Detectives said they are trying to determine where Davis was prior to the shooting, including whether he was in Louisiana at all, or at a Dallas party hosted by NFL players, including some of his Cowboys teammates.
With no witnesses to a predawn shooting, police said Davis' passenger might be the key witness in this case, but said the woman has already canceled several meetings.
Detectives are also looking into an altercation at a block party Davis hosted a couple of weeks ago in his hometown of Italy, Texas.
Police there said Davis played the role of peacekeeper, but local investigators said that doesn't mean someone did not have a gripe against him.
