Cowboys could clinch NFC East this weekend

Check it out, with a win on Thursday and a loss by the Giants we could clinch the East championship.

The Cowboys can win the division as early as next Sunday if they beat Green Bay and the Giants lose to Chicago, putting them a full four games behind the Cowboys with four to play. The Cowboys already own the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Giants by sweeping the season series.

A lot was made of the Cowboys starting the first play of last week with Roy on the bench in a modified nickel. Wade said that it wasn’t a big deal and that Roy played the rest of the game and it had nothing to do with Roy’s abilities in pass defense.

"Roy does a lot of things well and he does a lot of things in pass defense well."

"I still say we've had a lot of passes thrown against us, we're not giving up big plays and we're going to keep doing that. And Roy's a big part of that."

I know that some people had a meltdown over Roy giving up TD’s to Shockey and Cooley over the recent weeks, but I’m not in that group. I don’t know a safety in the league that hasn’t given up TD’s to those two TE’s, they are that good. I’m more concerned about Roy playing smart and making sure-tackles, and that he has done. I’m OK with Roy even though I know he’ll get beat in coverage more than I’d like.

Jacques Reeves is doing all right at corner and has gotten noticeably better as the season has rolled on.

Reeves has 54 tackles, which leads Cowboys cornerbacks, and is tied for the team lead with 12 passes defended. He also has one interception.

All those tackles mean he’s probably getting a lot of pass completed on him but at least he’s making the tackle and he’s not getting beat deep often. 12 passes defended means they are definitely trying to pick on him.

Tony Romo admits that his hurt pinkie was the cause of some errant throws against the Jets. But he says it’s not bothering him now.

Romo worked through a full practice Sunday, but he conceded that the jammed right pinkie finger he suffered on Thanksgiving vs. the Jets bothered him.

"It was difficult to grip the football and pull down as hard as you want consistently," Romo said "It's something you have to go though. I tried to manage the game well. It will be fine."

He definitely floated a few in the Jets game and in the second half was throwing more underneath routes and leaving the long stuff for another day. I'm just glad he's OK because we can't afford any mistakes this week in the big showdown.
