Over at The Sporting News, JJT has some new Cowboys material ready.
JJT on Jason Hatcher:
The coaching staff loves the potential of rookie DE Jason Hatcher, a third-round pick from Grambling State. Coaches like his ability to rush the passer, though they have asked him to focus on trying to create a pet move first before he adds others to his repertoire. Dallas needs to develop another pass-rushing defensive end because DE Greg Ellis, the best pass rusher on the roster, has made it known he doesn't want to be part of the club's 3-4 scheme in the long-term. Hatcher (6-6, 283) struggles some against the run because he must stay low to maintain leverage. When he gets too high out of his stance, he becomes a lot easier to move. . . .
JJT on Marcus Coleman:
FS Marcus Coleman is the perfect ballhawk for what the Cowboys want. The question is whether he can solve his off-the-field issues. Coleman has good instincts and excellent range -- a holdover from his days at cornerback -- and Dallas hopes he can use those skills to create more turnovers at free safety than S Keith Davis did last year with one forced fumble. Coleman's speed is average, but he makes up for it with positioning and good recovery speed. He will compete with Davis for the starting job, but should make a good addition to the nickel and dime coverages if he doesn't start.
