain hopeful of signing [Willie] McGinest, league sources said last night that the Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, and several other teams intend to explore signing McGinest, who last year became the all-time postseason sack leader (16), passing Hall of Famer Reggie White (12) and Bruce Smith (14 1/2).

From The Insiders on ESPN (sub. required):

Dallas, Philadelphia and Washington are also believed to be interested in [Antwaan] Randle El, an unrestricted free agent who is highly regarded because of his versatility.

How about this one posted on the CowboysZone forum, attributed to a guy called Playmaker who writes for kffl.com:

OK, here is the short list of players that have been requested to come in for a visit. A couple of them will obviously have to wait to be released before they can schedule.
  1. Adam Vinateari - Although the Patriots have increased their offer, he is still wanting to see what is out there for him.
  2. LeCharles Bentley - Word is that he has scheduled 2 stops before us. Jacksonville and Philly
  3. Antwan Randle El - He also has 2 stops before coming in, Philly and Washington
  4. Jason Fabini - I have learned that he is in Dallas taking physicals right now
  5. Ryan Longwell - He is a first stop for us, trying to schedule Saturday 3/11
  6. Willie McGinest - He was released late last night and is going to be pursued by several others.
  7. Chris Hope - He is almost assuredly to return to Pittsburgh, but will make the rounds.
* I have also learned that if and when T.O gets released, his first stop will be to Dallas and expect us to push hard to sign him before he leaves.

I have no idea how reliable this guy is, but the list makes a lot of sense to me (except for the T.O. comment!). He says these are only "scheduling requests" and that nothing has been confirmed yet.

Final bonus rumor: Paul Tagliabue may be ready to step down. ESPN has the article here.
