The Venetian Hotel in Vegas is already taking bets on over/under win totals for the 2006 NFL season. That's pretty early in the year, the draft hasn't even happened yet. But for those who just can't wait, lay your money down. Here are the over/under win lines for the NFC East and the Dallas Cowboys lead the way.
The much-improving NFC East is the only division where all four teams have an over/under of at least eight victories. The Dallas Cowboys lead the way at 9 ½. The New York Giants are at 9, followed by the Washington Redskins 8 ½ and Philadelphia Eagles at 8.
That sounds about right for the Cowboys, I predicted a 10-6 season a couple of weeks ago, so I'm laying down the cash on the over - if I was actually betting.
The New York Times has an article detailing the obsessive nature of NFL fans, especially us nuts who are waiting for the NFL draft like an 8-year old waits for Christmas.
The audience (each ratings point equals 1.1 million households) is 79 percent male, and seemingly about 97 percent obsessed. Normal life grinds to a halt each year during draft weekend. Travel plans are delayed, social obligations are put off and wives and girlfriends are tuned out.
Hmm, that sounds awfully familiar. Guilty as charged.
