Wade: Injury-wise Terence Newman practiced, he looks like he’ll play, Terry Glenn did the same things as yesterday, he probably won’t play. Colombo practiced and did pretty well.
Will Newman start?
Possibility he’ll start, Anthony Henry looked better today, too.
Tony Romo?
Has had an outstanding season, and we expect him to continue. He’s constantly learning, he wants to do well and works at it. All the hard work is paying off, he does have some intangibles that other players don’t have, and our staff is utilizing his abilities. We are lucky to get Jason Garrett here. Jerry had one day to get him and he did, Wade Wilson was under contract in Chicago and we got him, Ray Sherman was under contract in Tennessee and we got him. All of that together has helped Tony.
Did you know he was on the cover of People magazine?
My wife probably has a copy. (But he’s been handling his success well?) Throughout the season he has, early in the season they said the contract might bother him or getting the money would bother him, then dating whoever he’s dating. (Who is he dating?) Go read People magazine. (laughter)
Do you think the Eagles will take a page out of Detroit’s book and try to run the ball on you?
The Eagles will take a page out of their own book, Westbrook had 140 yards rushing last week. They’ll utilize him in a lot of ways, they’ll run and he’ll carry the load.
Can you talk about the evolving TE in your time coaching?
Seemed like we had them, then all of them went to the NBA, a lot of the bigger athletes that size we didn’t have, now we’re getting them back. It’s tough to play, you’re a lineman and a receiver. Just don’t see that athlete very often. (Witten remind you of anybody?) Dave Casper was good blocker and a receiver, Jason is in that mode too. Jason is having a tremendous year. (Did you know about him before you got here?) I knew about him, we played Dallas before, I knew about him in college, but didn’t know he would have been this good. If anybody did they would have drafted him in the first round instead of the third. Once you see him play you know he’s good, once you’re around you know he’ll get better and better. He has the work ethic and attitude.
Are the Eagles still blitzing as much?
They’re in the top 10 in defense, they’ll run what they run. Jim Johnson does a great job, they have a good blitz scheme and coverage scheme, and are strong up front. They’ve had very few injuries this year on defense, we expect them to be strong, if they can’t get heat form the regular rush then they’ll bring them. (Do you have to make them pay then?) We’ve done that well, teams that rush us we’ve made them pay for it, then they back off and we can execute against that. Number one is to protect the QB and number two is to be able to throw effectively against the blitz.
Trent Cole?
Quick, fast, natural skills, he can get around the corner. With the tackle being able to sit back so far now, he’s quick off the ball, and you have to be with tackles set so far back and he’s one that can get back there. (Chip him, double-team him?) We will do whatever it takes.
